- This brief talk represents my first response to this event. There is more to come, Insha Allah, since I will now devote myself to writing a book on the subject. In the meantime our viewers, particularly Christian viewers, should read my book entitled CONSTANTINOPLE IN THE QURAN which is on my website www.imranhosein.org.

I am catholic Christian and listen to Sheik Imram every day. My husband is Muslim. I see here reading at all the comments that the Muslims don’t understand his message. Mostly of you are criticizing him and crying about what Christians did wrong to Muslims in Spain, in Serbia and everywhere. You are complaining and trying to justify the take of Aghia Sophia because before it was done wrong to the Muslim. I see nobody understands Sheikh message, he is teaching us all not to follow the wrong path, because others did wrong you shouldn’t do it. HE IS VERY CLEAR AT THE BEGINNING OF THE VIDEO, “ FOLLOW WHAT IT SAYS IN THE KORAN”

According to Sharia , it is permissible to convert the Cathedral to Mosque after conquered a land. It is not sinful and you are wrong. Allah knows the best.

@@altumurnemtzra2026 When Prophet Muhammad Took over Mecca did he not destroy the idols in the kaaba and turned it into a muslim place of worship. It was a conquest. When a conquest happens a ruler has the power to do what ever he desires with the place of worship. But in situations where there was no fight and the other side invited the muslims and had an agreement of giving up the city without a fight, then their places of worships are protected by the muslims.

The Cordoba Masjid was the Basilica of Saint Vincent of Lérins. The Moors converted the church into a mosque, the Cordoba Masjid.

I like Sheikh Imran Hosein but I don't agree with him on this. Firstly it is prophesized that the Muslims would conquer Constantinople and the first army to do that their sins would be forgiven and that's why when Muawiyah (RA) saw this hadith he ordered for the invasion of Constantinople and many of the Sahabas were in the early conquest but we know the Muslims didn't win the war. We do have the graves or some Sahaba till today near Constantinople of today.
Secondly, when a Muslim army wants to invade land they would give 2 choices. Firstly you surrender and pay tax to the state (Jizya) and in exchange, you will be given protection and your religious sites would be given protection and the second choice is we go to war in this case if a Muslim ruler wants he can convert a church into a mosque. If the land belongs to the Muslims then the Muslims can do anything they like. And we see evidence that when the Prophet Mohammad (SAW) invaded Mecca one of the thing he did was to destroy the idols in Kaaba and convert the Kaaba from pagan temple into a mosque (Masjid Al Haram)
On top of that, the Khalifa of the Ottomon empire bought the church and then converted it into a mosque. So this is 100% allowed in Islam. And we know that Non-Muslims did the same. When they invaded Muslim Spain they converted our mosques into churches and the same as the crusaders.

Sultan Mehmet bought the Hagia Sophia after its conquest of Constantinople. Only after he purchased it was it converted to a Muslim Mosque. And that to a common sense and anyone having the capability of reaching a logical conclusion understands that once the Haghia Sophia is bought it can be converted into a Muslim Mosque or whatever. Whats the problem you see there with it?

Why is it sinful Sheikh Imran? What about the hadeeth of our prophet when prophesized the conquest of Constantinople? If the Ottomans were wrong then Allah wouldn't let that empire, rule for such a long time. I dont know about my brain but i know that Ottoman empire was more knowledgeable than you & your Sheikh. If city surrenders without fight then it is NOT permissible. Ottomans followed Sahabeh. Nothing wrong with this according to them.This was during Khilafah of Omar Bin Hattab. Fatih Mehmed Sultan used to show respect to Omar Bin Hattab but some people say if Omar bin Hattab did it is wrong. Some Shia people have different opinions. We Turkish and Kurdish people are proud with our history. We are proud of our president Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his decisions. We are proud of Fatih Sultan Mehmet. Do not forget Phophete Muhammad s.a.v when he went to Mecca to conquer the city, he went to change the kabaa as a mosque.

