- Hey everyone! Josh here with another VEGAS Pro 17 tutorial for ya! This time I'll be explaining VEGAS Pro 17's new Super Smooth Slow Motion effect! This is a new addition to VEGAS and it basically does the same thing as Twixtor. It can turn footage that isn't meant to be played in slow motion into slow motion footage! It's pretty awesome so let's jump into the details of how it works!

How do u like the new Vegas?, I've been using it since vegas 9 and stopped at 14.
i still use vegas 14, but not a single time have i used it without my colleagues shitting on me for not using premiere instead.
I feel more comfortable using vegas.. but I gotta use Premiere to look more professional sadly.
is it about time we call Vegas' as good as Premiere?.
Also if you've used Vegas effects, how good is it?. is it anywhere near After Effects?

I appreciate the kind words. Honestly I feel as a stand alone comparison, VEGAS 17 and VEGAS Effects are extremely close to the same quality as Premiere and AE. There's only a handful of proprietary things Premiere and AE can do that VEGAS can't and vice versa. But if you've used VEGAS in the past, then the consensus is that it's easier to use and I agree.
There was a point in time a long time ago where I stopped giving a shit what others thought of me and just did my own thing. I instantly became happier and less stressed. If I can produce the same quality video in VEGAS as someone can do in AVID, Resolve, or Premiere, there it shouldn't matter which editor I use. It's all about skill at that point. You just do what makes you happy because life it to short to limit your creativity to please everyone except yourself.
Also VEGAS Effects is almost an exact copy of HitFilm so it's pretty nice and powerful. I'm enjoying it. I believe you can make a complete feature film using VEGAS POST.

how does this work with stop motion animation? specifically with footage that is comprised of single frame clips?

There is hardly any difference, not your eye problem. Velocity method and Optical method look the same. Looks like slow motion plugin is just adding more blur to the footage.

@@mgr5550 Agreed. Every example looked like he was spinning TWO noodles because of the blur. When Vegas was marketing this, they gave the impression that the slow motion would look as good as if it was shot @120fps.
But kudos to the guy for trying out all the options.

Optical looks the best to me, but honestly, Velocity would be fine for what I do. It's hard to tell the difference. Maybe it's UA-cam compression. But once I get VP17 (still using VP16), I'll experiment a little. Thanks for giving the explanations and basics for doing this.
What camera are you using?
No problem! And I'm currently using a Lumix G7 with a Panasonic 25mm f1.7 lense. Eventually I'll be getting a GH5 or GH5S

Hi Josh, just have to say that the best part of this video is seeing the head of your wang pop out against your shorts as you swing around the pool noodle to that goofy music. Don't take it the wrong way. Just sayin' it's a good thing and everyone here noticed it.
I don't see a drastic difference with the smoothness. It may be a little more smooth but at what cost? The electricity poles were glitchy and chances are the footage you will want to do this to will have even more distractions that glitch even harder. If it's the perfect well separated footage then maybe. But really I think it's best to just do with what you have. AI just isn't there and gets confused pretty easily. Thanks for the video though, I wasn't aware Vegas even had optical flow.
You're right there are definitely some imperfections and the difference is subtle. There's a time and place to use it. Check out my GoPro tutorial and you'll see VEGAS slow motion work perfectly for that scenario.

Another awesome video of tips... I found one thing about Vegas 17 pro recently... if I had a lot of animations and effects there comes a point where some brought in video can get compressed looking even if the video length is not long. It did this with my G85 footage brought into my Olympus footage... Even on my AEJuice video near the later sections suddenly one random scene where I am recording my computer screen is grainy looking for no reason apparent to me... My 100 subs special I have now slit into 4 parts rendering sections separately because out of that single file I was editing in if put into a new project it suddenly is showing up just fine.
It just makes more lagg and without this its smooth wtf

I don't understand about the Projects settings. Do I have to change this every time for each different clip I want to slow mo at different percentages in a project? Also mine crashes on trying to preview after 'adjust length to slo mo plugin or when trying to render it.

Why arent you rendering and uploading at a 1440p or 4K resolution(regardless of source resolution) to take advantage of the higher bitrate youtube provides with higher resolutions?
I render my UA-cam videos in whichever resolution the main video is. Since these are usually recorded with OBS on my screen which is 1080p, I render in 1080p 60fps. It wouldn't make sense to upscale it to 4k because there would be no change in resolution. The file size would be 40% bigger for no reason. Now I record my face with my 4k DSLR for the highest quality shot but again render it in 1080p because majority of the video is 1080p.
@@ScrapyardFilms You might want to consider rendering at 1440p if you want your videos to look better on UA-cam.
The reason you should upscale is because of the increase in bitrate at higher resolutions not just the resolution, ofc a higher native resolution would be optimal, but the difference none the less is substantial.
Was just a tip, do with it what you will.

