Hey Muta. I hope you see this comment. Here in Iran we're facing one of the most strict internet censorships of the current times. Instagram, Whatsapp, Twitter, and even UA-cam (yes, I'm using a VPN right now), are all blocked by the government. Usually there's always a free VPN that works for some time, and then gets found out by the government and their addresses get blocked. Oracle needs a working CC to identify you, but here in Iran we do not have access to any services that provides us with a globally accepted CC. Is there any way to consistently get around internet censorship here in Iran (for free)? It's fine if the IP isn't masked. I would really appreciate a comment on this, or even better, a video for the people around the world facing internet censorship in third world countries. Best regards, and thank you in advance.
@Mawk zuckabewg Those things get blocked fast. We used to do that back in Middle School with Guardster...but they just block the proxy site. It's pretty easy to know when they are being used if you are monitoring someone's usage.
@Mawk zuckabewg They get blocked super fast, and if they don't get blocked, the government will reduce their bandwidth to the point that it won't be of use.
its sad, but only safe way is tor, its gonna be slow but if you have a really REALLY fast internet, its worth trying, i suggest not changing any settings in tor browser.
I appreciate this video very much! MentalOutlaw is one of the few UA-camrs whose opinion on VPN services I can agree with. Two more things about VPNs and encryption. 1. If you did not create the keys yourself, they do not belong to you. 2. It's hard for me to imagine that NORDVPN and Netflix don't have some secret deal. I know how sophisticated Netflix's geo-restriction checks are. They check your latency, hops, DNS, network, and whether your IP belongs to a data center where you might be hosting. They could easily prevent any NordVPN user from viewing geographically restricted content. I bet there's a lot of money involved.
Just the fact that UA-camrs advertise it Specifically for the Netflix Work Around confirms it. Companies don't just market for other ones without a reason to do so.
Nobody in their right mind would create a VPN. Why would you want to support activities such as child pornography? When someone creates a VPN, they enable the bypassing of criminal activities, including child pornography. It shouldn't be difficult to understand the point. As a Individual no one would make something that outrages hopefully. Also I use vpns to for bypassing geoblocking
Thank you for making the disclaimer that there are far better VPNs for privacy than those that are heavily pushed on social media or one you could self-host. You're a real one for that Mutah, it's important we always provide people with accurate information so they don't end up with bad OpSec.
I would think these days it's common knowledge that these heavily advertised vpns are not usually the best(as with most heavily advertised things honestly)

Sorry Muta, I want to watch your video but I just cant stop playing RAID Shadow Legends securely with NordVPN whilst shaving my pubic hair with the latest Manscaped Lawn Mower 4.0. I bet it was really good though.
The trick to getting great download/upload speeds is to not go with previous generation hardware and instead choose an Ampere VM (VM.Standard.A1.Flex shape which is free tier eligible). You get 1 Gbps bandwidth per Ampere OCPU so just get more OCPUs! You get 4 OCPUs and 24 GB of memory in the free tier. The other trick is to not use OpenVPN and instead set up a Wireguard server. I have one Ampere VM with 2 OCPUs and I can pretty much max out my ISP bandwith for download (400 Mbps) and get 88-90 MBps or higher for upload.
You HAVE to select US East (Ashburn) or US West (Phoenix) if you want to be able to do this. Unfortunately found out the hard way trying to select Chicago and you can't change regions.

Yeah, I have a free tier on Oracle, but they decided it was time to reclaim resources even though I was using mine for a Discord bot I was testing on Ampere. But then they royally fucked me so hard that I could no longer login to the server as it instantly booted me out. I had no issues prior to logging into it before, then all of a sudden, I'm no longer allowed to log into it. I've thought about using my OVH server that I pay for to route some connections through, mostly as a more comprehensive adblock and mobile VPN connection. Still thinking about it, but I'd have to do a lot more setup though because I run Debian on that VPS, rather than a pre-made image that Muta showed in this video.
this video is spot on for a VPN service. the only thing is that yes a VPN is used to protect your privacy but if you connect your VPN to a cloud service that collects logs like Oracle they still collect your data. unique IDs such as a cookie ID on your browser; IP addresses and information derived from IP addresses, such as geographic location; information about your device, such as browser, device type, operating system, the presence or use of ‘apps’, screen resolution, or the preferred language; the date and time you visited a Publisher Site; and the referring URL and the web search you used to locate and navigate to a Publisher Site.
I have my own VPN server I have in my home for when I'm NOT home. Mainly it's for when I'm working at a coffee shop or traveling so I can 1. Encrypt my connection and 2. Access the servers on my home network. 3. Get ad blocking with my own DNS server on my phone while on the go. I don't have a static IP address, but my router has a built in Dynamic DNS service to bind whatever my IP is currently to a domain name with it's own SSL cert. If I'm doing something where I actually need to obfuscate my IP address I'll just use the free VPN that is included with my Google One subscription, but it's rare that I need to do that.
If you create your own vpn you miss out on the benefits of having your traffic mixed in with everyone else's traffic on the same IP Address... I'd recommend either a stealth vpn or at least trying to get 40 to 60 other people onto your private vpn to make it look like the IP Address of a small office. The most tricky bit is how to cover the cost of bandwidth which usually requires a large benefactor or small membership fee.

