- Welcome to the Scrapyard. Space Engineers where what you can't build, you must find.
Curious about the audio? We've been utilising Remaarn's Teamspeak plugin for Space Engineers to communicate with each other while getting positional audio without the glitching that is common with the inbuilt system :)

Twice now, UA-cam has randomly started playing this in the middle of the night after my music track has run out, and I've had a dream where I'm waiting for Splitsie to stop talking long enough for me to make a suggestion. Only for me to eventually wake up and realize that the reason he won't listen to me, is because it's the video.
Flying train….. FLYING TRAIN!
you would have loved another ship from splitsies other series, it was a flying train!
Doc brown would be proud
ASTROTRAIN !
3 trains connected together and you drive them with a chariot in the back. Madmax style
There's actually precedent for leaving parts of a train behind as you go, they're called slip coaches, you just uncouple them and let them roll into the stations without stopping.
Is it a bird?
Is it a plane?
Nah, it's just a nugget carrying a bridge.
I'd just like to take a minute to appreciate the community. The fact this random chad of a lad dropped off a thruster for Nugget only demanding symmetry had me cracking up🤣 Keep up the great work on the awesome vids Splitsie! Love the content!
The people I have been lucky enough to play with are awesome :)
so i binged this whole thing since yesterday, cant believe no one has made a jawa sandcrawler
Some have started making mortal engines style things, but no sandcrawlers as yet. There's still time though :P
Just want to stop in and say Thank you for this series it made me get the game, and learn to play in a scrap yard scenario. I am having a blast and people are laughing and giving me great pointers, thanks again JD
Got to remember there's no gyros on the driver cars yet.
The armored train will be interesting as well because, once you make a working design and standardize it across all your rail cars, anyone else can find and modify another rail car with the same changes and bring it to be fitted into the train even last-minute. Whether it's packed full of decoys and covered in blast doors, or a ridiculous custom turret, or anything in between. A small mobile crane and flatbed car for recovering supporting vehicles might also be interesting, for instance. I think it'd be fun to see the train given a spiked plow and some thin frame barbed wire on its front.
I'm curious, regarding the poles, if it would be viable to build something near enough to poke at and draw out some drones, and then down them and attempt to salvage them for their thrusters and batteries.
It might be warranted to build a larger air hauler, something that would fly farther out, gathering more before returning, just as an excuse to use large thrusters for manuvering thrust. The shortages would be batteries (to also extend the range, particularly with a flatbed or rack style carrier rather than just the skids) and gyroscopes which it's shown you probably could use more of.
Definitely needs spiked plow. There is nothing more "Scrap planet" than a giant vehicle with a giant spiked plow on it.
The Nugget is already designed to be a modular detachable design. Why not expand it with that in mind? A passenger module for search and rescue with extra lift and storage. An armoured module for high risk search and rescue. An armed module for assault search and rescue. All detachable and compatible. The final name of course being the Mega Nugget.
Splitsie: I need 2 railway bridges for my sign
Also Splitsie: How about a fun train thingy
And I think he forgot about his sign ;)
I just got sidetracked :P
The Nugget lifting the bridge reminds me of a dacshund carrying a massive stick
That is just a perfect image of what it was :D
I swear that I have an instinct that lets me know whenever one of these is posted. Because everytime I check to see if a new episode has been posted I’m right on time.
It's like he posts one every Sunday morning. Almost like he has a schedule....
@@khrow83that’s a pretty wild idea
Surprise rail bridge, see this is what happens when you binge drink on the weekends. You wake up and random things you don't remember have happened somehow
Rip crane truck you served us well but you’ve been replaced
I am really loving that Nugget, just a good looking flyer.
Suggestion for your Crazy Train... The Aussie AusBorn... 😂
I have a suggestion for a hub, because you mentioned you wanted your base to be a place where everyone meets.
Instead of using your base, people can contribute to one specific location, where everyone can get together for events and stuff...
And you could all build it together like a scrapyard community, piece by piece
(if that's something that could be arranged that is)
The RBLF notes the Splitsie is starting to recognize the value of Batteries and Power Cells. But, he still values mere thrusters over the Batteries…
Bad Splitsie!
