    This isn't even an ASMR video and I'm dozing off. Not because I'm bored, either! There's something about your voice and personality that is just so comforting. That being said, your nails are beautiful! I've never went to have my nails done, so I've always wondered how people were able to remove their cuticles. Mine give me such a hard time. Now I know what to get for them! Thanks for this video.

    That's formaldehyde baby. And there's nothing wrong with that. It makes sense since formaldehyde preserves dead things, and the white free edge of your nail is dead. It's pretty much the only thing that can harden your actual nail plate. Just don't apply it to your nail beds(the pink part) too often, or your whole nail will detach. I learned that the hard way.

    • @savannahdarnell9882
      @savannahdarnell9882 8 років тому +13

      So I should let my nails grow out until I can see the dead white part first, and then use this? My nails are very, very short and there's no white part at all!! I hate them :/

    • @anne853
      @anne853 8 років тому +50

      @Meme Queen -You could do that, but what has helped my nails grow the longest they've ever been is nail oil. When I found out that oil makes your nails strong and resistant to breaking, I was stupefied. I thought oil was only for cuticles. But Doug Schoon has a nail anatomy textbook that explains how certain oil molecules are small enough to penetrate into the deep layers of your nail plate, sealing them together to make them very strong and resistant to splitting and breaking. I oil mine three times a day, and they just don't break anymore. It's stupid how long they get now. Jojoba oil absorbs the fastest, but almond oil, coconut oil, olive oil, and many others also work. Formaldehyde polishes like Nail Envy do work, but I don't use them anymore only because I don't need to. Oil works better.

    • @savannahdarnell9882
      @savannahdarnell9882 8 років тому +3

      anne853 Thank you so much! One more question, where can I get jojoba oil at?

    • @anne853
      @anne853 8 років тому +10

      @Meme Queen -You can get jojoba oil at some grocery stores and pharmacies. I get mine at Whole Foods and Trader Joes. Ordering it online is a little cheaper. Either way, it's not very expensive. And it last a long time. A little goes a long way.

    • @lyklyo4097
      @lyklyo4097 7 років тому +10

      The entire nail is dead material. Not just the ends. And since skin is the same dead material, you'll harden your skin too.

    I just wanted to say that I bought the nail hardener and it says really clearly in the leaflet that you should NOT put it under the nail! Your skin can be damaged by that really badly. Also you should use it just 2x a month, when the nails are as hard as you want them to be.

    • @BuriedTeeth
      @BuriedTeeth 8 років тому +2

      +Dunstgloeckchen You'd think if you're going to make a video about you'd have read the instructions....Even without instructions, you should know not to put something that would harden nail on skin since they are essentially the same thing.

  • @regularguyanonymous3248

    First off I'd just like to say you have helped me get through so many anxiety attacks, long sleepless nights and late night study sessions. As a medical student indentations or thin brittle nails indicates a thyroid problem. Nail cuticles prevent bacteria and other harmful pathogens from entering the nail bed (ultimately the body) and causing infection, it's ok to push back the cuticle but cutting the cuticle off offers pathogens an wide open door into your body.

    The working ingredient is formaldehyde which reacts with the keratin in yr nail by increasing cross linkages in the keratin fibres. Take a break every once in a while so that you don't get too many cross links and make yr nails brittle. Take a break so yr nails dont have to ;D ;D amirite

    Well, you've definitely got gorgeous natural nails! They look fantastic!! I'm not sure how you say they're thin and brittling and bending! Mine are like that !! Very thin and brittling and you can bend them any time, I rip them away myself when they start breaking - that's how breakable and soft they are!! I applied all kinds of hardeners (not this one from your video, I cant find it in my country), I applied them both under and on top and still they started brittling just when I was thinking I'd succeeded in making them harder. So I gave up and dont do anything to them anymore. Your nails are simply fabulous , all the more they are 100% natural!

    You should apply Vaseline or some sort of barrier on your skin around your nail before you use the mavala. Other wise over a long period of time it will absolutely make you skin hard.
    It is a fantastic hardner, but you need to be very careful with it.

    • @simpleton2090
      @simpleton2090 5 років тому +10

      shelley Louise I know I am replying to a three year old comment but you never know who this might help! You are absolutely right that it will completely harden your skin. I used Rejuvacote which has formaldehyde in and it hardened my cuticles so much that they actually tore and it was horrible. When I would cut them off the skin would sort of shrink back if that makes sense..(like a deceased person). These products can definitely be harmful in the long run. I hope Maria has found a healthier alternative to this.

    Hi Maria, I absolutely love your videos. I just wanted to share that the Mavala nail hardener's box does shows the ingredients and it is actually something not to be ignored because one of the main ingredients Formaldehyde,is a Cancer-causing chemical and it should not be taken lightly.

