Having worked for Acura for 8 years I can say you are 100% correct, Acura used to be awesome, especially during these years. That's a very clean example, very hard to find these days. BTW, I own a 1994 6speed coupe. I love that car. ua-cam.com/video/yfVn134HBbI/v-deo.html
Coupe of things. The Legend did not come standard with keyless entry. It was a dealer installed option. The compartment in the rear package tray is for a first aid kit that came standard in European models. Also, I believe there was a full size spare available. The ones with the compact spare got the foam spacer. I want to beat the person with a hose that installed that aftermarket muffler. The original equipment had a 2 stage muffler that opened up at higher RPM. With the correct muffler, is whisper quiet.

To say its low on power is crazy! it was a V6 with a 6 speed manual and 230 HP. Maybe by todays standards it is slow. BUT a Mustang GT from the same year only had 240 hp with a 5 speed. And that was the high output version of the 5.0. The regular GT only had 215 hp....The Acura was very fast for what it was.

TrinomCZ exactly. There's no dedicated ground for those lights because it uses the parking light circuit for ground when the turn signal circuit is hot, and uses the turn signal circuit for ground when the parking light circuit is hot.
When the parking light isn't on, 12v flows thru the marker with the turn signal and they blink simultaneously. The parking circuit needs more current than what flows thru the small marker light bulb to illuminate but it still completes the marker circuit and allows it to light.
When the parking light circuit is active, the marker light uses the turn signal circuit for ground. The small marker light doesn't allow enough current to pass thru the turn signal circuit to make it illuminate, but it completes its circuit.
When the turns are active, 12v is present on both sides of the marker light, making it go dark because of lack of potential difference, and that's why you get a marker that blinks opposite the turn signal when the parking lights are on, and together with the turn signal circuit when the marker light isn't on.

Fresh out of college in 2000 I bought a '94 black on black GS coupe. I remember it had 86k miles and I paid about $14k. I loved that car and this video brought back a lot of memories. Something about seeing the interior and features of a car you once owned can really make you nostalgic. Mine had a huge brick cell phone built into the center console. It wasn't super fast compared to today's standards but I vividly remember opening it up one day and it got to a terrifying speed relatively quickly. I got a dog and sold the Legend a couple of years later for practically nothing, and bought a pretty non descript Dodge Durango. I'm sure driving one of these today would be pretty disappointing, but the Legend will always be dear to my heart. Thanks for making this video.

This video and the Supra one tug at my heartstrings a bit. My roommate had a MK IV Supra Turbo that he loved more than anything. Any time that car was out of commission, he cruised around in one one these Legend coupes, 6 speed and all. The longest stretch was when he replaced the short block in it, as his car had been neglected before he got ahold of it. I still remember helping him pull the engine out of it with a couple other buddies. I was always a muscle car guy, and I really knew nothing about the Legend. I thought it was a nice car, especially being 10 years old at the time, but I had no idea the 6 speed was really special until he told me how rare and desirable they were.
My friend was killed in his Supra when he was in a head on collision with a fleeing bank robber in 2007. Ever since, I get a lump in my throat whenever I see a Supra on the road. I suspect these Legend coupes might be an even rarer sight these days, although they are certainly anonymous compared with the styling of the Supra, so I might just be missing them. Seeing this car certainly makes me think of him. A lot of good memories, particularly with the Supra, and I want to thank Doug for reminding me of them with these two reviews.

Just my thoughts on some things.
    1. The moving seat belt also helps with people getting into the back seat.
    2. The armrest has that warning most likely because of mounted cellphones being popular at the time and they didn't want you to mount it in there with screws.
    3. The driver seat doesn't have the button on the backrest probably because they don't want the person sitting behind them to be able to mess with the seat.
    4. The turn signals alternate when the headlights are on probably because of voltage consumption. Or for more visibility at night (hence the headlights being on) since instead of blinking on and off, a portion of the turn signal is always on at any given time.

