  • From www.swimmingpoolsteve.com/pag... this video talks about fundamental water chemistry process so that you know how much / how many chemicals you need to add to your pool.
In short, test your pool water first. Establish the current water condition (with numerical values for each) and determine which (if any) chemicals are not within the ideal range. Of the identified "out of range" chemicals, adjust according to the pool water chemistry correction protocol - If you need to see the normal chemical ranges as well as the order of corrections for pool chemicals you can find this information in the Swimming Pool Steve 10 minute pool chemistry crash course: www.swimmingpoolsteve.com/pag...
The amount of any given chemical you need to add to your pool water to adjust the levels will depend on what your starting parts per million measurement is (for most pool chemicals) as well as your desired outcome. You also need to know the volume of your swimming pool (an approximate volume is definitely okay here). FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS on the label of the pool chemicals you are using. This is critically important for safety. There are similar chemical names, different chemical concentrations etc. which could easily be confused from reading an online resource about pool chemicals. By law there are no pool chemicals for sale which lack dosing instructions. At most you will need to crate a ratio between the example they give you on the bottle, and how to apply that dosing to your pool with a different volume than the example.

    Hi Steve,
What is the procedure when adding Bicarb to raise Alkalinity? Can I broadcast the amount of powder needed over the pool or do I need to brush the pool afterwards as well? Is there a better way to do it? My apologies for all the questions. I had to let go of the folks that were so-called maintaining my pool and decided to just do it myself. Just a bit rusty and trying to remember everything I need to do.

I am a new subscriber and I would like to add my two cents into the conversation. I would think that adding chemicals into your pool would be a sort of trial & error to an extent.
