Addi G It takes an EXTREME amount of patience if you want free forms. My hair was/is curly just like yours. It took at least 6 months for them to even start locking up. Just simply let your hair grow, just let time do it’s thing. The only thing I did to maintain them is I barely washed my hair (maybe twice out the whole week) & separate the dread when I seen too much hair locking up in one place (very important because you could end up getting super thick Congo like dreads). I’m 4 years in with the free forms. Wish I could show a pic, shits fire, love catching everyone attention just walking through.
Foodrun if you think free forms are ew don’t even consider getting dreads free forms are a way of living a way of showing maturity in not just your hair but in life, one must accept his natural self by letting the hair do what it wants your hair is an extension of your self dah freeforms hold more energy then any none free formed dreads. It shows dedication self love and you feel accomplished it’s a whole boost in your life after free forming no one can bust down ur positive vibes.
I just started my dreads with coils a few weeks ago and I got really impatient so I picked up a crochet needle today and used it on my coils. Crochet needle is definitely the way to go!
@@kevf8582 Its really repetitive and time consuming. It took me something between 7-8 hours to crochet hook all of them properly. But it definitely pays off! You just have to take a break once in a while because your arms might get tired or your fingers hurt...
Definitely gonna pick up a crochet hook! What size hook do you recommend? I have curly hair so I'm unsure if I need a particular size or if hair type makes no difference. The ones that I've found locally all come in a kit but I just want one to keep on me while I travel...🙏🏽
No because on the crochet needle there's a teeny tiny hook at the top where it pulls your hair through the lock. A comb won't have the hook so it wouldn't work.
Honestly, it's better to just go with the twist/free-form method. It may lock instantly for now with the tool but a year or two down the line you'll notice the difference. Locs are like ropes (of hair) , if you keep poking holes in it to make em tighter, they'll be hallow, hard, and inconsistent in terms of thickness. I did it and regretted it big time so I'm semi-free forming now. But that's just my experience with it. Best of luck on y'all journeys which ever you do decide on.
i used gel on my hair and i used sponge method to make my dread locs . They haven't gotten a satisfying look since then . How will i make them better . do i use crotchet method to make them look nice
This is a fab video, full of great info an knowledge! We are hairloss specialists and use a crochet interlocking method. We interlock the roots and crochet the mid lengths and ends. This creates instant looking dreads, a natural look! Palm roll over time can lead to alopecia, hairloss and breakage.
What makes it so bad my mom crochets lol. But anyway I’m thinking about growing out my hair so I can start. But it’d be a gigantic Afro with minimal twists. So how would I go from that? I do have a selfie from when I had the Afro.
Gunther if you have crocheted locs that are a bit too thick for your likings, can you make them skinnier through good maintenance or is the only way to minimize them splitting the dread ?
Dude, I asked the lady at the salon to start locks, and she said she would braid it first and after a couple of weeks she would continue the process, side note is that I can't wash it. A week is about to hit and I'm going wild on the itch, can I just stick a needle in this thing and just turn it into locks? I already lost 90 bucks in this process. HELP ME (BTW my hair is a thick and heavy long curly hair)
I started my locs almost 2 months ago with the traditional gel and twist comb coil method. My locs are mostly all budded up and some are almost fully locd but I do have some that are struggling. I think if I just did the crochet needle method it would help tremendously but I’m curious: Does it really make it instantly ok to wash my hair once or twice a week like normal? Do I get any shrinkage with it? How long can I go before recommended to retwist while still in the starter stage?
Yo man, I've recently got dreads in the last few days and am having some issues. They aren't very tight to the scalp and are quite loose all around each dread. Every time I retwist them though, it feels like I am un doing them. Have you got any advice?
Lee Johnson yeah but also dreads are used fur any hair texture even nappy gets faster dreading but straight can be dread if you don’t was your hair it dreads with any hair type so it is meant for any hair texture on certain hair texture it goes faster but that’s it
Had my hair interloc’d and still ended up using the crochet needle. Now they look more uniform and like real locs. Great advice.
interlocking is used with a crochet needle, if they didn’t use one then they def didn’t interlock your hair.
Interlocking and the crochet needle is a blessing 🙏🏽
the only thing you need for dreadlocks is hair really
Grzybson I grew my dreads completely on accident lol. Just simply grew my hair out & they turned out to great free forms. I still can’t believe it

Yes
does the size of the crochet hook matter
So i can start with twisting and gel and mature with crochet hooking? With straight?
How often can I crochet my started dreads
Only one time or youll break them off. After tgat just crochet new growth. Maybe every 4 weeks.