The prophet brought down the idols and converted the Kaaba because the Kaaba was originally built by Ibrahim and Ishmael. And Christian are not pagan. They are believers just like muslims and jews.

When Sultan Mahmet II Fatih conquered Constantinople, he became owner of everything including people. This is what what Crusaders did to entire Spain including Masjid Cordoba. He is not crying for those. How far you can go in history? At least it was internal decision of Turkey to revive their own museum whatever the way they want. In fact, they restore the masjid after 80 years.

When you say conquered, a war took place. Hagia Sophia is part of the spoils of war. If there was a treaty it would have been wrong.
There was a treaty going back from the reign of Mehmed's father, but Mehmed eventually tore it up and demanded surrender of the whole city to ottoman forces. There was never a threat to the Ottomans coming from the city, Mehmed simply wanted it for the sake of his own glory.

Thoughts on the Hagia Sofia Issue - Yasir Qadhi
The Prophet said "Islam transcends all else, and nothing shall prevail over it" ~ reported by al-Bayhaqī and al-Albānī considered it authentic.
The meaning of this hadith, which has been used in many chapters of fiqh, is that Muslims view their faith as being Divinely favored and blessed. Not all faiths are equal, and even if other faiths are allowed to practice and preserve their identity under Islamic law, that does not mean they are all the same. It is because of this that the Shariah has many specific rulings for religious minorities living under Islamic law. While there is a lot of discussion regarding the specifics, not a single school of law gave such populations the exact same rights and privileges as those given in the Shariah to believers.
For some Muslims living in the West, these laws sometimes form a source of embarrassment - how can we demand our rights when the Shariah doesn't seem to give those same rights to others? Worse still, some Muslims believe that these laws should be permanently rescinded as they are not conducive to the spirit of Islam (a 'spirit' that is surprisingly modern in its notions of liberalism and religious freedom).
The reactions of some people to the announcement of returning the Haga Sophia to a masjid is demonstrative of this mindset. Some people felt embarrassed or awkward; many prominent individuals denounced the ruling as against the teachings of Islam.
Much has been said in the last week, and there's no need to rehash it here. Just some thoughts:
- The historical arguments for returning this structure into the masjid that the Ottomans used for five centuries is valid. Sultan Muḥammad al-Fātiḥ (d. 1481), as the conqueror of the city, under both Islamic law and the norms of the time, had the right to convert it into a masjid. Reports that he purchased the land are contested (and realistically such a purchase would no doubt be under great duress - who would sell such an iconic structure willingly?); there is no need for us to go down this avenue. When the Reconquista expelled the Muslims from Andalusia, they converted thousands of masjids into churches (including the Grand Mosque of Cordoba - one of the largest and most magnificent masjids in the world). Those were different times, and such was the norm. Classical Islamic law, and the laws of world at the time, would allow the change to a masjid.
- Even if, historically, there were some grey areas, today Turkey is an independent state, and times have changed. Six hundred years is not a small amount of time! When less than 0.1 % of its population is Orthodox, and the circumstances have changed drastically from the 14th Century, Turkey is within its modern legal rights to do what is beneficial for its citizens.
- The claims that this ruling is for political purposes and in order to foster up support for the president or a political party should have nothing to do with the reality of this being a sign of the changing times. How can anyone with an ounce of genuine īmān not be elated - how can our hearts not flutter with joy - when we hear the adhān being called and people praying in a structure that was abandoned for almost a century because of the anti-Islamic policies of Kemal Atatürk, an open enemy of the faith? If someone is using this for a political agenda, that is between them and Allah; we need to look at the overall picture, and not worry about individual intentions.
- To equate this ruling with the Babri Masjid ruling in India is a gross distortion of reality. Firstly this isn't a destruction of anything; the property still stands as is! Secondly the demographics of India (with 15 % Muslim population that is being persecuted) cannot in any way be equated when 99 % of Turkey is Muslim.
- The claims that this is a World Heritage Site, or a historical icon, are valid. But what has that got to do with allowing people to pray in it? The structure is still there - no one is destroying it! And it will still be open to the public and to tourists and visitors. Nothing will change for a visitor except that one section will be marked off for prayers.
- Lastly, the 'awkwardness' for Muslims living in the West needs to be resolved frankly. Let's stop beating about the bush here. We are living in secular lands that have a different relationship with and understanding of religious freedoms. We appreciate the freedoms given to us here: we respect the laws of our lands and demand the rights that our constitutions give us. What a Muslim-majority land does, based on a different understanding of politics and religion, should have nothing to do with us demanding our rights under the laws of our lands. Such rulings in Muslim-majority lands simply cannot and should not be used as a tool against us. Since when did the American Constitution only apply on its citizens in relation to how other constitutions and governments act? We need to stop pretending that all lands in the world have the same philosophies. We are asking America to live up to its own standards, and we state clearly and unabashedly that Muslim-majority lands should live up to their standards, based on the Quran and Sunnah.
And that means, as the hadith says, that Islam shall transcend and prevail.
I have visited this iconic structure many times, and I now eagerly look forward to praying there during my next visit inshaAllah.