I have the vegas pro 17 (Build 387)
I want to make a video clip at 24 frames but my shots were made at 30 frames.
What is the most correct? Make my project at 24 frames and render at 24 frames or make my project at 30 frames and then render at 24 frames.
Also in the projects properties, what should I adjust to make it smooth without damaged frames? (resample mode and deinterlace method)

Well you should definitely disable resample mode. Also make sure your interlacing method is set to none. Then you'll just be rendering to 24fps and that's the best you're gonna be able to do.

I tried to adjust the playback bar but my vegas is just frozen now, I tried to re open it but it resumes to the moment it started freezing. I managed to delete it after waiting a couple of minutes, don't think I will be able to use this effect.

When i tried to put in fine quality, my vegas always end up crash and i have to start again. How do u solve it?
My VEGAS does not crash so I unfortunately do not know of a solution. Usually your best bet is logging in to your MAGIX account, downloading the latest installer, and updating your specific version of VEGAS. If that doesn't work, copy down all the information of the crash code, contact VEGAS support, give them your email and serial number, and they'll be able to help your further.
It’s unfortunate that if you’re using 120 or 240fps stock footage you can’t slow it down to make it look like 480 or 960fps.
Hi man, im on vegas 17 pro but do not have the 'adjust length of slow motion plugin' in extensions < tools. Can you help me?
Just drag your clip to the correct length. If you're slowing it down to 50%, drag the end to make it twice as long. If you're slowing it to 25%, drag it to 4 times as long. Etc., etc.

That's not his rendering frame rate, that's his project settings frame rate. It's 59.94 x 2. A lot of cameras don't actually shoot at 60 FPS, they shoot at 59.94 FPS. Likewise, instead of 24 FPS, some footage is actually 23.976. Check the clip properties to find out the actual frame rate.

I'm always down to improve the quality of my voice if you let me know of a better way to do it. I use Audition currently.
@@ScrapyardFilms Many people don't realize Vegas began life as an audio multi-track DAW. It's very powerful handling audio but for drilling down its companion audio editor Sound Forge work seamlessly in concert with Vegas.
Not sure if Wave Hammer plug-in comes with Vegas but I'm sure it does with Sound Forge, it's great at loudness & limiting, you can *hammer* the *wave* referred to as brick walling that I'm sure you don't want or use it conservatively to maximize/increase the loudness and prevent clipping.
Also if you get/have Sound Forge it comes with iZotope Essentials that has a maximizer module that works well.

by now I've been using VEGAS PRO 14, so this is new for me, but I understand it. Been working with slow mo many times in VEGAS before,
even interpolated 30fps videos to 60 with Twixtor in VEGAS.
I like 17 so far, but can you double framerate 240 fps to 480 with this function?
I have 240 fps videos, so they are being played 8x slower (at 30 fps) - so velocity would be 12,5%. What I want to do is to make them play 16x slower (at 30fps), velocity would be 6,25%.
You said you can set 120 fps in project properties at most, but I am able to set 240 (not because my videos are 240 fps ram, but I could also
If I change it to 480, it doesn't allow me to.
When I tried it on 240, whole vegas still crashed at some point of rendering.
those settings helps a lot to use chroma keys.... great job..!

Nice video but this is not real slow motion, the object that you are turning should not be blurry, that's is the real purpose of slow motion. It's just an another Magix Megas pro half baked feature. Try the same footage with twixtor and you'll see...At most this is a slowed down workflow. Using the gppd old velocity method is even a good deal between time vs quality. Just shoot at high framerate

"Disable Resample" FTW!!! ...without question, the worst feature ever... and if you don't have Pro, it gets forced on you by default...

Your face is constantly going from orange, to pink, to orange, to pink... I think there is something wrong with the way you 'adjust' your skintone. And maybe it's my OCD, but I always find beer-soda-chips cans lying around on the floor quite distracting , especially if they suddenly change position. I mean, someone must have noticed it, but didn't bother to actually pick it up ;-) Oh well, maybe it was just the dog that noticed it.
