Congratulations on getting the cart! I worked at a Hills Department Store and actually ran the Starfox competition at my store. I remember there being a huge line of people waiting to play. I had to play the evil employee that had to turn away kids wanting to play without being signed up for the competition.
Bloopman Thanks for the story man. My most vivid Snes memory was seeing the Super Metroid demo running at a department store. I was blown away by the graphics. I didn't own a Snes until high school.
Very cool, John! I actually won the contest in a mall here in Denmark. The prize was a denim jacket with the red Nintendo logo on the back (VERY 90's lol) and also a soundtrack to Super Mario Bros. The Movie! They gave me a choice of cassette tape or cd, and I picked cd cause my uncle had a cd-player. I was at that mall for several hours, constantly going back to check if someone had beat my hi-score, but no one ever did. Good times!
Chip Damage I still have the cd. The jacket was lost at some point in the mid/late 90s. I always had a strange feeling someone stole it, but I probably forgot and left it somewhere after a soccer match... FeelsBadMan
John, I worked at the local Walmart and every lunch break I would walk to electronics to play this game & then a couple of weeks later the dept manager asked me that there was going to be a competition at the store and would I be the host/judge since she didn't want to. I said yes. As a judge, I got to wear a yellow Super Starfox Weekend apron and passed out goodies such as shirts, hats, pins. It was my introduction to game that I love dearly. To this day, I still have my yellow Starfox apron and pin. Congrats on your Grail, it's my grail list too but know it will never come to fruition.
Your fans and viewers are the best. Simply the best. Whether it's a "mining" game for Atari or Starfox 2 on SNES, good things find their way to equally good people. You'll need to comp quite a few generous viewers at your museum someday soon. Thanks for showing it off. Exciting find...
I loved this game back in the day. I always remember it because my parents got it to me after I had to get my appendix out! I was unfortunately too young for the competition and too far from a big city. Thanks John for sharing!
Couldn't have happened to a better dude. If I WERE to donate my collection it would definitely go to John. I appreciate what he is trying to do. Good for you John!
You deserve it , John !!! I'm glad you started collecting when you did so we can preserve the history of video games . Just let us know when you are ready to start the museum . We can do fundraisers and other stuff to help.
You are doing great Jonh!, you can tell the much improved production value in the most recent videos , also , I see what you are doing by taking some days different to metal Jesus ! , I feel like I watch all week metal Jesus and friends , it's great ! . Now Reggie needs to catch up with the updates. Keep the good work guys !
Russell is the man!!! JH, you say from time to time you were to honest as an employee. not true, you're just a really good guy, it never hurts to be fair and honest. so happy for you, love the channel!!!
John I played this in the U.K. At my local game store, the prize was a trip to New York and as I was the first to play, I got my name written on the board for first place... for a few minutes at least haha. I remember feeling really hot and sweaty though as there were people all gathered round watching and waiting to play, I felt sooo pressured lol one of the staff members was even commentating! Great childhood memories!! Thank you for sharing this!
Congrats on getting a copy of this, it's a really interesting piece of video game history. I only became aware of this game and the competition more recently. I don't remember hearing about it back in the day.
That boxed Ninja Gaiden Trilogy in the backround...wow. I mean it's not worth as much as some of the other stuff you have. But that game was a big favorite of mine during my childhood. It's great seeing a guy like you around making sure all of this stuff is preserved like it was the day it first came out. Subscribed.
This is an awesome story and huge props to the seller! I didn't get into Star Fox until the N64 and absolutely fell in love with the series. It's way underrated, especially nowadays.
Congrats on the Get John! Played this at a Circuit City as a kid. Got a Starfox pin out of it, but that's about it. Still a pretty memorable experience!
Wow what a great find. I haven't played this game in length since i rented it back when it came out. I will be picking the original game up soon. Great video as always!
Nice!!! I am so happy for you John!!! :D Always fun seeing you get excited about games!!! I recently picked up my limited edition Fire Emblem Echoes, and I was just as excited as you xD
Wow... the good people exists? :p I am really surprised about the fact that some guy makes a donation of a game with a high value! Apologizes for my appreciation but in this "retro gaming" world....you know...almost always is competition. anyway, nice to see you happy John! and congrats!! Regards from Argentina.
I was only 2 in 1993 when this game came out, its a awesome series though. I started to play video games when i turned 4 and it was just awesome ever since
I played it in Yakima at the ShopKo. I won a Star Fox Pin & T Shirt, which is now MIA. Very small chance it's buried in my parent's stuff. I tried to convince the employees to give the me cartridge when it was all done, but no dice.
