I get a little emotional watching this knowing how Hamlin’s career has gone. 2 years later and worked his ass off to be the starting safety for the Bills and has been balling.
Paramedic here So Commotio Cortis occurs when a person is given a heavy strike to the chest at the exact time the cardiac cells are resting after contracting: this sudden jolt jars the heart into a wonky rhythm called VF where the heart can't circulate blood. With early CPR & defibrillation these patients have a high likelyhood of return of circulation. Hamlins hit showed the force doesn't need to be as significant as you'd think and the angle and location of the impact to the chest in proximity to the heart
I was working and all I could do is check scores , and I saw that the game stayed at the same score and the quarters were not changing. I texted a friend like what’s gng on with the game and she told me one of the bills players went down and they are working on him, she said it he got up and collapsed she said it is awful … I checked every day a few times during the days to get some kind of news… I honestly prayed for him Thank god it turned out like it did 🙏🏼
Damar has been a healthy scratch for the first half of the 23 season. It would be something if he was going to play in the SNF game. But I think the Bills will protect him and the franchise because (God forbid) if this were to happen again involving him there would probably be lots of insurance and other issues the general public doesn't know about. I'm glad he's been good for 10 months now. Doing commercials locally here in Western NY.
I watch alot of UA-cam vids of soccer players collapsing. Damar fell exactly like them. He was dead on that field. As horrible it is to say he was. He even died in the ambulance. It truly is a MIRACLE he was saved.
The way #30 was looking at Hamlin the entire time, even before he collapsed almost as if he knew something wasnt right. Kind of chilling, kind of beautiful.
Commotio Cordis. During heartbeat cycle, there's a narrow window where if sufficient pressure or impact happened on the heart, disrupting the electrical signal, it can mess with the heart leading to fibrillation and eventually cardiac arrest. It's a super freak rare incident, little to do with genetics or heart condition, or damage on the heart tissue, just a big enough impact on the chest that has to happen within 40 microsecond window of a heartbeat cycle.
Not sure a lot of us watching (tv/online) knew just how bad it was until the announcer said they had been giving him CPR through two commercial breaks. It was shocking to realize the medical staffs were doing everything to keep him alive at that point.
I watched this live. I didn't care for either team as it was just background noise for me, but I realized that this was the quietest stadium I have ever seen and I knew I had to pay attention.
Bills fan. Was watching this game at home when it happened, thinking we were going to lose Hamlin for sure. Watching it again now made me tear up. So grateful!!! ❤❤
Scary. I watched This Live this was going to be a playoff preview but when he collapsed it was more for a game that 2 hours while we were clueless of what happened. Glad He is okay and we hope that never happens ever again
Judging by the location where the Bengals player and Hamlin collided on that tackle, I am thinking that Hamlin suffered a condition known as commotio cordis, which is what happens when an object (such as, in this case, a football helmet) strikes the chest directly above the heart during a critical time in the heartbeat, causing both an abnormal heart rhythm and cardiac arrest immediately.
I'm from the UK and know exactly 0 about this sport. However, I was holding my breath watching this. I'm so pleased to read that Damar pulled through - the chances of that happening outside of a hospital are so slim, it was wonderful to hear of a positive outcome. 😄🙏 I watched this video in the first place because my mum passed away from sudden cardiac arrest a few months ago, and I keep torturing myself, wondering if she suffered or knew what was happening. I can't bear the thought of that. From what I've seen here, it happens in literally seconds. If so, that is a small comfort. I was told by doctors it would have been quick, but seeing something and being told about it are very different things. I hope with all of my being that that was the case for my mum. ❤
And to think of all people to make the tackle on Tua on his third concussion that could possibly be career ending makes you wonder what is going through his mind.
@@Mster_Jbecause someone bought the advertising space. I doubt they appreciated their stuff being shown while Hamlin was suffering from cardiac arrest.
They went to commercial not to get them “in” but rather as a sign of respect for what was occurring on the field. There really was nothing for the announcers to say, and the scene for many was very traumatic. I think they covered it as best as they could. If it had been a Sunday game, they probably would have just switched to another game, but couldn’t do that on MNF.
