    I like your videos because they are great for beginners. You take things step by step not expecting people to know what you are talking about. That is great, THANKS!

    I am happy you were able to grow gourds. Pots work great. We grow a lot here in Arizona in the plastic tubs. I really like the oil paint stick. My other favorite way to color them is Alcohol Inks. They are so easy and you cannot screw them up. I have a video on that. I have several videos on color methods. You can color a gourd with just about anything. Cool Aid, Food colors, shoe polish and leather dye, hair dye to name a few. Happy coloring.

    Hi Tommy,
    Thank you for the question and I forgot to address that. It will dry but as with dyes or coloring on gourds I would always varnish it to protect it. I like to use a brush on varnish on the oil paint sticks. Varnishing it always brings out the color as well.

    What great use for oil paint sticks. I used to use these to stencil with by brushing the end of the stencil brush on the tip of stick to pickup color. They are great because they do not bleed under stencils! I like the set of 16 you use! Great job and s easy to understand!

    This is my first year growing gourds. I have 2 plants. So far I have 8 gourds in the drying process, 4 have already dried, and about a dozen still on the vine. All bottle gourds. I am very happy with the results. I never thought they would grow so well especially since I have them in 3 gallon pots! I'm watching this video as my first lesson in how to color them. I really like the iridescent metallic looking finish. So you'll probably see my name in the comments of your other videos.

    Miriam, these are just gorgeous. I believe you stated you use the MinWax Polycrylic after 24 hours. On the 2 examples you have displayed did you use the clear matte, semi-gloss, satin, or gloss?

    • @Miriamjoy123
      @Miriamjoy123  3 роки тому

      Thanks for the question Amy. I used Satin. I think it fits the oil paint sticks. Matt is to low and gloss is too much. God bless, Miriam

    Hi Miriamjoy, I have a question. I need to paint a gourd that looks to have some sort of coating on it. I want to know can I sand off the coating in order to use the oil paint sticks? Will it still look as good?

    • @Miriamjoy123
      @Miriamjoy123  2 роки тому

      You will need to sand the gourd very well to remove all the paint. Then it would be just the same as new.

    Do the colors set up and dry? Can the gourd be handled later without smudging? Or would you suggest sealing it with a spray?

    Hello Miriam. How long would you wait to varnish over Oil Paint stick. I love the effect I got with this. It's been a day and it seems sorta dry, but still kinda oily or buttery and would you also use Polycrylic on this too? Thanks again for the videos, so helpful.

    • @DioneCampbell
      @DioneCampbell 10 років тому

      I hear in your video that you say wait 24 hours.

    • @Miriamjoy123
      @Miriamjoy123  10 років тому

      They normally dry in 24 hours. It may take a little longer depending on your weather if it is cold or humid. If you can keep your fingers prints out of it, I have cheated and varnished it while it is still wet and that will dry it. I use the Polyacrylic on this but use what varnish you are comfortable with. You just want a nice coating. Do a couple of coats. Thank you for the question. Please let me know if you have more. God bless, Miriam joy

    • @DioneCampbell
      @DioneCampbell 10 років тому

      Miriamjoy123 Thanks, that helps a bunch. I actually went ahead and added another coat of oil paint stick so I think will go ahead and varnish before something happens to it. The brown is such a gorgeous shade and the 2nd coat really gave it depth. I'm doing an earthy type vase I made from the top half of a bottle gourd and made the top higher on one side so the decoration on the inside could show I used some metallic paint mixed with alcohol on the inside to help bronzes, coppers, yellow ochre and a green swirl and mix and run to kinda look like an inside of a cave or the ground; the way the color took to the more porous, spongy inside really has a ground, earth like looking effect, really cool. I've never inlayed a stone so I watched your video and am anxious to try that with the dremel I do not have much experience with either. I'm using a bright green natural bead and I will inlay so I can still run copper wire through and also wrap the copper up and end it inside with some more beads. I hope it works with no major mess ups. Thanks so much for your help. I am really loving working with gourds.

    Looks wonderful, I love the simplicity of the technique, wish the cameraman showed what you were doing better, most views should have been from the side or from above, missed the actual blending instead of seeing what it looked like after when you quicked turned the finished section towards the camera

    • @Miriamjoy123

      Use an oil base varnish. It can be brush on or spray varnish. Min wax has a new one out that is water based but considered an oil varnish.