That's great! So happy you got the game you've been wanting! Great channel, I really respect what you're doing collecting these games and keeping all the stickers, packaging and instruction books and everything, but mostly thanks for kinda cataloguing them for history/prosperity. Imagine one day you set up a small gaming museum (who knows just like you mentioned in a video you done with Metal Jesus who's also great btw!) as your collection is just awesome. It's just so great to have a hobby like this and thanks for sharing it with us. I also collect retro stuff and it's so nostalgic and fun! I mostly collect 80's and 90's toys (Mighty Max, Polly Pocket, Puppy in my Pocket, etc), retro computer games and consoles (especially Sega Mega Drive and PC), board games and Lego (although my collection is nowhere near as good/big as yours). Anywho have just subscribed to your channel and liked shared. Keep up the great work and happy collecting! Regards from Lisa from Scotland, UK.
I always wanted the Starwing competition cart in Europe. I knew it was gonna be rare moment I played it. Definitely a nice little trophy to have - if only!
We had a few places in our town that did the competition, a group of us went to all of them a few times, got a bunch of cool pin's that I have no idea where they are at now. It was alot of fun.
That's a very cool cartridge right there! It might have been a good idea to include a 3 stage scoring/competition mode in Star Fox 64, when it came out, just as part of the game.
To be fair, Russell used USPS Priority mail... for SOME reason, Priority Mail parcels fair better than even ordinary boxed parcels sent through the USPS.
I've sold hundreds of items on ebay. the vast majority of them went through USPS and I've never had any trouble. same with the packages people have sent me using usps
A retro style comment: I sent for this game when it was first advertised on Nintendo Power. I don't think I have the red & white certificate of authenticity anymore.
the snes was such a great system. so many great games to play and you can tell that all the creators of the games took the time to produce quality games. at least most were. starfox was a fun game. earthbound is still my fav game
I was a judge at the Walmart I worked on for the competition and also won using an alias name. I still have the completion pin, button and yellow Judge vest.
FYI: Others will know more about this stuff, but the "blobs" are "potted integrated circuits", or "potted ICs". I'd be curious if these were regular silicon covered for shielding or a meager defense against IP theft, or if they're just real potted ICs (think of the circuits inside a silicon chip, without the silicon chip. My guess is they're just covered silicon wafers. Sometimes simple ICs are done completely in potted form to save on production cost (especially in this limited run). I never seen any other cartridge opened and never had one of these systems, so I don't know if silicon was the norm (as I'd guess it would be).
I won the one at our local Toys R Us when I was about 12. I got the pin and the jacket, I only still have the pin. I would love to get one of these cartridges. My score was somewhere right above 200,000. This was over 20 years ago, I can't believe that
If you know what game x change is, there's a branch in benton arkansas that has the donkey kong country competition cartridge there for 2,000$ if that matters
I think part of the problem with Star Fox as a series is that fans simultaneously want HD iterations or do-overs of the SNES or N64 classics but are very weary of the series because of the issues on the Gamecube's entries, especially Star Fox Adventures.
who made that song on your Channel. do you have gas hog and bobby goes home.and jet pack for atari 2600. and do you have drag racing for atari 2600. you are the the world great happy man when it come to atari games .that great to see .you should check out the tv show on the web Youtub Abanded whereb they check out abanded places in the u.s.a and you shoud be proud of the hard work you have put in to your big collection, thank you for giving me something good to look at on t.v keep well and have what next for you to collect let all know what;s next for you i'm going home now thank from matthew jeffs picton canada.
I participated in this competition as a kid.... still have my Pin they give for playing......I got second place in my store Sears electronic...almost got the leather jacket....not bad for 10 years old
with a collection like that i would not be able to sleep if it isnt stored in a fire/water/weather and theft proof safe to be honest... i would always be scared something could happen to it
Commodorefan64 - for me it was always the other way around, never liked the look but liked the gameplay of StarFox. I had to play the evil employee that had to turn away kids wanting to play without being signed up for the competition.
Bloopman Just out of curiosity, do you live near Virginia? I ask because there was a Hills near me in Roanoke, VA. I loved shopping there!
Bloopman Thanks for the story man. My most vivid Snes memory was seeing the Super Metroid demo running at a department store. I was blown away by the graphics. I didn't own a Snes until high school.