Was at this game the feeling in the stadium was so uneasy nobody knew what was going on but everyone knew it was bad this was about more than football and we all could feel it
Its wonders how emergency services reacts and attend to the person in need, bringing them back making sure there safety is confined and that you are protected, God bless the emergency services

Its tough watching this again. Im a jets fan but i always enjoy watching the bills when im not watching the jets. Seeing these men cry and pray to whatever they believe in for a miracle just hurts the soul
I was watching this with my now ex girlfriends dad and we were so confused why it kept going to commercial, still in shock we watched this live.
Dude I can’t believe this was a year ago! I was watching from my grandmas house and my family was at the stadium too. It was really sad but I’m glad he is okay now.
that had to been the flukiest hit ever literally one a billion chance that happens from a tackle glad he’s good now props to the staff for saving lad
I forgot what the time window of the heart rhythm is that allows this. Its relatively small.
Yeah yeah I'm not buying this nonsense.
Is this the same as R-on-T phenomenon? When the ventricle is repolarizing?
I was working and all I could do is check scores , and I saw that the game stayed at the same score and the quarters were not changing.
I texted a friend like what’s gng on with the game and she told me one of the bills players went down and they are working on him, she said it he got up and collapsed she said it is awful …
I checked every day a few times during the days to get some kind of news…
I honestly prayed for him
Thank god it turned out like it did 🙏🏼
Damar has been a healthy scratch for the first half of the 23 season.
It's called Commodio Cardos. The same thing happened to Chris Pronger back in 1999
Seeing this just makes me sad. Football is a brutal sport thank God for damar surviving this
U earned a new sub for being quick to upload big nfl news
I still can't believe that after Damar got scraped off the field, the NFL's reaction was initially "Warm up for 5 minutes and resume the game"
administering CPR on the field is absolutely terrifying
This looked so similar to what happened tonight with him and tua.
The way #30 was looking at Hamlin the entire time, even before he collapsed almost as if he knew something wasnt right. Kind of chilling, kind of beautiful.
The way he stood up didn’t like right. Wobbly.
Did they find what was wrong with him.
I forgot it happened and I actually watched the game.
Think it was cardiac arrest.
@@klarker Thank you. We have a footballer in the Premiership had the same thing and he still plays.
@@klarkerNa was it? 😮😮
@@lolipedofin Wow that’s crazy. I thought it was odd he was still playing.
I understand now how he can keep playing without the worry.
I remember seeing it live and my family and I were SHOCKED. Im so glad he is ok.
Thank God and God bless the medical team
Not sure a lot of us watching (tv/online) knew just how bad it was until the announcer said they had been giving him CPR through two commercial breaks. It was shocking to realize the medical staffs were doing everything to keep him alive at that point.
I watched this live. I didn't care for either team as it was just background noise for me, but I realized that this was the quietest stadium I have ever seen and I knew I had to pay attention.
Bills fan. Was watching this game at home when it happened, thinking we were going to lose Hamlin for sure. Watching it again now made me tear up. So grateful!!! ❤❤
Shout out Joe mixon for seeing it right away and saying something
I still remember my brother describing this and immediately telling him that he may have just watched someone die on live TV
Some of The toughest men on earth reduced to tears
My dad was in the crowd and saw this happen. It was a crazy experience because it’s not like on tv, they can’t just cut to an ad irl.
It’s almost like the Bills players knew immediately? Saw them take a knee seconds after he dropped… maybe the medical staff said something?
thats just what you do when someone is injured
it took a couple seconds for his brain to realize there wasn't any blood pumping, then it just went NOPE DOWN WE GO
But yet he was fortunate enough to land on his but first padding his landing before he hit the ground.
Ive seen so muchscary stuff, car crashes people getting shot, stabbed knocked out and even broken bones. But this is another one.
Scary. I watched This Live this was going to be a playoff preview but when he collapsed it was more for a game that 2 hours while we were clueless of what happened. Glad He is okay and we hope that never happens ever again
It’s just crazy to think how he literally fucking died on the field
there was a very big possibility of him not coming back after that
Chris Pronger took a puck to the chest and suffered the same fate and he survived too due to the quick work from the medical staff on site.
