  • A Better Way To Install Heavy duty Wire Storage Racks
I’ve been using this method to install wire storage shelves for about five years now and have found it to be strong, versatile, and forgiving. The wire shelves may need to be notched for the occasional obstacle such as an electrical conduit. Even with portions of the shelves cut out I have found the installations to be up to the task they were designed for. This method can be used in any location that has vertical studs. It's great for but not limited to storage sheds, garages, and closets.

Awesome job! I have a few of those metal shelf units and now I just have to put some plywood on my walls. The added bonus of the tool storage is brilliant!
    Thanks,

Lol I just put one of those shelves together last week and I cussed through it. They can be so frustrating to put together.

Great use of the shelving materials. I've found that at restaurants when the plastic wheels break will often discard the units which provides free shelves. which make awesome grills. Thank you for the video

You convinced me. I'll try it! Just to purty it up, I'd love to make the side panels from thick acrylic glass and put some LED glow through it. The brilliant part about your design is the way that the side panels force everything to stay square, so leverage won't work the mount screws out. A dozen (tight) screws can handle a surprising amount of shear force.

Yes, this arrangement is surprisingly strong. Although I haven't done any objective tests like loading it with weights until failure. I did hang from the first set of shelves I installed (I'm about 250 lbs) and it seemed to do just fine.

Just came across your video...Nice idea...I wouldn’t think that would hold over a long period of time. Any hacks for wire closet shelves. Have way more of those than this type.

I don't know any tricks for closet wire shelves. As for the system from the video, I've been using it for several years to hold hundreds of pounds of hardwood with no trouble.