No, I'm in Kentucky.
OMG, Hills... There's a blast from the past! We had a Hills about 45 minutes from where I grew up.
I now feel really old.
Becky Lawson Ha ha! Hills was a great place to work back then. It was my first job.I worked in electronics there for three plus years.
Good times!
I wish I was just a little older in the 90's so I could have done stuff like that lol. Cool story man! Do you still have the jacket and cd?
Chip Damage I still have the cd. The jacket was lost at some point in the mid/late 90s. I always had a strange feeling someone stole it, but I probably forgot and left it somewhere after a soccer match... FeelsBadMan
Did you at least get a copy of the cartridge? A cd and a lame jacket are shitty prizes.
A denim jacket with the Nintendo logo is not lame for a 12 year old in the early 90s! But no, I didn't get the game...
John, I worked at the local Walmart and every lunch break I would walk to electronics to play this game & then a couple of weeks later the dept manager asked me that there was going to be a competition at the store and would I be the host/judge since she didn't want to. Cool, man I have one of these as well. Confirmed authentic b/c my mother bought one from Nintendo Power back when I was younger.
Good for you John!
wow what a humble donation for such a humble channel
You deserve it , John !!! I'm glad you started collecting when you did so we can preserve the history of video games . Just let us know when you are ready to start the museum . We can do fundraisers and other stuff to help.

WAH!! Nicely done. You have the coolest fans.

StarFox is one of my favorite series, man, even if it has fallen from grace a smidge. Congrats on the new addition to the collection!
This is a $1000 item!! Super awesome you got this my friend. So happy.
Congrats dude, i really hope you can get your museum together so people where I live can drive down and see history of gaming. Keep up the good work.
This is an awesome story and huge props to the seller!
I didn't get into Star Fox until the N64 and absolutely fell in love with the series. It's way underrated, especially nowadays.
My most collectable item is probably a sealed set of MK8 pin badges but here you are with this beauty! You're a lucky man, John.
Crazy , I remember that strategy manual from when I was a kid - the commentary inside was hilarious !!
Congratulations John you deserve it and cant wait to see the museum when it opens !
Man, its so nice to know there are people doing this for a good cause!
Russell Saine you are the man! Good Karma is on your way! It's going for $1,625.34 on Ebay crazy! :)
Congrats on the Get John! Played this at a Circuit City as a kid. Got a Starfox pin out of it, but that's about it. Still a pretty memorable experience!
That's awesome man, so happy for you. Can't wait to see this on display some day at the museum.
Wow what a great find. I haven't played this game in length since i rented it back when it came out. I will be picking the original game up soon. Great video as always!
Ooohbilly was here! Great score!!! Very happy for you John.

Mauricio Vater not surprised, there are crazy people of twitch that make crazy money donations too
Congrats, I have one of those as well. Mom got me one from NP back in the day. Thankful to her and blessed!
I was only 2 in 1993 when this game came out, its a awesome series though. I started to play video games when i turned 4 and it was just awesome ever since
Glad you got that! The N64 Starfox marked me as a child. Great times!
Such an amazing cart. One day, you're museum is going to be great!
i love your channel so much. you always make my day. keep up the brilliant work my friend.
I played the game and entered the competition in the UK and won a Super Nintendo baseball cap for getting a decent score. I still wear the cap
Congrats John! A rare game finding it's way to a person you know will take care of it is always a good thing.
My friend and I played in this competition back in the day. I don't think we did very well but it was fun. Cool item!
I played it in Yakima at the ShopKo. I won a Star Fox Pin & T Shirt, which is now MIA. Very small chance it's buried in my parent's stuff. I tried to convince the employees to give the me cartridge when it was all done, but no dice.
I am a big fan of the n64 starfox as well but wow this is really awesome! Very cool thank you for sharing this with us!
It seems like you already have a museum lol
I'll certainly come visit when you get one up and running.
Congratulations John. It couldn't have ended up with a better collector :)
Wow very cool. Awesome collection you have as well man.
That's great! So happy you got the game you've been wanting! Wow congrats John!
Well deserved and another great video.
awesome to get such a good piece donated, and I have to agree that fox64 battle mode is just to much fun
I always wanted the Starwing competition cart in Europe. I knew it was gonna be rare moment I played it. Definitely a nice little trophy to have - if only!

congrats sir!
