How did you apply ashes of war to the serpent hunter i can't get apply anything to mine when I try to do that special move you do using the FP while holding it with two hands and my guy just stabs with it how do I actually use the thing
Legit was struggling so hard with this boss to the point that I had advanced to giant land and even haliquetree stuff. This is legit the most straightforward and dark souls newbie friendly guide I have seen for this fight. Others want you to do ridiculous boulder jumps and honestly this makes way more sense. With my high level pearldrake and flamedrake medallions this fight was over so quickly. Thank you so much. this guide was legit my saving grace.

Another tip that I found ridiculously helpful is upgrade the serpent hunter to +10 (ik this is difficult but if you really are desperate for an easy win then this helps a lot) then also get the lionels armour set. You have enough poise to not get constantly staggered by his lava, this means you can spam the big attacks and do immense damage, you also have really good fire damage resistance with this so consumables are less necessary. I have done this 3 times and gotten through his second phase without him doing the exploding skulls attack. Level up your mind and endurance too so you can keep spamming and maybe bring a physic flask with a cerulean hidden tear for no fp consumption. Get the flamedrake talisman too (+1 if you can) and get the axe talisman for enhanced charge attacks, the winged sword insignia helped I think and if you have a spare slot get the pearldrake talisman (+2 if you reached haligtree before this guy). This guy just becomes the easiest enemy in the game with this setup, haven't died to him once doing this method, you just hold sprint and spam ashes of war, drink if your health is half way just in case of jump attacks and spins and you are fine. Hope this helps someone.
This video was just straight logic all the way through. Spent 10 minutes preparing, 1 minute fighting. I didn't even remember to use my Ashes summon before he was dead. Thats how you kill bosses in Elden Ring. Thanks, really great guide!!

I just have one thing to say. Great video and explanation! I tried a cheese method envolving climbing on top of a rock, the spam skill method, nothing worked. With this tutorial I got it 1st try and I didn't even used all the items only the talismans. tysm this guide helped me so much 2 years later and still works prefectly fine
@@FFG8G I think that if you let rykard focus the mimic and then start spaming it might work. But I really recommend this method, you will do it first try

Holy this actually worked. This was so easy, so fast. Simply change equipment for more fire resis, pot some fire resist consumable, stay close to him and voila 1st try, no summons even. Thank you for the help.

I am only lvl 67 and I generally main whips but I had the armor and talismans to effectively do what you demonstrated here. Get in close and wreck with R1's, R2's, and occasional L2 to stop his heavy power up attacks. Thank you for this video.

It helps to use the L2 attack once you have the sword leveled up. It pretty much stuns Rykard so you’re able to continuously hit him with the same attack and don’t have to worry about dodging anything
Getting under him and whacking did the trick, thanks. Cast summons right before cut-scene, that helped; don't think I got the raining skulls but was too busy to look around.

TYSM! kept getting cornered when i dodged the skulls and sword combo during second phase, instead of that I couldve just gone straight up in his face (cut) and attacked him Much better than those other guides which tell you to hide behind a rock, I was too worried about the lava to get close lol, but with proper buffs the only thing i had to worry about was the lava canceling my flask animation i was really worried I was going to have to respec and go strength build from my squishy mage, but this helped so much
This worked unbelievably well, thanks! I was dying after just doing a 1/4 damage to the first health bar, and then after watching your video and doing this tactic I destroyed him after just 3 tries! I used the flamedrake +2 and pearldrake +1 talismans, and instead of the consumables for fire damage, i used flame fortification and golden vow. The Serpent Hunter was upgraded to +4. Also, I don't think you have to run from the flaming skulls. I just stayed where I was and didn't get hit. Since you're so close to Rykard, I don't think they can get to you. However I did spam the weapon art when he brought out the skulls to kill him faster, so I can't guarantee that you would never get hit.
Was just getting slaughtered on the second phase even having leveled up the sword. With this approach I just walked right up and poked him to death the first try with 2 potions. Thanks
Man, I stopped playing elden ring for a while because I was frustrated with Rykard. In light of the DLC I decided I'd better go back and get into it. With your tips of getting close, using +6 serpent hunter and a flamedrake talisman I got him. Thanks dude.
I tried an even more budget version of this, and it worked like a charm. My serpent hunter is only +2, and I didn't use any firefroof livers or anything, but the fight was shockingly easy. Thanks for the tip, a year after the fact!
I tried so many times to figure out all the patterns. Try to one time to just run in and keep hitting both bosses as close as I could work first time. Thanks a lot

@@saijbergman3331 Try different buttons. Hold it with 2 hands. Use light attack. And a heavy attack. R1 and R2.

You can actually use mimic tear with the spear, as long as you upgrade the mimic tear a bit the fight is super easy.

@@dejanlening3292 He sometimes jumps away more often and sometimes less often. Sometimes it is just the luck of the draw. 🍀

It helps to use the L2 attack once you have the sword leveled up. It pretty much stuns Rykard so you’re able to continuously hit him with the same attack and don’t have to worry about dodging anything

Getting under him and whacking did the trick, thanks. Cast summons right before cut-scene, that helped; don't think I got the raining skulls but was too busy to look around.

kept getting cornered when i dodged the skulls and sword combo during second phase, instead of that I couldve just gone straight up in his face (cut) and attacked him
Much better than those other guides which tell you to hide behind a rock, I was too worried about the lava to get close lol, but with proper buffs the only thing i had to worry about was the lava canceling my flask animation
i was really worried I was going to have to respec and go strength build from my squishy mage, but this helped so much

This worked unbelievably well, thanks! I was dying after just doing a 1/4 damage to the first health bar, and then after watching your video and doing this tactic I destroyed him after just 3 tries!
I used the flamedrake +2 and pearldrake +1 talismans, and instead of the consumables for fire damage, i used flame fortification and golden vow. The Serpent Hunter was upgraded to +4. Also, I don't think you have to run from the flaming skulls. I just stayed where I was and didn't get hit. Since you're so close to Rykard, I don't think they can get to you. However I did spam the weapon art when he brought out the skulls to kill him faster, so I can't guarantee that you would never get hit.

Was just getting slaughtered on the second phase even having leveled up the sword. With this approach I just walked right up and poked him to death the first try with 2 potions. Thanks

Jump attacks do a really good amount of damage, if you combo that with the heavy attack talisman you can do 3k in one hit

Man, I stopped playing elden ring for a while because I was frustrated with Rykard. In light of the DLC I decided I'd better go back and get into it. With your tips of getting close, using +6 serpent hunter and a flamedrake talisman I got him. Thanks dude.

I tried an even more budget version of this, and it worked like a charm. My serpent hunter is only +2, and I didn't use any firefroof livers or anything, but the fight was shockingly easy. Thanks for the tip, a year after the fact!