The turn signal thing is because when the headlamps and parking lights are on, the amber corner light is illuminated as the required sidemarker. The circuit is wired so that when the side marker is powered, the turn signal operation will be alternating, and when the side marker is not powered the current flow to ground goes through it so both corner and front flash at the same time as turn signals. www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/markerflash/markerflash.html

  • @maikerugo
    @maikerugo 6 років тому +55

    A few things:
    Clarifications:
The "light" for maintenance isn't actually a light-it's a colored dial/wheel. There's something in the car that reads the odometer (could be the computer, but I doubt it since the car only has OBD I and not the OBD II that gives you the really good information in an easy to read format) and it will rotate the dial/wheel from green, to yellow, then to red when it finally needs servicing. That said you can reset it back to green yourself (if you do your own maintenance) by inserting the key into the slot directly below the indicator-you can see that at 6:09 in the video.
    Additions to quirks:
The Legend has the same flip-tabs for the power locks as other Acuras from the '90s and thus the same issues that Doug mentioned in the Acura Integra video.
The engine is longitudinally mounted-which is somewhat uncommon for FF setups, but does reduce torque steer.
While the Acura logo does highly resemble the Honda logo it was designed to look like a pair of measurement calipers-hence reinforcing the idea that the name "Acura" relates to the word "accurate".
The Legend has an NSX-influenced the wrap-around interior as the door panels are designed to look like an extension of the dashboard when the doors are closed and various driver-centric additions/oddities.
    Trivia:
This car apparently has an unusually reverence amongst various rappers. Ludacris loves his '93 sedan (enough to still want to drive it around these days and feature it on an album cover) and when asked about it (during an interview with Chelsea Handler) he mentioned this, "You know, I think the Acura Legend was the signature drug dealer car back around then. So it's a good thing." It's also mentioned in the House of Pain track, "Legend".
Daewoo also re-badged it and sold it as the Arcadia in South Korea.

You won't regret it, until the BHG happens.
I have a '94 Legend sedan and remember the majority of what he was describing, except mine didn't have auto climate controls. That was an option, and in fact the auto climate option had photo-sensors on the door panels to increase the fan speed depending upon how much light was passing through the windows, indicating more solar heat was hitting the driver, rather than absolute temperature inside the cabin.
I would probably still be driving it if I didn't experience a BHG and had to resurface the heads and everything else that comes with such an event. I *really* loved that car and wouldn't hesitate purchasing another if the price was right.

It was ported different and the butterfly valves would open up after hitting around 4500 rpm and make a awesome sound. I use to have a 1997 TL with a 3.6 and I went to a junkyard and found a Type II intake. I ended up selling the car before I was able to put it on, but I still have the Type II badge that goes on the intake!

As a previous Legend Coupe owner, I've recently gone down a Legend rabbit hole, and came across this, hence the late comment. One quirk it has that you missed, and one I don't think I've seen on any other car, is there's a mini sun shade above the rear view mirror, for that little bit of sun you might not be able to block with the other two. Came in handy, but I've never seen it on any other car. And I could have sworn the vent fan was unique in that it was a dial that didn't have any notches or stepped settings, like 1 through 5, it would incrementally speed up with the dial. Maybe that was the earlier version.

At 12:50 with the turn signals, that's not a feature of just the Acura Legend. Almost all 90s and early 2000s (even later) vehicles have that. My 1996 Yukon, 2000 Sonoma, 1990,1991, and 2000 XJ all have it. It has to do with the way the lights are wired, specifically the ground side of the lighting. The side marker bulb is actually powered one way with the running lights off and is reverse powered with the running lights on. Which is why it alternates and also why when you put LEDs (single polarity) in place of the incandescent side marker bulbs you lose that function and have to choose whether you want it to come on only with the parking bulbs or when they are off.

I'm glad you reviewed a Legend! I have a 1992 Acura Legend Coupe with the 3.2L V6 tuned at 214 HP. I just thought I'd remark on the false fact that the coupe came out in 93. The V6 came stock as a 200hp FWD in 91 when the first 2nd gen was created. I would also like to mention that, I personally own one of these, and the back seats have NO ROOM. Especially on the drivers side unless the driver is on the steering wheel.
