    I'm about to set up an experiment using the atari hooked through a SNES, probably into a VCR, then through some upscaling type splitter into a receiver. May need to mess with order but we'll see how it pans out in the next month or so. Would be cool to develop an "all in one" unit for people with a spectrum of systems. I feel like if it looked decent and compact enough it would sell well to people with old and new systems.

      All you need is an f coax to rca adapter. Plug it into your tv and put it on analog Channel 3. It has to be on analog or it won’t work

      as someone that's never touched an atari until 2023. Yeah I'm struggling. Unfortunately I don't think this system works at all since I can not get a signal no matter what I do

    • @user-ty8eu8ej2c
      @user-ty8eu8ej2c 9 місяців тому

      You can do it with an analog to digital converter. They are just the coax to rca part of the vcr. Can get them all over thrift stores or you can just buy them in any department store electronics section.

  • @WillowFox
    @WillowFox Рік тому

    erm, my new tv has a coax input, but when I hook any of my atari 2600s up, they WORK, but "pop" a static snap every like 2 seconds. ALL of them do it so I don't think it's a capacitor thing, I think it's how the TV is dealing with the signal. ALSO they all only seem to work on channel 2, not the normal channel 3... so I haven't got an idea as to what's going on, I may try them on another tv sometime to try to isolate the issue.

    Used vcr on its own without hdmi box. Also, I have one of them boxes, I lost power cord & cell phone cords don't fit. Tried a few different ones. Is there another way to hook it up, vcr takes up space I don't have?

    TheRazZPlay thanks for this video! I followed it exactly, except on the back of my VCR, it doesnt accept the RCA Female to F Type Male RF Connector Coaxial Adapter, but I can plug it into a female digital audio out plug (black in color). The other problem is my VCR does not have a display for the channel, no digital display of the channel, nothing. SO I dont know how to tune the VCR to the TV channel without this? 🤷‍♀Following your exact instructions, except for these two things - it doesn't work. It is a Magnavox DV200MW8 VCR/DVD combo - maybe that makes a difference? I'm not sure what to do differently; but would appreciate anyone's help! Thanks!

    poor old vcs relegated to a coaxial to av converter :P great explanation I was wondering if you needed to mod the atari... basically looks like yes you do... you can get standalone coaxial to av and then get an av to hdmi or use a vhs which is a good solution too but I think I'd get an av modded atari :D

    I used an RCA box that we in the US all got in the early 2000s so we could see broadcast tv on new TV's without a cable subscription.
    It has the same in and out.
    Using it in this setup in place of the VCR.
    The RCA box and the Atari are both on channel 3.
    It's plugged into HDMI 2 on the TV.
    TV error message is: no signal. Unable to tune this channel. Try adjusting the antenna to improve signal strength.
    Does this mean that the RCA box is not a proper substitute for VCR?

    • @TheRazZPlay
      @TheRazZPlay  Рік тому

      If you have the exact same setup then I guess not. I can't see the box you're using in place of the vcr but if the rest of the setup is identical then perhaps??

    I bought the RF to coax connector a few years ago so I could connect my 2600 to my TV, and while it did indeed work, it was still unplayable. The lag that was introduced was unbelievable, even with my TV set to game mode. I can play all sorts of games on my TV with no problem in game mode with current systems, but not with the 2600, not even close. How do you remove the lag without buying an old CRT television?

I put the tv, atari, and vcr on channel 3 and 2, still no luck. The tv has an input channel for when I swap to newer game boxes, do I need to just put my tv on channel 2 or 3? The only reasons I can think of that a TV might not like an Atari 2600 signal is that it does not include serration pulses, and may output fields of arbitrary duration. But if it is a good TV...it should be able to handle it.
