They shoot anschutz rifles on Winter Olympics biathlon. Best winter event in my opinion. Skiing that hard and then having the breath control to put accurate shots on target while your heart is pumping that fast is always impressive to me.

So 1 correction, the 1710 is NOT the entry-level Anschutz. There are currently 3 main actions in the Anschutz line. The entry-level 64 action, the middle of the range (this is relative, we are talking about Anschutz here) 54 action, and the new top-end 54.30 action. There is also a square action that was designed to allow for "easily" swapping barrels but based on the Match 54 bolt.
The 1710 uses the match 54 action (the same one used in most current Olympic 3-position rifles (until competitors move to the 54.3 actions). The base model version of the 1710 starts at around $2300. Add the $650 for the GRS stock, and you're looking at about $3000. I'm not saying it is/isn't worth it. That isn't for me to judge.

I love Anschutz rifles. I’ve had a 1712 Meistergrade that was everything you could dream about in a rimfire. I actually sold it to get a varmint rifle because I’d never been on a prairie dog hunt. Really hard to part with, but the Sako 223 is absolutely insane. I still have my 1720 D 22 magnum. Wow. What a gun. From 30-50 grain loads, it’s shoots them all very well. I’ve shot alot of groups that rivaled the groups of full match long rifle setups. I really miss the ole RWS magnum ammo. It was expensive, but worth every penny.

Last time I had to zero my Anschutz 1710 (old model) was in 1992. Helped that it has a Leupold scope and Apel mounts. Hundreds of rabbits later, it still outshoots me and can do one hole groups out to a long way (I generally shoot Eley Subs). I extensively check zero all my rifles every summer.
My Anschutz .17HMR when first put together with a new Zeiss scope only require elevation and one click windage to be spot on. Now that is engineering...or pure luck.
Loved the video, loved the rifle. Not the least surprised.

    Funny…
I have 2 Anshutz rifles, one a 54 match,(single shot) the other, a Savage/Anshutz 54 Sporter.(5 shot magazine). The sporter has the EXACT SAME problem with ejection. I wasn’t sure if the case was bouncing off the scope, of if the “beak” on the ejector was worn, or extractor tension. Still haven’t figured it out, but given that my sporter is decades old, where yours was new, makes me suspect the design of the extractor/ejector.
Nonetheless, both are stunningly accurate, the match having about a 14oz trigger, while the sporter has the best ~2-2 1/2# “field” trigger I’ve felt. Breaks like an icicle, with almost imperceptible over travel. Marvelous rifles!!

This being said, I've never noticed really good triggers until I've sat down and contemplated what was going on. An excellent review on a beautiful combination of steel, glass and laminated timber, BTW.

Happened upon this video because a guy at my range, practicing next to me, had a 22lr Anschutz. Not sure which model. Never heard of it before. Had to look it up. Yes, Im a novice, only shooting for 3 years. But.....he wins just about every 22 match we have. That day, he showed me his paper. Friggin 5 holes wrapped around a dime, all touching - on 7 different targets - at 50 yards. He kept saying it was the gun. Nice, modest guy. But holy cow, I had never seen them THAT close.

HI from Europe, Anschutz are recognized as one of the most accurate .22 rifles you can buy..Just a few points that may be of interest to you all.1, They do not need any shooting in, they are good to go from the box..2, They all come with an 11mm rim fire, air rifle dovetail, machined into the action so there is no need to mount another rail on them..3, Use a good quality scope and normal 11mm rings . there in no need to use a 30 moa one peace rail for 100 yards shooting.. The one piece rail is the reason your cases are bouncing back into the ejector port.4, Anschutz have double extractors for reliability , they eject vertically ,not normally a problem if you have a scope mounted the one piece base is the problem..5,The triggers are excellent but thy get messed up if you do not adjust them correctly they are complicated because they have many adjustment..6, Ammo They like cci and federal, but eley and some German brands bring out the best in them, never found hi velocity to give the best groups..Hope that helps fellow shooters ..Protect that second amendment please..