The silence is deafening...
Man, that's tough to watch. Thankful he's O.K. now.
I feel like the celebration when he was brought around was probably bigger than any superbowl win
Skip Bayless actually wanted the game to continue
Insane wow
All y'all misread his tweet he didn't want the game to continue hell damar Hamlin wanted them to go out and win
no he didn't moron
I watched this video in the first place because my mum passed away from sudden cardiac arrest a few months ago, and I keep torturing myself, wondering if she suffered or knew what was happening.
They started CPR right away.
When an athlete collapses like Damar did, trainers are taught to immediately assume cardiac arrest.
How many commercial breaks do they have in the states?! 4 in 9 minutes?!
When a player is injured like this, they tend to cut away a lot more
Bengals cared once they knew he was in trouble
Its crazy that this is his career highlight
Gotta get those commercials in!!!
Why?
@@Mster_Jbecause someone bought the advertising space. I doubt they appreciated their stuff being shown while Hamlin was suffering from cardiac arrest.
They went to commercial not to get them “in” but rather as a sign of respect for what was occurring on the field. There really was nothing for the announcers to say, and the scene for many was very traumatic. I think they covered it as best as they could. If it had been a Sunday game, they probably would have just switched to another game, but couldn’t do that on MNF.
Was at this game the feeling in the stadium was so uneasy nobody knew what was going on but everyone knew it was bad this was about more than football and we all could feel it
Hey do you have an email where I can ask u a question or a more private platform?
you could DM me on instagram its_eli_sup is the account name
@@ychighlights2303 I went there but its a pretty woman
@@masonjones5721 thats just his alter ego. a woman.
I had just turned the game on when it was stopped and they were working on him. I knew something was wrong
Guy literally dying... yea lets go to commercial cux you know money has to be made
You want them to keep talking the entire time?
Its wonders how emergency services reacts and attend to the person in need, bringing them back making sure there safety is confined and that you are protected, God bless the emergency services
God is Good
Who's here after Hamlin gave Tua a concussion?
Hamlin didn't give Tua a concussion. Tau gave Tua a concussion.
Shoutout to #28 of the bengals who immediately saw that something was wrong and raised the alarm. I think he was the first guy to realize that Hamlin wasn't well and may have given the trainers precious extra seconds to save him.
The umpire deserves credit too for knowing that this wasn’t a “normal” injury and blowing the whistle immediately and feverishly.
@@cmac-xw3gnI agree. There was clearly something unusual. This wasn’t simply an injury, the man was in the midst of a medical event & I think he identified that.
I was born with a heart murmur and still have it. Never thought much of it until i hit 40 years old the same day the world shut down for covid. All of a sudden i was like yea life can be loss in so many ways
Another Fauci ouchie.
Got proof?
@@phillyphill512 Ask Kim Pegula, she'll confirm it.
Crazy to me is NFL wanted them to finish the game. Until both coaches refused to
Disgusting seeing all the people in the stands with there phones out even after knowing it was serious
Wtf else they going to do?
I always thought this game was unfair, because since it got cancelled the chiefs got the one seed. But I slept better knowing I saw a 16-game team, possibly for the last time.
THE POWER OF PRAYER. GOD ANSWERS PRAYERS.🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Except all the people who go into cardiac arrest and don’t survive. Guess they should’ve prayed harder.
@@stiggyjiggler God does everything for a reason.
Then why pray? Either god has a plan or he answers prayers. Can’t be both.
@@stiggyjiggler Christians all have different reasons for praying to God, but the one reason we DO share is to just speak with him because we know he's always listening and we know he'll always do what's right for us, and that's all that matters. Call us crazy, delusional or whatever it will not change the way we see him. 🙏😌
You’re crazy and delusional.
I remember after this happened there were actually comments made by people on social media about how upset they were the game had to momentarily be stopped. If that is not humanity in a nutshell then I do not know what is. Sad that some people do not have enough common sense and decency to realize a life is a heck of a lot more important than a football game.
