What a great follow up to your other video on these! a perfect compare! i personally run my Colourbox on step 2 and i think for general application its a great base line. I also agree that a big part of why i love my colour box is the feel, it just feels right more than it sounds so much better than a different DI.
Hey there. Love your demo! Well done, informative, and a funky fun groove to boot. Answered/demoed a few of my own questions about the CB. Thank you! I also have some ocd streak in me that needs to point out that you are *not* using a JDI. The ProDI you are using has a custom made Eclipse transformer (and is very good, too). But the "J" in JDI stands for its Jensen transformer (the pricier option), and - yes - it does sound a bit better (in my opinion). Just thought you'd like to know... you probably already do, I know. But upgrade that sucker and you might solve that clipping problem. Well, maybe not, but ymmv... Keep up the good work!! And thanks again!!
What makes the Colour Box so good is the transformer. That's where you get that nice saturation. Combined with the very flexible EQ, the CB is a great preamp or even a complete rig depending on your needs. I think it's great for recording a good clean tone you can re-amp later.
Try to turn down the PRE and crank the STEP more on the JHS pedal, I never used it but if it’s a Neve preamp you’re not using the output transformer or not driving it enough. Let me know how if that works for you please, 🙏 m curious about that pedal - and need more Neve in my life.

Thanks for doing this

I think the colourbox output transformer is still in the signalpath even when bypassed - I find it makes things sound better even off...
I believe you are correct! But I’m not sure if I can hear much of a difference. Cool to know it’s there supporting the signal either way!