😂😂😂😂😂
This is my favourite series on UA-cam at the moment!
The community interaction is great!
Told ya 4 large thrusters can lift a lot! All u have to be careful to have enough gyroscopes if u lift complete large buildings (and maybe the leveled flight script as an option).
BTW didn't one of the trucks u found has/had a few of those "flat" type of thrusters?
wow .. hard to believe this has been going on for 10 years now ... i think back to your first series, and how much the game has changed too .. and everyone else who has made videos along the way ... and life as well ....
It's absolutely crazy, being a whole decade younger when I first bought and played the game and how far it's gone and changed my life in that time is staggering :D
23:25 Apparently Splitsie has the same luck in spawns as he has for not dying to fall damage :p
Oooh! New sleepytime scrapyard survival!
You can use the thrusters together with the chinook to make a storage houler for the nugget!
One of my ideas for the train-cars is to redesign one of the wheels (or both) in to a bogie, that has the coupling point on it, so it could work like a pully (or a toy/model train); or the lazy idea is to reduce the friction on the front set of wheels so the wagons act like a trailer!
That is the way they setup road trains that run through the Australian Outback. Front axle is connected via a hitch to the rear of the car ahead, and connected via a pivot to the underside of the car it is on. That allows each car's front axle to act as a steering axle for that car. Then you leave the rear axle fixed.
For in game, if you need to disconnect the cars, it would leave the front axle on a subgrid, so that may cause some issues. You could fix the pivot and have the cars drive backwards, so the rear wheels become the front and can steer since they arent on a sub grid. That does leave you with front wheel drive though, but you could have a "bogey" axle at the front and a double axle at the rear, then when driving you get 4x driven wheels at the front and 2 undriven fixed wheels at the rear.
28:32 remind me of recognisers (from tron) I think my brain might just be fried though, loving the series so far!
Yes! I couldnt remember what they were called, but yes!
I had to do a google image search but, yep, I can absolutely see the resemblance :D
I want to see a thruster powered mad Max train with a fighting caboose on the back with armed people hanging off the sides. Train vs a defense tower armed with people shooting as well.
you could add some mag plates to the sides of the flyer so u can attach small grids to them
if you got more small thrusters (or traded for them with the big ones you have) you could make a welder-grinder worker type thing
You could make a lift module with storage a survival kit and another battery that links to the nugget
what you need is some of those portable trailered work lights for out in the boonies of your scrapyard at night.
I feel that this series really has Mad Max written all over it and how as an Australian you have resisted that, i shall never ever know
It's one of those things you've just got to resist, like talking about prawns and bbqs :P
Nice! Really loving this series, I don't have the time to watch regularly but on occasion I get some free time and I come back and binge watch to catch up.
Drivin that train, avoiding the clang, splitsie know you better watch your speed. Lol
I'm sure I'll forget and the carnage could end up being spectacular :D
@@Splitsie lol that was a cheesy attempt at a Greatful Dead song nod. You started messin woth trains and the song Casey Jones got stuck in my head.
Get 3 flatbeds, cut the cabs off, join the trays together side to side, cover top in mag plates, stick all the extra thrusters on it, attach to the nugget, flying platform for collecting all those smaller loots like batteries.
Can't help but think you could use a few towers with turret controllers and spotlights to help aim for night cleanup
Your death train mission sounds like fun, but based on that first trip a successful polar mission will need multiple flying vehicles. Sit on those spare thrusters for making a few armed ice mining gunships with a pilot and gunner. That's the only way you're collecting any ice.
Idea: a single-grinder pit that just does the last clean up of fiddly plates and loose blocks after you've done the bulk of the work with a hand grinder. You have to do some of the work, but you get max possible speed, minimal hassle, and little shrapnel. Give it a main on/off switch and a safety sensor so it can't grind when friendlies are in the pit.
PS: 2 atmos can comfortably lift one small-grid large container full or ore in 1G (~80 tons IIRC), so yes add one to the Nugget.
Love watching this series. Decided to reinstall the game and try it again, but the game keeps crashing. So now I cry a little inside as I keep watching these videos.
