This video series is helpful. I wish I had more econ friends to share it with. I think making another video on how to find research questions will help us further. It will be interesting to know What makes a research question a bad one? And how to make the question actually helpful (brings something new and not a boring “academic” type of question)
Please do a video on how to find research question for undergrad level. What is a good research question? And how can first time researchers go about it?
Yes please, a video on how to find research questions. I have a broad range of interests but I don't know what I want to invest my time in. Also, thank you for sharing this video!
Please make video on different research questions of interdisciplinary nature. Eco and Science &Engineering ECO and Political Science Eco and History Eco and Psychology
You all prolly dont give a damn but does someone know a trick to get back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly lost my account password. I would love any help you can offer me.
@Reed Eddie Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im trying it out now. I see it takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
This is extra insightful. Just graduayed with an economics degree from Machakos University in Kenya. I'm a new student in this class and I can't wait to catch up.
Lol I was literally just thinking about writing a research paper on how economics can improve data analysis because I’m interested in that filled 😂thanks!
I love this channel so much! I plan on starting undergraduate research later this academic year so this is so helpful! I'm so excited about this little series you're doing. Thanks for all that you do
HI, great video! Quick question, I watched one of your video where you talked about coding a bot that helped you grab data from websites. Is that something we will be trained to during the program or should we get trained on that aside of school? I guess this is the most important thing (data) to compete research questions?
It probably depends the school you go to. The school I go to doesn't require it for graduation, so it isn't taught in the econ program. The basic code for scraping websites is relatively simple though, and there are plenty of step by step guides on how to do it online. I would just look those up.
@@Iconolaste That's awesome! Purdue is a research University, so I'm sure there will be opportunities for you to do research with professors there alongside answering your own personal research questions. The sooner you can engage yourself in those opportunities, the better!
I'd like to do some research about the low/poor school performance of students produced by grouping based on the age instead of grouping them based on the level in the different subjects. This applies to a specific geographic area (Argentina), obviously because it's different in each country, but data from places where they group based on level instead of age would be very useful for the research. The question would be "Is age-based grouping the cause of low performance of students?" As one of the possible answers, I thought of: low performance it's due to the children's demotivation when the subject is either too difficult or too easy. I still do not know how I would obtain the data to carry out the research but I think the question I asked is a good one. What do you think?
what are you suggesting? means are you suggesting to form group of students on the basis of their subject interests, regardless of which standard they are in? please clarify?
@@debottambhattacharya3114 I think they're suggesting kind of like a meritocratic system? So like, just because someone's x years old, doesn't mean they should be in grade y.
Do you think independent research is worth it? I come from a university with an applied focus so we don't do that much research. We know how to write a paper (well, at least in Spanish), but we don't do it a lot.
I take a really broad approach to research. How are you applying what you learn? Are you discussing the economics behind a policy in your country? That counts as research. Are you trying to estimate the effect of an intervention? Definitely research. Is it worth it? Absolutely. It's the most effective way to make yourself stand out.
@@MarketPowerYT well I'm actually a business graduate, but my interest in economics has increased a lot in the last couple of years. I can relate to your interest in Haiti since I was raised and still live in Honduras, and there's a lot of research to be done here, especially in development economics (if you are ever interested in doing research on Honduras please hit me up!). Even now during the pandemic lockdown it's interesting to see how many informal businesses have popped up in social networks, and they don't plan to formalize or establish themselves legally any time soon. It would be interesting to analyze Honduran aversion to "red tape" and how it affects growth. Another interesting topic would be municipal debt and how a bond market could increase a city's capacity to invest in public works. Anyways, I feel that my current knowledge in economics is way too shallow to write a very elaborate paper, but I want to continue learning. Thank you Prof., you are truly an inspiration.

I second making a video on how to research. Thank you for your content and energy!

That's a great topic! As more algorithms control the allocation of resources, we'll need more economists to make sure those algorithms work properly.

Hello I just see this video it's so helpful and we want to know more questions...
How do I sign up to your newsletter ? I want to get them via E-Mail

@@jakkeddaw Wow thank you so much! I Will follow your advise....
loving the series! however, where and how do you put that research so the world can see?
That's coming in the series! I'm going to discuss gathering data and analyzing it, then I'll do a video on disseminating your research.
Hey can you elaborate a bit on how to get the most out of any economics book? Sometimes at the end of the book, its quite eery to gather our learnings
Please sir make vedio on how to find any topic for research
