Some of my friends are deaf including horse trainers so can't hear the gait. Headshake for foxtorm head nod for runningwalk, usually not much head movement for the saddlerack.
As to stumbling, I do a lot of body work and that often goes along with girthy issues. 3 Big body causes. 1 is tight extensors which can be easily fixed with bent knee lift/ stretch. The other 2 need a professkonal, looked 1st rib and locked diaphram. Of course our long and low helps ameliorate all of this.
Great! I am from Nalchik, Russia. I have 4 Karachay Horses. I would really like you to train my horses. Unfortunately, we are so far from you.. Thank you for your videos, you are great teacher and trainer. Wish you all the best
My MFT paces/trots/whatever so badly, that it feels like my teeth are going to break and I'm going to fall off. I don't feel like I can even work with her because I'm hanging on for my life!
i have a hackney mix , not sure what Hes mixed with but . when asked to go faster hell start out jogging normal but if asked to go faster starts to get rough choppy hard to sit,,,,i think Hes hard pacing but unsure , trying to train him to lope ridden as he lopes on the lunge/in round pen, and he moves way different then my paint. when jogged, so hard to figure out how to sit him when asked for speed. he bobs his head also when sped up.
I do have a tic toc of him lunging last yr when I first started getting him broke just free lunging in in his tack in roundpen... it was with a cheep junk saddle for initial breaking in.
It might have to do with footing or not giving a horse good motivation to try in the arena. I don't usually struggle unless I am having a hard time distinguishing the gait, then I need to ride where I can hear it.
Thanks so much! If you watch more of my videos, you'll see I do have a couple videos on the different gaits, but I try to stay away from that because it only matters in the show ring and I'm focused on relaxed gaits. Often horses will be doing the same gait, but the different breeds call it something different. It can be really confusing. Is there a gait in particular you are curious about?
@@IvyS I also have a gaited registered QH that I've had for 12 yrs. I never really looked into the gaits much, just enjoyed riding a horse that's (sometimes🙄) smooth as glass. Now that I've got a "real" gaited horse, a TWH, I'm looking into all the why's and how's. It's really quite fascinating. 😁
It won't ruin her, but you'll have a very hard time keeping her in gait. If you aren't building gaiting muscles then you're building pacing muscles. And that's a choice you have to make.
@@IvyS ty ♡ I'm hoping that she can keep up in gait. She's always done very well staying in gait but she is also a tripper. She likes to trip so I never pushed her for fear. Ty for your reply ! I love watching your videos
The right kind of groundwork can help. But you have to make sure it isn't a bad trim or shoes causing the problem. You need to make sure it isn't an issue like Lyme's disease or something like that. Then you can work on good ground work and lateral work from the saddle.
Thank you for the ongoing videos it has really helped me to get my horses head down and build up the hind quarters.
I'm so glad!
Pam from Cincinnati
The head tends to go side to side in a stepping pace.

Fantastic comment! I want to mention these on a future video about stumbling. Do you have resources I can check out?

I'd love to help! I was in Russia briefly in January. I'd love to come back! :)
I just bought a TWH and this is was so helpful! Just getting into Gaited horses for the first time and you translate in such easy terms! Thank you!
You are so welcome! I am glad the video helped!
So much to know about gaited horses. Not just walk, trot, canter. My huge Walker very fun to work on. Best horse ever had. You are the best info..

Ah, I'm so sorry. That is tough.
do you want to stop the running walk..I have a rocky who has a very fast walk..not sure if it is running walk..head does go up and down
That sounds like a flat walk, which is fine if that's what you want. It is a fine gait. I don't love it because of all the movement I feel.
This video is awesome! Thank you! And thanks for specifically talking about MFTs.

If you can get a video of him with you riding him asking for gait, that would help me help you. You can email it to ivyshorses@gmail.com
@@IvyS I can try to when the weather gets nice enough to ... I don't have anyone to help me get a video though

Why is it harder to gait in arena
It might have to do with footing or not giving a horse good motivation to try in the arena. I don't usually struggle unless I am having a hard time distinguishing the gait, then I need to ride where I can hear it.
Have you thought about doing videos on specific gaited horse breeds and their specific gait? Might be extremely helpful for some of us.

I have videos on the foxtrot, pace, stepping pace, saddle rack. And my new DVD will have videos on all the main gaits. :)
Off topic. Beautiful eyes, Ivy.
On topic, just got my first TWH. Thanks for your help.
Thank you!!! Glad I can help!

What should I look for in my RMH's gait
How much are you asking for the mare in the video, age height and price?
She sold a few weeks ago.
We are working on our gait but also on a drill team which sometimes I'm having to push her and causing her to pace. Will this ruin her ?

Where can I go to look at stuff you sale? I'm very interested in a particular bit TY 😊
So after we do a couple of days of going over poles can we move to the road so we can identify it easier?
Does ground work help with stumbling

Mostly long toes
Do you have TWH Gelding for sale
I don't right now. I never know if I'll have horses to offer for sale. Currently, I don't have any.
Does hoof Boots gender gaiting
Not any more than shoes. :) Boots don't seem to change the gait much at all.
I have used Cavallo boots and had great success
@@dogmom7698 what size did you get for your horse
hinder
Gait is not a verb it's a noun. So a horse cannot "gait".