For the nugget, if you plan to do more batteries, you could make it a bit longer then add the additional thrusters to be able to lift a LOT more stuff (in terms of amount and weight)
The nugget seems pretty vertibird inspired. I would be tempted to give it a detachable cargo extension with tail thrust to complete the look for long haul flights.
I had the biggest surprise today In my own Scrap game on Satreus (125Km) :
- Finding Scraps : Check.
- Going after the Excavator Cockpit : Check.
- See something move : Check.
- Being Shot at by a NPC space Engineer : Check.
- Go after him with the Grinder : Check.
I use the Mod Crew. It add a serious stress when you go after scrap with cockpit and maybe something else.
You should try too !
You should give the nugget landing struts that fold down from the wings so you don’t have to disconnect what you are carrying every time you find something new.
Finally the train concept! I've been collecting and remodeling train cart but when i put it to the test, i failed sooo hard 😅 cant wait to see how you will make it work. Thanks for the content Splitsie👊
Oh don't you worry, I'm thinking there's a good chance I'll fail spectacularly and make you feel better :D
If you rebuilt the landing legs so that there's a couple of blocks gap you could add mag plates on top so you have somewhere to carry smaller blocks.
I just had a vision, Something outta Shanghai Noon, a train; after laboriously trudging across dunes, now has to run: side panels blow off and fall away as the wheels detach, large atmos extend out, rotate to merge block into upward thrust, and the entire train just lifts off and flies away dragging the traincars upward, surprising all of the passengers with its sudden and inevitable transformation- as Clang Drive starts to play on all the speakers- To (para)quote Furiosa Movie: "But are you going to make it EPIC?"
Might want to put a couple mag plates on the tops of your landing skids so you can attach small blocks instead of having to land ontop of them
Yeah, I thought exactly the same thing when I saw him man handling those single blocks.
That Train is more of a B-dubble, to be a road train ( because there are no tracks ) needs couple more trailers.
Watched and Liked 👍
I’m jealous of the flier. I’ve not managed to build one yet and damn the speed you get about now
It makes a big difference, but I still enjoy the slower pace of using a crane as sometimes a flier almost feels too easy :P
Try an x-shaped double connection between the cars, that should help the train stay lined up. Set one 'arm' of the X above the other by a couple of blocks, that way there's no interference between them.
Thx for saving my day! You're my ray of light inbetween doom-scrolling 😊
Set the entire train to 0 to 2 friction, use atmo thrusters to create a skimmer train.
I think you should attach the 2 train engines together, side by side, similar to a F-82 Twin Mustang. It'll make the wheel base wider and look really badass. It'll also help avoid the totally unlikely event of the front engine taking a critical hit becoming floppy dead weight in front of the rest of the train. Each side can provide redundancy for the other.
Put a drill in a cow guard on the front of the train to help pick up ice!
it'd make sense to have searchlights at sides of the nugget cockpit, you can control one and have a move'able camera
As you have noticed, the question is not can the nugget lift this thing? It's do I have the power to get back and the patience to fly back at 2 mph (for vary heavy objects).
Should definitely turn that train into a connected tank armour it up and salvage some controllable turrets so that when you all meet up there's a turret each to controle 😂
I enjoy watching these while playing my own scrapyard survival
Well here's a crazy yet not crazy idea. If you've seen back to the future part 3. You could make a flying train like Doc did. Just an idea
Find/build enough bridge pieces and you could have an elevated loop to go around your base, that includes your sign idea across the courtyard entrance. (Still waiting for the flickering neon sign effect)
Build a couple tiny rovers and you could have races or time trials for a future competition.
Good idea to have decoy cars at the back of the train that you can release to draw the attention of the enemy away while the rest of the train escapes. (Sorta like some reptiles that can detach their tails when caught).
For the train car connections... try this arrangement. Rotor, horizontal hinge, mag plate, mag plate, vertical hinge, rotor.
Separate the cars at the mag plates and you don't have to mess around with attaching/detaching hinge or rotor parts.
Make all the cars the same (rear connection has the horizontal hinge and front has the vertical) then it won't matter which car goes where in the line-up as long as they're all facing forward.
