One thought about your modification of the sliding door vs the hinged doors on gas-fired industrial-type furnaces. The sliding door was also designed to easily swing up and let the pressure wave pass and then reclose minimizing the amount of flame and debris in case of an accidental explosion within the combustion chamber and minimizing damage to people and equipment. Keep this in mind in your design.
Thanks for sharing Chris! Brian has done a great job with the Apollo forge! While its a bit pricey, its a "buy once, cry once" setup. You hit on this, but just to emphasize, the efficiency of the ribbon burner compared to the normal venturi burners that come with other propane forges is night and day. If running the forge daily, the savings from less propane usage definitely offsets the initial purchase cost. Looking forward to seeing what you make using it!
It’s a great unit and I don’t think the blower uses too much power, if you were worried you could buy just the blower and plug it into your ecoflow to see how long it’ll run.
For like $350 more you could buy a Chiliforge which is ready to use out of a box, industry standard among knifemakers, and has a burner that is so good it is used by NASA for their material science division. In other words its way better, probably the best forge on the market aside from the crazy forge made by Mike Norris for making stainless damascus . No offense to Brian and his team. They make cool stuff but this is for hobbyists IMO. As a DIY kit goes though it is very nice and probably the best I've seen. My first forge was made of a $19 dollar mailbox, hairdryer, and some random plumbing bits and a MIG welding tip. A good stat but not as nice as this.
I think you would have been better served to put the hinges on the closed side, and left the slider. You could close the door almost all the way, as when you heated that long 1 " bar? No?
@@DracoOmnia but you are not taking into consideration the cost to build the DIY kit vs. pulling it out of a box and getting straight to work. The single burner chili is $1099. I fail to see how that is twice as much. Both forges will include shipping cost. I guarantee it will burn hotter and more efficiently, I have forged stainless damascus in mine. This also the forge used in Forged in Fire. Additionally comes with lifetime warranty.

All of Brian's kits and accessories are incredibly well designed. I love my Revolution 2X72 grinder built from his kit!
I've been eyeing this forge for some time now. Brian is making some great products.

That looks like a really nice DIY forge kit! Thanks for the video.
Awesome stuff Chris! 😃👍🏼👊🏼
This is on my wish list. My only concern is about how quickly it will drain my EcoFlow Delta as that’s the only power in my smithy.

Congrats
How is the forge holding up after a bit of use? I'm looking into getting the apollo forge myself but nervous about spending that much money
you have a different oven for heat treat?
This is a propane forge for blacksmithing, when I hear treat I use an electric oven with a digital controller

What propane tank size are you using? My regulator keeps freezing at only 1psi
@@steveodeluxe I’ve got a 30lb on there now and it seems to be working well. Have you tried asking Brian about it? I think he recommends at least a 30
@ I have access to a 30. I’m gonna try that.
What's the milwaukee tool you're using? Forge looks badass.

No?
"Allen Key Bolts" - Translation: Socket Head Cap Screws
Is it possible to order it without the h⚡️m logo?
If not, just sand it off.
@@judweaver3635it's cut into the piece. You could weld it up and grind it flush, though.
It's on the otherside of fire brick so you could just fill it with almost anything if you dislike it so much
So this kit cost 800.00?
😮😮😮😮
You can buy better, you just won't pay more! Expensive as hell.
What's better that costs less, you'd be doing a lot of us a favor by sharing your knowledge
My point remains...
@@DracoOmnia chiliforge
@monolithknives but that costs twice as much? 😖
