  • The motor on my old, bench top drill press was overheating and kicking off after less than a minute of use.
I found a replacement through mail order and show how I rigged it up.

Great video brother! How many horsepower was the new one compared to the old one?

Thanks for reaching out. The new motor is 1/3 hp, which I believe was the size of the old one. I can over load it with something like a 4" hole saw, but usually the belt slips and I back off. It's worked without a hitch since I installed it and I don't even think about it any more. Thanks again.

Thanks. The motor works great, as you'd expect. One of these days I'll change the bearings in the drill press.

Thanks for the reply. I can't help with that, but you can see it's not brain surgery, although you may have to get creative with your particular set up. Good luck and thanks for the post.

Thanks for the comment. I'm not very knowledgeable of motors and I'm not sure if such an issue is repairable. Either way it was a couple years back and that motor is long gone. I did do some research before I purchased a new one and couldn't find any better options. Maybe these days there is more information out there. The new motor has worked fine (as you'd expect). Thanks again.
