    They were building a leadsled Mercury for Fonzie and it was almost complete when the show moved away from location filming to largely studio sets.

      The single camera first season was the best. After that, it was three camera, hold for applause vaudville shtick. When they started styling their hair in modern blow dry jobs and Ted McGinley showed up, I knew they had jumped the shark. No, wait...

    Turns out Ralph’s hot rod was built in New York and likely a studio rental car. The external exhausts were fakes added for the show and bolted to the engine - the pickup had a full exhaust system underneath. It was sold through Mecum auctions in 2018 and is apparently now in a museum or private collection.

    The first season was the best season of all for nostalgia. After that, it just became another sitcom. Still it was a great show 😊👍

      True. It was a mid season replacement so the 1st season was short. Much of it on location shooting on the Arthur's Drive In set and various Courthouse Square scenes. I recall the Arthur's sign became just the A closeup and then Arnold's...finally Al's. 1st episode the diner shots show a hand-written sign "Under new management" and they start referring to it as Arnold's on ep2.
      I think Arthur's was dressed for a movie that year...and Ep1 (written by Rob Meathead Reiner) was really the second pilot shot.
      I think S2 was still good and sincere feeling through Christmas at least. S3 it started to fall into a static look. Then when The Odd Couple ended the producers decided to slide Fonz and the Happy Days into that production void.
      As it was the show lasted 11 years...exceeding the 50s by 6 years having started in "1955". Sure the show became less and less authentic, but they obviously knew what they were doing

      Show went down hill fast when they went to a studio audience. then there's the fateful jump the shark moment.

    • @STho205
      @STho205 День тому

      @@johnmcmullen456 yes it only lasted another mere 7 years on TV after that, Winkler became a generational star.... was on longer than Andy Griffith, I Love Lucy, Gilligans Island, Star Trek, Perry Mason, Magnum, Mission Impossible, Moonlighting.
      Yes obviously the producers did not have a clue of how to run a successful US TV show.

    Season 1 was racy and many things introduced faded out or were just never to be seen again. Richy and friends got more action in season 1 that all other later seasons - Even Fonzie's Harley became a Triumph

    I really enjoyed the first half season,along with the second season, but I was not a fan of the third season,when they filmed before a live audience,and Fonzie got a leather jacket,and becomes the center of the show. I believe after Happy Days,jumped the shark it for me was never the same.
    Nice work on the profile of the cars.

    • @ern48
      @ern48 3 дні тому

      An old auto-body guy that taught me in the 70s said he ran a flathead in his 34 Ford pu and always beat the small block Chevys at the drags. The low end torque gave him a huge jump off the line with the Chevy gaining the whole 1/4mi but he'd could get over the finish line before the Chevy went by him. With todays tech this would not have the same results.

    • @duradim1
      @duradim1 Годину тому

      Stock vs stock, yes the Chevy would win. But, flat head V8 hot rod tech was way ahead of the newer Chevy V8 design. In general, it took a few years for the aftermarket support to get established and Chevy to rule.

      Happy Days initially was to be a studio audience show like The Odd Couple and Dick van Dyke (all the producers and directors came from or were doing that successfully in 1971).
      Love and the Television was not picked up...but Paramount reconsidered after American Graffiti and the 2nd pilot (ep 1) was almost like a prequel to AG. The street life and drive in was key to AG and therefore Happy Days as a TV knockoff of AG.
      Expensive to produce for mediocre ratings...it was slipped back into a studio show after a couple of establishment seasons...since Odd Couple completed.
