    Ask someone born and raised in Bakersfield California I was stoked to hear them use my hometown in a movie

    I have zero context for Smersh Pod or the UK references but I still laughed and understood the humor, it speaks well of your editing!

    Fun fact: ceramic shards are actually so sharp they use them to make scalpel blades. Porcelain Greg could fuck you up!

      Yeah but he's some tosser in a ming dynasty artefact, not some ceramite clad techno warrior with micromolecular blades

    Surprisingly, they didn't mention the best line in the entire movie.
    "I'll be back."
    "Only in a rerun, pal."

    What a treat! Your videos are superb, and the best way to enjoy Smersh Pod/RLM. As a yankee, I had never heard of the Royal Knockout and would be lost without the context!

    • @DanceySteveYNWA
      @DanceySteveYNWA 2 роки тому +3

      The program was called "Its a Knockout" and was a regular on Saturday evening British TV. It was made famous by the commentary and how he would lose it laughing at the contestants failures during the tasks. They were usually competing families and they were a series of silly games, almost circus like in its presentation. The Royals would get involved once a year I think, and then they would change the name to 'its a Royal knockout'.

    Amazing that this was only three years before Total Recall. And Arnie looks so young.

    Did they not air Hogan's Heroes in the UK?

    I didn't even know until recently that The running man film is based off a Steven King novel. Well there you go

    • @aroyals339
      @aroyals339 4 місяці тому

      I mean, very loosely based. The name Ben Richards and the fact that it's a game show about killing people are the same but absolutely everything (including the nature of the game) else is different.
      I believe King even sued them to have his name removed from the movie.

    • @synchc

      It's very good, for what it is. Definitely one of the novels that helped give shape to the coming cyberpunk genre.

    Another great video, thanks. The Running Man - apart from my enjoying it on the odd occasion it comes on the telly I can't for the life of me work out what I think of this film. It certainly isn't good, but it is entertaining. A 'Best of the Worst' with a budget or a cult classic? I don't know.
    PS: Carry on Cleo, Carry on up the Khyber, Carry on Screaming... all films worthy of a Smersh Pod review?

      Nonsense. Movie is far superior to the story.
      It knows exactly what it is. Which is something that can't be said for any of the Kings' Bachman stories. Apart from Thinner. And maybe Blaze - haven't read that one yet.
      Then again, Bachman stories being kinda incoherent is probably the reason why they work better when adapted by other people.
      Both Battle Royale and Hunger Games literally came to be when their respective writers read King's The Bachman Books collection - and then re-imagined elements from it into a more coherent world and storyline.
