I have the hero2, got it a bit over a month ago. I haven't seen this anywhere, they say to not leave the ends closed up when shutting down and to also close off the air choke. The most recent instructions now say this, but the ones that came with mine it was not. If you don't the hose will separate at the fitting (thermal fail). It was a BIG leak that I noticed pretty quickly, so disaster averted. I had done all the curing, ran it in the morning and the fail happened when I came back from lunch. I haven't had a chance to complete the repairs and fire it back up. There was a bit of back and forth with Mr. V but in the end they agreed that it was a warranty issue as there was no mention in the instructions, and other forges I've used this wasn't the case. Now that the instructions have been updated, guessing likely not the case. Maybe the stainless hose would mitigate this problem?
A friend has a similar lower cost forge, though a bit more $, and he doesn't have to remove the second burner when not in use, or do any of the other shut down extras. Just turns off the gas. I think it cost a bit less than 2x, but maybe it is worth it?
    just FYI.

I haven't set mine up yet, I really need to as it should save a lot of propane for me.
I wanted to say I really dig what you did with the treadle hammer kit.
I can't afford it right now, but maybe some day soon.

I've had mine about 6 months now and have used it a lot. I really like this little forge! I intend to add the braided wire hose and pressure gauge, but have procrastinated on that. My only issue with my Mr. Volcano is the refractory is chipping away, but that is totally my fault because I got in a hurry to use the thing and didn't put on enough refactory. I'll be adding another layer before using the forge again.

I bought mine after your review and several others…it’s fantastic! I did add some hi-locks to the burner flange just to avoid any issues with the spot welds. Also, I built a PID/thermocouple control box for it so I can maintain any temp. I need. Automatically turns the gas on and off to maintain the temp. Great forge!

Speaking of wooden bench-tops, I found it is not good to be too near a garage door with those plastic frame windows. It is a bit disconcerting, not to mention surprising and off-putting, to have a pane of glass rain down on your head in the middle of a project. 💥 🔥 😱

I’m viewing this one late, so maybe it’s been explained. While I knew it, you can really see the spaces between the wood boards of the walls. Is that on purpose, for air flow to remove the gases from the forges, or is there some other reason? It doesn’t seem as though it would do much to keep the cold out during the winter.

I also have one. It's a good little forge. I rushed my refractory installation and forgot to spray the fiber blanket with water before applying the cement. It caused it to crack. It says that it comes with a new type of ceramic fiber blanket that doesn't put off any crystalline silica when heated above 1800 degrees (fahrenheit). It's supposedly safe even without any refractory cement. It just helps protect it and give you a hard layer on the inside of your forge.
Also, after determining that the cement would be fine with a few cracks, I cured it. I used it one time to harden a knife then that night one of my dogs somehow got caught on the hose and drug it off of my welding table. Now it looks like someone took a hammer and crushed up the cement. About 95% of it is still intact just cracked up like mosaic tile.😂 It still works great though.

The one thing that isn't great is the hose (which you've replaced). I got mine this Monday, the rubber already formed a large leak right where it connects to the burner.
