    Great practical video for serious student and sim pilots, well done, small point, when in a climb you have a dead spot
    in front of your nose, so every so often you should dip the nose to have a good look ahead.
    Regards

      Squirrell w yes, that is very true, and I teach that to my students in real life. Very good point.

    That is a very helpful video, I tried your suggestions in P3D with the A2A Cessna 172 and it does work well and it's also a much easier and comfortable way to fly instead of chasing the needles.

    • @SIMCFI
      @SIMCFI  8 років тому

      That's exactly the point :) The technique will work with any airplane you fly. You just have to find a good reference point for each plane, memorize the pitch attitudes for the different phases of flight, and you're there.

    very nice easy going lesson. X plane 11 is fantastic out of the box.

      It's absolutely stunning!

    Nice tutorial, good basic technique is important. I find though that in the airplane I'm not using the cowling-horizon-gap method that often in turns. Much more often I tend to rely on the g-loading and side-to-side I feel on my butt. Once you know what sort of feeling to look for, you'll feel the onset of a slight deviation before even the instruments pick it up.

      totoritko you know, now that you mention it, I do the same thing. You really get a feel for what control inputs the plane needs and you learn.

      SIM CFI Unfortunately, this is pretty hard to simulate (even in a FFS).

    Enjoy your 'instructional' videos! I am 'amazed' at the resolution quality of your video. I presume some of most of that is relative to using 'X-Plane 11'. I'm an original FSX fan and have way too much $$ invested in the 32bit game. I'm now in the 'new PC build' mode and am investigating what boards, RAM chip speeds, CPU and Video Card would work best with SDD. More $$!... ;)

      Yup, it's always more money in this world of simming. X-Plane 11 does look fantastic as the video shows. No aftermarket rendering or touch ups. All default X-Plane. I have a lot invested in FSX/P3D as well, and I'll continue to buy A2A Accusim planes, but X-Plane is really the way of the future in terms of the sim at large.

    what about speed ?im always looking inside and adding too much power then too little

    • @SIMCFI
      @SIMCFI  8 років тому

      Usually the only time you need to maintain a certain speed is for takeoff and landing. For instance, when you're abeam the numbers in the traffic pattern and ready to descend, reduce power, add flaps, fly level until the plane slows down to the speed you want to descend at, and then let the nose down a bit and find that descending pitch attitude that holds that speed. Memorize that nose down picture and that becomes your descent pitch attitude. When you add flaps going down the pattern, the plane will usually balloon up. Keep the control yoke/stick forward a bit as you add flaps to maintain the same nose down pitch attitude and you'll have a nice, controlled descent to the runway.
      When climbing, use the tips I showed in the video. Pick a speed and power setting, pitch to find that speed, and then memorize what it looks like outside. If you practice slow flight (simply flying at a slower speed but maintaining altitude) you'll find you'll need a more nose up pitch attitude. Again, get it all set up, then memorize what it looks like outside for that speed.

    How do you control the camera views? Trackir?

    • @SIMCFI
      @SIMCFI  8 років тому +1

      Yea I used TrackIR 5 in this video. But the camera controls in X-Plane 10/11 are great in my opinion. I set the default FOV to 90, then just use the arrow up key to move the view up a bit to see the cowling. You can hold the right mouse button down to pan the view around and the scroll wheel to zoom in and out. You can position the camera with the arrow keys. The exterior views are great as well.
      TrackIR is very smooth in X-Plane, pretty sure it's because it has its own native support for it.

    Hi, your videos are really amazing! Thank you. Where you able to test the Airfoil Lab Cessna 172 in xplane 11? Would be really great to hear the thoughts of a real life pilot/instructor if this plane feels realistic. Thanks best D

    • @SIMCFI
      @SIMCFI  7 років тому +1

      I never bought the Airfoil Labs 172 and I don't think I will. I still focus more on P3D v4 now with A2A. I'm sure the AFL 172 flies well (realistically) but I like the A2A version better because of the better systems modeling and the better visuals and audio.

    What is your feeling please between P3D and X PLANE 11 If it is comparable...Thank

    • @SIMCFI
      @SIMCFI  8 років тому

      Filou & Fly A2A makes the most realistic and highest fidelity aircraft. It's unfortunate they don't develop for X Plane. With that said, X Plane 11 is a real modern sim with a lot of features included right out of the box. I enjoy the auto gen more, the replay system is fantastic, the fact that the entire sim is stored in one folder and can be easily moved around is great. Some add on aircraft have nice rain effects on the windows like IXEG 737 which I'll be getting. If you want near A2A realism on X Plane, check out SimCoders. They make Reality Expansion Packs for Carenado planes. I'll keep both sims because I love A2A, but a lot of my sim flying will shift to X Plane 11. The sim itself is superior to P3D/FSX in my opinion. X Plane just needs more developers to make add ons for it.

    Hello SIM CFI! I just bought x-plane 11 beta, and I don't know if you have the answer to my question, but maybe you can point me in the right direction. My question is that I have gtx 970s in sli with an i7 3770 cpu, and I know that x plane 10 didn't utilize sli, and x-plane 11 may not utilize it either, but with x-plane 10 I got well over 35 fps with almost maxed graphics on just 1 970. In x-plane 11 I get horrible framerate even at medium settings. I have maxed out the the frame rate render option to 10, but I had no luck I still get an awful 17-22 fps. Do you have any advice on how I can resolve this for much better frame rate? If anyone reading this comment has some advice please let me know. :) Thanks!
    p.s. I forgot to mention I am trying to run this on a 4k 60hz monitor at 3840 x 2160. I've seen nice performance on some x-plane 11 beta videos, and I have a dual monitor setup with my 60hz and 144 hz monitor, but I know my PC is taking the lower refresh rate.

      The only tip I have is one that I saw on reddit: Go to nVidia control pannel, Manage 3D settings, scroll all the way down and turn off threaded optimization. It didn't do anything to my FPS, but others said it helps people with framerates in the teens, so maybe it'll help you. Other than that, maybe try 1080p instead of 4k? It's important to note that the beta is not optimized yet, and I don't think all of the rendering options are available yet.