Most say the original site was a small cathedral back in the 700s until Islam came there. I cant remember much. Its was left to those people, then converted to masjid, then shared by muslims and Christans. Then the Inquisition.....

During Russian occupation, Armenians and Russians with the aim of exterminating the Muslims living in the chief town of the subprefectures of Siirt and the sub-prefectures of Barzan, Sason and Kulp; in the plains of Muş, Malazgird, Bulanik, Hınıs, Pasinler, Eleşkird; in the mountains of Tifnik, Karaköy and Talori in the whole districts, villages and quarters of Van, Bitlis, Genç, Andak and Maçka, set about looting and massacring, setting fire to villages, cramming people in to haystrores and burning them alive; cutting off arms and legs of some children and men and then throwing them into the flames, violating girls and women, killing by knocking down with their rifles’ butts ailed sick people, trampling on living persons with their horses and putting them to swords, throwing on immigrants people shrapnels and letting them explode, seizing goods and chattels from their properties and after beating to death those refusing to give up their goods, sending them to jail and according to investigations made by officials hearing those who had escaped, mosques were converted into churches.

Many women were skinned and then hanged on trees; men still living had their eyes torn up and then fastened to trees and used as shooting targets; small children cut in to pieces; women and girls violated and all killed to the last living one; heads severed, breasts cut and half lacerated small children handed over to their mothers. All the villages of the township of Uçum including the birth place of Bediduzzaman Saidi Kurdî were summoned to surrender, the convent of Dervishes in Hani and Gayda where disabled women, children and women, old people were crammed into was set on fire and burnt with their dwellers; the goverment building of Karasu was also burnt down; atrocities committed by Armenians surpass by far those committed by the Kurds and which were an object of recriminations on the part of the Armenians; all goods and chattels of the villages raided by the Armenians were seized and taken away; dismembered and disfigured human corpses were scattered here and there and the village presents the aspect of a charnel house. 14 N. 1334 (15. And this List of happenings can be continued to the point where it may now seem not so unreasonable for the Semi-Ottoman (CUP Government) to have given the order on 29.April 1915 to Deport these Rebells and all of their Supporters from Ottoman Territory and also fight the Seperatists who were activly involved in War.

Sultan Muhammad II (Muhammad al-Fatih) had bought the Hagia Sophia building from the Patriarch when he conquered Constantinople in 1453 and then converted it into a mosque. he BOUGHT it from the Patriarch!! He Paid the Patriarch for it, then transferred it to a mosque affiliated with the Sultan's Charitable Foundation, There are proofs from Christian Historians at that time recording this transaction, But many Mosques in Europe were converted to Churches forcefully! and no Secular People Uttered a single word against it.
