Thank you so much! So many other videos say you need to buy multiple expensive adapters and one said you need to buy a vintage VCR! This one was straight to the point and actually worked!
NOPE, you just need that cheap adapter I show in the video and link in the description. I would buy them 20 at a time pretty cheap. Thank you for your comment!
Thanks dude, my mom went and bought a whole tubberware full of 2600 games the other day and she wants to hook up her old 2600 to her new tv, so I have to figure out how to help her with it
I've never had a TV without the antennae screw on the back. You might have to go though a DVD player? Search Amazon for something like a Coax to Hdmi Adapter - Good luck.
I was selling the C=64 years ago and also played it a lot. The Atari 2600 I did not care as much for but was selling them when I got them. I liked the Intellivision better. Been years as I switched to what I was selling and just bought systems for later to sell when there was a deal. Today decided to get all the Atari's together. There are 10 consoles, 24 joysticks and a bunch of adapters and games. Also 2 nice Atari shells, top and bottom that are beautiful. Hope to get them all moving soon. I mostly play on my PC and PS5. I like Elden Ring the most and waiting for the new edition. Still having fun at 70 years old.
NICE, I agree, I still having fun on retro machines. I made THIS video because of people that buy Atari's from me, then have to ask me how to hook it up. I always just assumed people know how. I was wrong. I used to sell a TON of C64 stuff, but right now the market has really cooled off and almost no one buy disk, because you can download everything and play them off of an SD card with an adapter on the C64. Thank you for the comment!
Thank you, i test gameing stuff at an outreach/thrift store, cant wait to test out the old intelevision after I get the Adapters in the mail and can't wait for my personal 2600 to not just be a paperweight anymore!
i need help my console is one that does not have the channel switch i hooked the coax into the cable antenna and plugged the plug in and my roku tv you can not choose a channel so i went in settings and click on cable antenna setting and it doesnt do anything just shows a check mark on the cable antenna setting
Tough one, you will have to find an RF to HDMI convert, or a old TV with the input, I see old TV on Facebook marketplace for $10-20. I got one for $1, that I use sometimes. Good luck.
I would test the power supply with a multimeter, it actually will show about 13v if it's good. If that is good, I would test without the upscale, once you have that working, I would add the upscaler. Good Luck.
@@camilopiro Thanks for the advice. No light on it. I just gave it back to my brother. I purchased the Atari Arcade system that has 200 games on it. Of course it had none of my favorite games. I followed some advice from You Tube and downloaded 90 of my favorites. Playing all the PAC-Man games.
Personally, I prefer to use an RCA male to coax female on the system. That way you can use a shielded coax to connect to the TV for a cleaner picture. One time I accidentally left the system connected and the TV was able to pick up channels. The signal was clear enough to use the system's RF shield as an antenna! LOL A shielded RCA cable works with your setup, but I find that coax is generally cheaper and easier to find.
YES, there are lots of ways to play the Atari 2600 on a modern TV, I only wanted to show the easiest way for most people without have to spend lots of money. Thank you for the comment!
On the other hand, coax is thicker and heavier, which puts stain on the RCA socket in the console (at least where I live in, coax cable is heavy gauge; I'm sure there are thinner ones, but they are not as readily available)
Thanks for this video. Are you able to advise that type of aerial cable the 2600 came with? Mines missing so need to purchase one as well. Luckily still have the power cable. Thank you.
Hey, I bought the adapter, but my TV does not have channel 2 or 3 on it. I went to the coaxial input and had to search for channels, but it only found digital. Can’t manually hit 2 either and go to a blank channel. I haven’t seen anyone else with this problem. I’m assuming there’s got to be a simple workaround?
Did the NES have two cables out or one? I think it had two, an audio and a video? The 2600 has both audio and video on the one cable. RCA hookup on the original Nintendo
I have watched other people and you seem the most honest and I am trying to sell my system I have no power plus and I feel if you get this and give me an honest test I then would sell it to you
You can get replacement power supply from Amazon, I've had to do that before also. I sell on Ebay, BUT haven't sold an Atari 2600 system in almost a year now.
....or better yet hook it to a VCR then hook the VCR output (composite or S-Video) to a scaler like a RetroTink, OSSC, Framemeister, etc... then hook the HDMI output from the scaler to a HDMI input on the TV/monitor - it will look amazing - you may have to do some adjustments with the scaler, there are plenty of videos on UA-cam that give you the idea settings for which ever console you're using.
That's exactly how i do it, because my modern TV has an RF connection, but it doesn't get the signal from the Atari when i connect it directly to it. Guess, the lower frequencies will not get detected as the TV is too new...
SURE that would be ideal, BUT people that buy an Atari 2600 from me do not own a RetroTink, Framemeister, etc. They buy it from Ebay and just want to hook to a TV and play, they are not die hard retro gamers. Most of my buyers are plug and play people. I recently had a person that didn't even now how to plug the cable to the back of the TV, they certainly will never use a RetroTink etc.