Hey - Great video - Just one small thing I'd change. Oracle have recently been pushing ARM-based CPU's since they use far less electricity, and so have rather crazy limits on their Always Free tier for it. Instead of choosing AMD, use Ampere (VM.Standard.A1.Flex) You can then shoot the specs up quite high (Freely speaking), whist still remaining 100% free. OCPU count: 4 Network bandwidth (Gbps): 4 Memory (GB): 24 As you see, this spec is SIGNIFICANTLY higher than the one you have set, and is "priced" the same. For users attempting to use this for anything more than just a basic VPN box, just note that you need to ensure your software is ARM (aarch64) compatible. Whilst some older software may not be, quite a bit of modern software is releasing ARM-based versions for this purpose - Especially things you'd find on server-based infrastructure. That said, I've managed to get Steam (x86) AND a Valheim Server (x64) running on it using emulated architecture just fine, although that's not something your regular end-user will easily be able to set up.
Point to note: They have usage limits on Ampere. One of my instances was stopped because I didn't use enough CPU in a one-week period (I was running nextcloud and photoprism, apparently not using it means that it idles at very low CPU usage lol)
18:32 save settings for auto login profile, hitting enter alone will make it disappear. 19:38 Muta says “password” he meant IP address given to you by oracle
Any reason you didn't use Wireguard? I'd find it a bit easier than OpenVPN to setup and use. It also has clients for basically all OSes (not sure about iOS though).
To whoever Sponsorblocking Muta; you deserve the title"spped". Its been only 3 minutes since the upload. Edit: I meant to say "speed" but whatever, this is better. Its a mix of Sponsor + Speed

Hello guys and gals, it's me Mutahar again! This time we take a look at the second iteration of MutaVPN. With so many companies offering security and privacy is there not a way you can achieve a significant amount of their offerings with a little bit of hard work on your own part? Let's find out! Thanks for watching!
I see the purpose of this video (making a free and generally private vpn). If the goal is to access content (media server or NAS) from your local network securely, then the previous video is more generally applicable.
I've been waiting for you to release your video on VPNs for so long, as I recall you stated in a prior video long ago that you had some interesting news when it came to the shady practices of vpn services.
Interesting fact: Mullvad actually got raided by the Swedish police not long ago (a week or two ago maybe?) and they seem to be doing what they say they're doing because when the cops came and wanted to seize their hardware with user data they actually had nothing of that sort so the police had to just go home again empty handed.
Next time: Muta tries to install Linux into his Mustang using an old Laptop, a paperclip, some Tim Hortons coffee and the most ancient and archaic of all texts: the Necronomicon Ex Mortis.
"Always free" isn't always free in Oracle environment. Oracle is known to use credit card once you've exhausted you free tier. Their customer is service isn't great either. I feel Oracle quite a "rude" company when it comes about money.
Keep in mind oracle cloud also offers a 4 of Ampere 128 core CPU and 24GB of ram for free at no cost, keep in mind after your free trial expires, you will be stuck on one availability domain, so choose your options wisely
Hey Muta, thank you so much for all the work you do! I now have my own VPN thanks to you. I really appreciate all the work you put into educating us. Keep going brother.
Interesting, but if it's free it's because they're either testing out the waters for a paid service, in which case you'll soon be looking for an alternative host, or it's because you are the product. What's more, given that it's Oracle, the chances are pretty good that they'll sell your information to the cops as well, although these days that's a worry with literally every major corporation.

Are you gonna start sponsoring people? 😂
Thanks for being a patient and kind teacher. Much love ❤
You want a VPN service based outside of the 14 eyes alliance. Mullvad is based in Sweden. Nord is my favorite since it's based in Panama
Next time: Muta tries to install Linux into his Mustang using an old Laptop, a paperclip, some Tim Hortons coffee and the most ancient and archaic of all texts: the Necronomicon Ex Mortis.
Muta shouting out Mental Outlaw, love to see it
Very interesting, Oracle seems prerty generous with its free cloud tier.
just did it and it works pretty well! gonna use this instead of my free vpn service that i was using just for safety reasons, thanks muta!
"Always free" isn't always free in Oracle environment. Oracle is known to use credit card once you've exhausted you free tier. Their customer is service isn't great either. I feel Oracle quite a "rude" company when it comes about money.
Please make more videos like this!!
Keep in mind oracle cloud also offers a 4 of Ampere 128 core CPU and 24GB of ram for free at no cost, keep in mind after your free trial expires, you will be stuck on one availability domain, so choose your options wisely
I love MentalOutlaw. Been watching him for years. Hes a goodlooking man with great OPSEC and cooking skills! He makes me feel safe 🥺

Love the Joshua Weissman reference in the title !
Hey Muta, thank you so much for all the work you do! I now have my own VPN thanks to you. I really appreciate all the work you put into educating us. Keep going brother.
mental outlaw is pretty cool
Mental outlaw and muta are best chanell for keeping you updated on data breaches and how to protect your privacy
Definitely going to try this myself being in the computer space and all.
Mutahar tech vids are my absolute favorite. I'm hyped.
Oracle shut me down after a couple weeks for doing exactly this! Goods luck keeping it long term.
Can't wait to see MutaVPN to come out. It better be paid with NFTs, be 30% off and have a 3 month fee trial when it's out or I'm out, Muta! 😆.
Never thought I'd see a mental outlaw shout-out on SOG
Interesting, but if it's free it's because they're either testing out the waters for a paid service, in which case you'll soon be looking for an alternative host, or it's because you are the product. What's more, given that it's Oracle, the chances are pretty good that they'll sell your information to the cops as well, although these days that's a worry with literally every major corporation.
As someone who has a .gov email I can confirm we use oracle systems so this wouldn’t surprise me
Wow, what an excellent tutorial! I've learned a lot and was able to create my own VPN. Thank you!
You could try choosing Ampere CPU its faster has more cores and its still free.
