I miss Bob. I loved his Urban loft set, his walking towards the camera as the piece began. It gave his intros an immeadiacy, and his intelligence and enthusiasm was so delightful. God bless him.
Sadly, Robert is no longer with us to provide us with his incredible commentary and insight on cinema. But we will always have these great clips to remember him by thanks to UA-cam! It is nice to know that he is no longer in pain. Rest in peace Robert! You will be missed!
Seastrom wasn't the only one ticked off by the changed ending to leave Hollywood. So was Lillian Gish. She left the movies to mostly act on stage and only made a handful of films that she felt were worthy of her which were far and few between.
I remember Robert saying that he wished that TCM had started about 10 years before it did because he would have had access to some of the silent stars who were still around such as Lillian Gish.
Theres no denying that Victor Seastrom didnt like the ending and was ticked off by it. Maybe it was too EUROPEAN an ending, because it got altered during production? At least, it would have been inherent from European sensibilities. As well as a Swedish approach to filmmaking.

HELP! What film is that swinging lantern at the end of the promo from? I've been searching for years.
THE WIND, of course. Its shown in the movie where Lilian Gish looks at the lantern.
