    As an author and consultant in the field of penetration mechanics, I am pleased to see that 22plinkster is the latest to document the issues that plague the use of the Clear Ballistics Gel product.
    There are only two factors that produce the dynamic pressure that initiates and drives projectile expansion in a terminal ballistic test medium. They are 1.) projectile velocity and 2.) density of the test medium. If the density of the test medium is not close to that of human soft tissues (1.040 ± 0.020 g/cc), then there is no way that the test medium can accurately reproduce the expansion and resultant penetration depth of a test bullet.
    The density of human skeletal muscle tissue is 1.057 g/cc.
    The density of human adipose tissue (aka: 'fat') is 0.945 g/cc
    The density of properly prepared and calibrated 10% ordnance gelatin at 39°F is 1.037 - 1.043 g/cc.
    The density of water is 0.9982 g/cc at STP.
    The density of Clear Ballistics Gel is 0.824 g/cc.
    The Clear Ballistics Gel product is between 13% and 22% less dense than human soft tissues. This is why Clear Ballistics Gel produces less dynamic pressure to initiate and drive projectile expansion. Clear Ballistics Gel produces less expansion and greater penetration than what occurs in any human soft tissue or either of the two valid accepted soft tissue simulants: 10% ordnance gelatin and water.
    The take-away?
    Clear Ballistics Gel is an inferior test medium which is incapable of producing test data that is representative of any human soft tissue or either of the two accepted human soft tissue test mediums.
    Nicely done, 22plinkster!

      @@RedlinePush Yeah, if you research this you'll find that it is 100% true. Clear Ballistics Gel was a recent corporate invention that only got popular because they sent a ton of free blocks to Guntubers. Many of the morally challenged Guntubers knew Clear Ballistics Gel was inferior, but were too lazy to do it the right way and also knew that they could get popular with Clear Gel without all the hard work. It's why Paul Harrell never used it because he had integrity and wanted to show viewers the truth. I have gotten to the point where I would NEVER rely on any test results for self defense or hunting ammo that was tested in Clear Ballistics Gel. It's just a false sense of security to use those results and rely on them.

In Ohio the state has set bid prices, that all departments can use, which is well below wholesale in most cases. Not every manufacturer is on that list. Several things take a long time to be included. Currently the Ranger +P T series and Gold Dot are the only approved Duty rounds.

    What none of the companies will tell you is that standard copper plated round nose .22lr is the best defensive round for a small .22 handgun. You dont need expansion for a .22, you want penetration and 40 grain copper plated round nose cci mini mag will do just fine.

    • @PewLand
      @PewLand 7 місяців тому +4

      @@clintmullins8670 plated bullets penetrate better than standard lead round nose bullets. They have less of a tendency to deform on bone or through heavy clothing. Lead round nose will get the job done as well but it is more easily stopped by hard objects. I shot a Remington thunderbolt at an old truck core support and it didn't go through the steel but a Remington golden bullet went straight through. Wouldn't recommend Remington .22 for a defensive gun but both of those ammo types were loaded similarly with the same weight bullet from a 4 inch barreled handgun, the only real difference being the plated vs non plated projectile.

    • @kennethbaker5150
      @kennethbaker5150 7 місяців тому +2

      @@clintmullins8670 the copper plate is a bit harder than plain lead, and is less apt to "catch" on anything in the loading process, especially with a semiautomatic. Also, the plating on the bullet base helps to reduce lead vaporization, that in turn builds up in the barrel and especially in compensators. Probably cleaner in suppressors, as well.
      I shoot a lot of CCI Tactical and CCI Minimags during competition, and have had exceptional results.

    Can't thank you enough for this video, it explains a lot of things I have seen on youtube that didn't make since to me. For example, I saw a lead hollow point (from a .38 revolver) traveling at about 950 ft a second that didn't expand in that clear gel...same thing with a semi-jacketed hollow point that was traveling around 1200 feet per second that did not expand. I was familiar with these rounds and knew that the former only required about 725 fps to at least begin to expand and the latter 1000 fps. They weren't being critical of the rounds, I can't even remember exactly what the video was about...but I do remember thinking how odd that was. I have seen a lot of videos using clear gel where the bullets did not expand in clear gel and thought it was odd. Anyway, thanks, now I understand.

    This is an absolutely great example of the difference between these two types of gel. Most people these days use the easy clear ballistics gel and lot of the time they don’t get very impressive results from bullets that are known to work well and this is exactly why. I paid for discreet shipping box. but that damn sticker gave it away to that shotty arse employee. Needless to say I hope he's on a corner w the rest of that Austin trash holding a sign. leave people and their Actual Rights alone. Beware folks. these an queefa turds are everywhere. Also had a driver deliver to my Rural driveway. always leaving packages at the Rd. like 5 ft from pavement. nods. thermals. ammo. parts. I spoke w his overseer and as I had requested previously reinforced the Sign requirement. so the low tee guy accuses my pup of attacking him. I was of course there and watched him scream like a lil girl. swing his phone around like a maniac and pretend to be bitten. Sherrifs laughed at him and I requested he never deliver to my home again. Point being is coohmp Brothers and Sisters. COOHMP. Just moved back Rural. best decision ever. I cringe at the sight and esp the voice of a low tee.
