Am I the only one who thinks we should get an album of all John Mayer released and unreleased covers? Imagine being able to have “Going down the road feel in’ bad” “Route 66” “Promises” ,etc in the same album 🤞🏻
John Mayer is a Big Dude that strat looks tiny in his hands. And a very excellent player to be sure. Miss Jerry's tone on this tune. Especially above the 12th fret.
@@SecondCasey24 The Dead covered this too. It's like an early 1900-1920's song. I believe Delaney and Bonnie showed the Dead this song during Festival Express. Toby and Davvy on UA-cam do much better than ol John Mayer over here tbh.
I've always loved that John Mayer was so easy to hate on, and was such a humble good dude with more talent then the all the haters could ever discount. It's such a beautiful thing. It's like God giving a middle finger to all the haters.
Mayer is so incredibly talented most don't realize. I've watched Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, and Doyle Bramhall all just so very happy John's talent will carry on the blues rock bad ass guitar playing.
John mayer i am a 14 year old boy who can play guitar and i have learned so much from you i am from Cape Town, South Africa. My only wish is for you to come to Cape Town even if it is just for 1 Day and have a concert. please please please ... lots of my friends love you and your music too
He is nothing less than a great musician - arranging, writing, singing, performing, playing. It is simply not fair to shorten it to "guitar playing". He is the absolutely complete package
John Mayer is of course fantastic, here, but props to the band -- the bass player, especially, but the backup singers, steel guitar, and everyone else, too, laying down such a groovy, many-layered foundation -- they really add a lot and make the song.
I could never get into John Mayers personal music but man this guy is a Great guitarist and musician I love his work with weir and his work with grateful dead covers
Every generation begets kindred spirits to everyone who has played the song. Because the songs matter more than we know. John and his bands are kindred spirits without question. Long may they run.
Very nice indeed!! He seemed to capture the feel of the way I've always heard it played. Sounded alot like Richard Forrest Betts. Sweet , soulfully, ravishing tone. I see why Clapton speaks so highly of his playing.
by this point, he seems to be on his way to finding his way...idk, I can't judge, I don't know shit. i guess i know what i hear. sounds good man! jmo. thank you all for the music, and the times--super super thank you all!!
In 2022, whenever I hear JM do this song I always hope that he is not feeling bad as he sings about being treated. No one should be treating this man badly at all, anytime. He's a true gift to us all, to be appreciated. I really hope this is not a reflection of reality for him, but rather a song that he enjoyed jamming for pleasure. Love him madly, don't want him really hurting ❣❣❣
It's an old American standard. Been covered by countless artists. Most notably the grateful dead, of course. Check out their version. Especially their version of "not fade away" into "going down the road". It. Is. Sublime.
Nice version with excellent musicians accompanying John M. Anyone know who's behind the keyboards? Nice duet with the pedal steel. Thank you once again, VeVo, for providing an excellent set.
+Joe Doyle Play this twice (each letter = a bar, 4 slow beats) E - E - E - E E - E - E - B E - A - A - E A - B - E - E Check my UA-cam channel - Folks Up in Treetops cover
He just seems to be one those guys you don't know whether to love or hate, great musician and 5 years worth of my wages for amps sitting on that stage behind him! Wonder just how good he'd sound with a pair of Hotrod Devilles back there?!
Boozoo Chavis the guitarist makes the rig sound good, not the other way around... Kinda like just because I have the same clubs as Tiger, I'm still not a PGA TOUR player. He could take your Squier strat, shitty line6 amp and melt both our faces off with it. He can be an acquired taste, a little easy to hate on, but no matter what anyone says about the dude he is a brilliant musician and one of the top 2 or 3 guitarists of his generation.
These reactions down in the comments tell me that most of you fellas don’t know who Jerry Garcia is. If you liked johns solo, the Grateful Dead is who you need to listen to
There is no feeling more intense than starting over.

You're awesome.

Anyone who gives John Mayer shit does not pay attention to the fact that he can play the guitar like this. Damn the guy can play.
True
That’s right
Excellent guitar player sub par singer
@@WRiverHammond agreed. Respect his skills on guitar, his singing just puts me off...
He an awesome guitarist and singer
It is a pleasure to hear John Mayer playin the Dead. 💕
i don't think the audience realized they just saw the 'bluesy' John Mayer rize from the dead.. 5:20 made me really happy
I'll never get to his level, but every time I see him play, I get an ear to ear smile. He bleeds musicality. :)
Erin Taylor I hear ya! Music like this inspires me to play every free moment I have.
come on dude don't talk like that, nothing a little consistency can't cure
Erin Taylor He for sure can play a mean blues. Oh yeah!
Erin Taylor He wasn’t ask just for norhing by EC to play on his Crossroads Guitar Festival. In 2007 if i’m not mistaken.
Erin Taylor THIS!! Hah
My man was born for blues 🎶👌🏻
Jerry would be proud, may he R.I.P.
JOHN KILLS IT EVERY TIME. You rule. I love you to the moon and back. Keep on rockin'.
Hello how are you doing it’s nice meeting you here.
Why is this performance as a whole so magical ?
It introduced an entire new generation to the greatful dead
Im a sucker for bass and drums and the gd. Tnx jm for keeping it alive
I'm a tried and true DeadHead, I'm impressed.
Is that Sheriff Jim Hopper on drums?

Nothing like the Dead starting a set with “Going down the Road Feeling Bad, the energy goes through the roof.
One of the best bluesman of this generation
Goddamn man John teared that shit up
I watched it live about 10 years ago and I still keep coming back. It's decisively the best recorded version of this song.
John Mayer is a Big Dude that strat looks tiny in his hands.
And a very excellent player to be sure.
Miss Jerry's tone on this tune. Especially above the 12th fret.
How can someone be this good?
GOT. DAMNN!
John is at one with his strat. Bleeds rhythm
Love to listen to John play his electric guitar and sing his songs.

Woody Guthrie wrote it, then Doc Watson popularized it, the version which Jerry took to as he grew up playing bluegrass with the legends

What a transformation John Mayer has been through! I am so glad he spit out the bubble gum. He is becoming a living legend guitar player!

He's been playing Hendrix and SRV masterfully since he was in his teens.

Sean Lenz Listen to the live 2013 version of "Queen of California". The jam is a lot like a Dead song.
If you haven't had a chance yet, check out his stuff as a trio. JMT. I always liked that a lot. More blues. Less pop.
That’s a double treat! Lucinda Williams’ guitarist playing the slide!
never thought i would hear him play Grateful Dead. loved it
Ha ha! And that's pretty much all he plays now. It's the hippest!
Well, except that it's not a Dead tune per se ... while the Boys' cover was a defining version, they did not write the song.
FINALLY. This was by far the best performance of the show. THANK YOU!