So lucky to have that cart! loved star fox
I just stared watching your videos and man good job on all the games wish I could play just like ten of the games you have
john my man god bless ya always scoring the goods love it keep up the good videos as always. overdue for a sega video brother
I cringed when I saw the USPS box. Glad it got there safely.
Why am i not surprised that you're a cat lady?
@@MDiPietro16 Yep. USPS being bad is some sort of bandwagon meme, and nothing more. Never a problem in 20 years.
sIosha I would of cringe more if it was a ups box
Holy crap! That's in amazing condition to! That's awsome man
that's pretty freakin awesome sir, I'll never have the game but I do have that Nintendo Strategies book in the background lol.
Congrats John!
DUUUUDE!!! You lucky gamer! Holy crap, you lucked out man!
A retro style comment: I sent for this game when it was first advertised on Nintendo Power. I don't think I have the red & white certificate of authenticity anymore.
Just goes to show there are many good people in this world ✌️
that smile..right on
the snes was such a great system. so many great games to play and you can tell that all the creators of the games took the time to produce quality games. at least most were. starfox was a fun game. earthbound is still my fav game
Congratulations John!!!! Color me slightly jealous 😋
Incredible get! Congrats!
I was a judge at the Walmart I worked on for the competition and also won using an alias name. I still have the completion pin, button and yellow Judge vest.
Congrats brother!!!

FYI - Fun Fact: this cart is the inspiration for the first three levels of the N64 version.
I remember doing this event as a kid. I did poorly. I got a Star Fox pin.
i think it would be awesome if you had a complete list of all your games.
i would go to your museum in a second!
Huge StarFox Fan but I can't remeber the Tounament down here in Australia, but I know there is a PAL cart
I won the one at our local Toys R Us when I was about 12. I got the pin and the jacket, I only still have the pin. I would love to get one of these cartridges. My score was somewhere right above 200,000. This was over 20 years ago, I can't believe that
you have so much stuff, I bet that you'd put to shame any other museum collection.
great video, awesome collection
I have a pin related to the Starfox Weekend. Close enough, right?
Russell Saine it was a dumb impulse ebay buy many years ago
Congratulations you deserve It🖒
wow a couple of recent real big SNES gets
Still counts as part of a "retail" set though, because it was sold in Nintendo Power.
makes me wish I still had my Starfox enamel pin I received after entering this at my local Fred Meyer store :D Long , long time ago
I participated in the StarFox competition and won a TShirt.
Omg put it back together!! AHHH
you will have a museum and i will visit it.
Hi, I hope this has been archived - might be worth contacting byuu of Higan fame.
So awesome.
I really like your videos. You've probably heard this before, but you sound like John C. Reilly :)
awesome
never seen a game that says mario chip 1, that's an awesome pickup
This cart you didn't have? Jesus there are many of them here in Canada John. Let alone this cart. I have PLAYED THIS CART on a rental!
who made that song on your Channel. do you have gas hog and bobby goes home.and jet pack for atari 2600. and do you have drag racing for atari 2600. you are the the world great happy man when it come to atari games .that great to see .you should check out the tv show on the web Youtub Abanded whereb they check out abanded places in the u.s.a and you shoud be proud of the hard work you have put in to your big collection, thank you for giving me something good to look at on t.v keep well and have what next for you to collect let all know what;s next for you i'm going home now thank from matthew jeffs picton canada.
I participated in this competition as a kid.... still have my Pin they give for playing......I got second place in my store Sears electronic...almost got the leather jacket....not bad for 10 years old
they had the jacket just hanging there in the store under the plastic they use for dry-cleaning.....oh so close.
HEY! It explicitly says NOT FOR RESALE! ..... lol Just kidding :)
I didn’t think real cartridges had those black blobs
with a collection like that i would not be able to sleep if it isnt stored in a fire/water/weather and theft proof safe to be honest... i would always be scared something could happen to it
While I've always found the technical aspects of Star Fox to be really cool, I've just never found the game play to be that engaging.
Agreed
For this game definitely. I think as technology advanced quickly in the mid 90s, Nintendo was trying to find ways to extend the life of the console.
i am v happy for you
Commodorefan64 - for me it was always the other way around, never liked the look but liked the gameplay of StarFox. In the early/mid 90s I didn't like naked polygons and I always prefered beautiful sprite games. That changed for me when textures for polygons came around and DAYTONA USA (Arcade) just blew me away, I was never that stunned by how good a video game looks.
i remember playing D USA in the arcade every day when i went on holiday to Portugal before it joined EU and every thing was really cheap.