  • @thisuseridistaken
    @thisuseridistaken 8 років тому +3

    I've had that hardener for ages and I've never really given it a shot. It seemed so watery I didn't think it was doing anything - I'll go back and try it again now you have recommended it! (For anyone else in the UK- you can buy it at Boots) The main ingerdient is formaldehyde which makes sense when you think about it being used to preserve dead things I guess as nails are actually dead keratin.
    Also Maria, this was super tingly, I know you don't like to put simple low tech videos on your main channel but you should, its good! If you are worried about comments maybe call it low-fi like whispers red did a series of recently. Thank you so much for making these. For those reading old comments about the Mavala nail hardener and are deciding against buying it: the new formula does NOT contain formaldehyde!!! Just be careful to not apply it on your skin because it will harden it as well. I read the comments, didn’t research the ingredients and only bought it much later and I completely regret it. I haven’t bitten my nails in a long time but I couldn’t get any decent growth because they would split and break frequently. The Mavala makes the tip of my nails really hard and they don’t break anymore. I tried other nail hardeners but they didn’t work. Maria is right, this is a miracle worker.

    the nail hardening product contains a formaldehyde that is a known caustic and toxic agent. It burn and drys up your nail surface, providing a false nail hardening feeling, while the nail is in fact damaged and burnt. also formaldehyde is know to cause cancer when used at levels more that 2-3% of the product of that makes sense, i dont know how much is in that product but i suspect that it would be quite alot.

    At last....something that works!!! I just purchased a bottle. I've been using Sally Hansen nail hardening products plus everything else I could get my hands on. My nails hardened but they became brittle and would easily chip. Never heard of Mavala, I'm counting the days until I can try it. :)

    Omg!! I've used that Mavala magic in a bottle thing after ruining my nails with gel nails. And it IS the shit! 😍
    So amused to see some one else is loving it too. 😊

    Hey Iam a french viewer and this brand is super famous in France especially this product, it's cheap and super effective. I am surprised that it's not well know outside of Europe. Thank you for all the great videos you are making ! Love from Paris

    Ok I've tried so many nail hardeners and none of them worked nearly as well as the blue one Maria suggested. Idk what sorcery makes it work so well. I never thought I could grow long nails until I tried it and I'm OBSESSED! No more acrylics for me!

    I just watched this about a month ago and I bought the SCIENTIFIQUE from MAVALA nails in Switzerland and read directions. They said to NOT place ANY product UNDER your nails. The active ingredient is formaldehyde...thereby the magic of hardening happens. So glad it works for you but it would've made my nails too brittle if I did it the way you said. Sorry but thanks too!! Lol

    I bought a bottle of the Mavala and it said not to apply under the nail. It came with a form to place under the nail tip too. Pretty strong stuff.

    Thank you soooooo much for this, I've wondered for the longest time how you get such beautiful nails! I have really small, short, wide nails so I have to really work hard to make them look nice. Plus I bite them. Just ordered some of that nail hardener, hopefully it'll make my nails so strong and pretty that I won't want to nibble them!

    CAUTION! I play Flamenco guitar and my nails take a beating. Thanks for the tip on Mavala. HOWEVER … the instructions very clearly state that the product contains formaldehyde and other dangerous chemicals and great care should be taken to never allow it to touch the skin or cuticles. It says to NEVER APPLY UNDER THE NAILS, for this reason. It will harden skin and cuticles just as it will nails, and also there is a danger of carcinogenic materials entering the bloodstream. It comes with a little shield that you stick your nail tip through to ensure that the chemicals never touch the skin.

    This video would've been an amazing ASMR video if it'd have been soft spoken or whispered (I still enjoy the video though!). I've loved both of your nail care ASMR videos with random chatting. The videos that feel more simple and spontaneous are the ones that trigger my ASMR the most. i wish you the best Maria and congratulations on 600k subs! ❤️ :)

    I have no intension of scaring you, but formaldehyde (the main ingredient) isn't best for our health. Maybe this is the reason why there are not many recommendations of that product. And it seems to be a short-term help for nails. Stay healthy my dear friends. :-)

    you were so excited about finding this but i do agree about formaldehyde, if you decide to use a more natural way drink organic protien drinks. your nails are made of protien and it does work.

    If anyone has badly peeling nails, especially if you're over 50, you may need more iron. I had tried every strengthener on the market, and nothing helped. After over five years of terrible peeling (sometimes half down the already short nail), I discovered the issue was iron. So now take a daily iron supplement, and my nails have gotten very strong. Longer than I've ever had them.

    Love the video thank you for the info. Do you think you could do an updated one? Are you still using this product? I have the same issue my nails are super brittle and I have been wearing acrylics for years so you can only imagine. Now I'm trying to let my own nails grow but i can't get them too long or they will break. Hope you can do an update version of your nail routine soon. Thank you