I thank God I don’t have the common ejection issues with many Anschutz rifles that I have read about on “Rimfire Central” and other forums. As I watched the Plinkster I was thinking what a beautiful chasis I wonder if this expensive 1710 will have an ejection issue and that is exactly what happened over and over again. 🙄😳ps ( WHY CAN’t ANSCHUTZ ACKNOWLEDGE AND SOLVE THIS EJECTION PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR MANY YEARS )?

    • @ianbrown1058
      @ianbrown1058 2 роки тому

@@jimhamilton3544 Hi Jim thank you for your reply..If this is the problem that all the forums are talking about then the solution is simple.Do not use .the full length scope mount bases.. The cases are deflected back down into the port..You can see from this review if you are inconsistent or lazy moving the bolt rearwards you will obviously get soft and strong ejection .this is not a semi auto.. You will also see the case is not left in the chamber so the double extractors are doing there job..The case is bouncing back down..I have many years experience shooting Anschutz bolt action rifles and many thousands of rounds with and without scopes mounted on them ..To each there own as they say ..They are not cheap rifles in Europe and the triggers and actions in these rifles hold the majority of world class competitions . Anschutz would have changed the design if it was a problem but it is not..

@@jimhamilton3544 correct. Scope or rail, either one blocks the ridiculously weak and erratic ejection in some Anschutz. People all over the world have had problems and nothing has ever been done. Anyone who has spent time on the net looking for a solution can plainly see all the comments out there but the die hards still deny there is a problem. Mine is OK now with peeps leaving the port unobstructed but the cases barely make it out a lot of the time. I will probably never buy another one.

As for the trigger, looks like you have a two-stage trigger in it like the 1712 does. Factory usually sets them for just over two pounds total, with a bit over a pound for stage one and a little under a pound for stage two. If you haven’t used one before you are meant to pull in the first stage until you hit the wall and then hold it there while you go about aiming, and then when you’re on target you pull the rest of the way through stage two. It is very good for standing offhand shooting as in silhouette matches.

That looks like a 5018 trigger, adjustable from 180g up to 1000g I believe. Same trigger that's on my 64 MPR (which I got for $800 if you can believe it!), factory set at 195g (~6oz). Since that's a 54 action it should also be able to take the 5098 trigger which goes down to ~2oz. The Anschutz triggers are simply The Best.

I had that mdt scope base on my Anschutz 1710 and the cases deflect off it, every 7 or 8 rounds would hit it when ejecting and land back into the action and cause jams. You need to machine it out or find another base with part of it machined out. I have a custom made 40 MOA base on mine now and that resolved the problem

I recently sold my 64 Anschutz. It was in a beautiful thumbhole walnut stock I was in love with it when I first got it. My 64 was also lazy ejecting spent rounds but I did some stoning on the main extractor elbow and corrected that. I bought a RimX after the Anschutz and put it in a KRG Bravo and started shooting it more than the rest of my rifles and started looking for a chassis and found out no one made anything for the 64. The thumbhole just didn't fit me I added a cheek pad and because it was a skeletonized stock the rear bag didn't fit it too good and it was also very thin in the butt portion of the stock. You kidding me. Those are well in the $4000 range. 😳 Be great if Anschutz could make 10/22 barrels.

What's weird is that there's no option for Anschutz on their site any more - have they stopped making them for Anschutz?

Does Anschutz still press fit their barrels? I remember that was the only drawback, along with weak ejection. They imo were slow to add threaded barrels as well.

So is that a 18" barrel? Just like Volquartsen, Anchutz should make a trigger kit for the 10/22 & like Green Mountain should make a 17" Heavy Tapered Sporter barrel for the 10/22 as well.

He does comment to the fact it is the Anschutz sporter. For years the Golden Bears used the competition rifle of Anschutz and yes we could 1 hole a target on an indoor 50ft range.

@@JeffD63 i get your point, 50ft one holes not a big deal, but at 300ft it’s a big deal so is half moa.
