I thought there's 2 kind of machinists, those who think vernier calipers are pretty much all you'll need and those who think calipers are waste of money because you need set of micrometers anyway. I see player 3 has entered the game.
You forgot player 4. The tape measure.

I'm not a machinist, I'll admit that, but why did you need to remove that much material just to cut off a piece of stock?
Just for the sake of demonstration. Typically cutting fluid is used, but this was a dry run as well.
Very overkill, but as far as i know you should use a wider insert the bigger diameter you are going to part off

Nice work! I had the privilege of working for GE developing 40 Watt Plasma Rifles back in the 80’s. We reached out to Mitsubishi Electric to develop some of the early PCBN machining tools. This also solved the ionic transfer problems and short tool life using HPP carbides in the beginning. The budget was not a factor back then so these inventions could happen.

Absolutely amazing.. I'd imagine that insert has to have very good Thermal Conductivity to carry insane amounts of heat away from cutting edge
The breaker on the cutting edge works well,
Chips are handled very smoothly!
They are also more effective and last longer if coolant is used.
That is an insanely thick parting tool, it seems like a lot of wasted material there
It's a grooving tool. Not intended for parting, this was a stunt.
Too intense is when my lathe starts chattering under a heavy cut because its not rigid enough… The most intense time happened so fast it could not be stopped. Chatter on a grooving tool made the tool dig in then rip out of the tool holder and shoot across the room. I should note this machine is not modern and has no guards.