I can just imagine someone else on the server seeing you fly by with a whole warehouse.
have to Armor around the cargo and Vitals with Doors .. they were the saving grace on your last invasion
@splitsie you have the merge block on the flight control of the nugget with the directional thrusters, the only thing that is connected to, is the 4 large up thrusters. You could make another lifting rig designed for heavier scrap with more directional thrust that way it is interchangeable for what you need
Please blueprint the chicken nugget, it looks so perfectly scrapyard built!
I suggest a pair of coloured spotlights on the nuggs win pods to highlight whilst scouting (and maybe add to some junk vibe with mismatched colour)
Could add large drive thrusters on those pods if you take off the beam blocks at the top. Run away mode engage
Also rebuilding the plane/making it work would be cool for a craft to visit others
Might want to look up some photos of european armored trains for some ideas. A lot of them were pieced together out of whatever materials were on-hand at the time.
I'm thinking I'll do that alongside some of the mad max inspired things out there :)
Train: I put the fun in disfunctional
Obviously you need 3 or 4 bridges to stretch across the entrance, then you can build ramps up on either side, and park your train there when it is not in use! On the other hand, direct connecting both engines together into one grid would give you some more tractive power and control over the rest of the train?
Regarding the sacrificial railcars you mentioned, how about building half-length ones (or cutting regular ones in half). If they are decoys they don't have to be large. Can shed sections like a tapeworm.
Edit: Since you have a surplus of thrusters how about a single-large lift "forklift" flyer for working in/around all your mess . . . er, "stock"? Will need some smalls for the lateral thrust. But you do have a few. Also you need a "mobile battery". Something to run around and charge up your other items as needed when they run out and are not connected.
All those bridges seen from an angle look like at-at from StarWars
Something you may consider to be able to rule out neighbors from scrap potential is visit them to GPS them so you can see “that’s not scrap” just by looking at your HUD. Granted, that may get pretty busy if if you have a lot of neighbors, but you so rarely have you GPS markers visible.
I've got quite a few neighbours, so I probably just need to get better at remembering where they are :D
you should put a few mag plates on the top or side of the skids to hold smaller components
You could add small magplates under the arms so you can carry small blocks like batteries and event controllers
You could use the thrusters to give the nugget a "trailer", so you wouldn't need to return to base so often.
~edit~
You could use the detach block that's on the nugget and switch between the normal thrusters you have now and then a "flatbed" type setup (with cargo and a survival kit).
8:40 made me giggle 😂
Heavy train with multiple custom turrets and decoy cars
Love the videos, learned a lot. Just started playing a month ago so still a baby engineer. You should really start a video book and name it space engineers guide to the Galaxy. Cheesey I know but it would fit the banjo theme you got going. Love the content
what your base needs is a bowling alley an arcade and a gift shop. (yes a rolling ball and pins to knock down and pin ball machine ... hint hint.)
Agreed!
I'm not sure the scrapyard is the place for a bowling alley, but you have got me thinking of a way to make one just for the fun of it...
@@Splitsie Thats the spirit !!
actually i was envisioning guys lounging around while waiting for you to make a challenge course or their turn etc they can entertain us and themselves,, lol. OR it could be part of a challenge to build or play.
28:00
Definitely could do with more Gyroscopes on that little nugget :P
Add 1 or 2 medium cargo, 2 more lifting thrusters and more battery to the nugget
With as much space as is in the nose of those locomotives, you totally could have the first one pull with the help of a large atmo thruster (the fan of which would look rad as heck on the front of a Doom Train)
lol Yeah, there's probably enough room in there for an 'internal' thruster
rocket train is the best idea i've heard yet
the only thing better than collecting potentialy useful shit is watching soemone else do it this is great
More of the big thrusters 3 each side! And extend it so u can add storage and survival kit, and batters! That would be awesome
Not to derail your pole mission, but there's massive amounts of ice under every red patch on that planet.
Nope, we removed all ores and ice from the version of the planet we're using except for the bit at the poles :)
More is always better.
I am a somewhat infrequent Watcher however I also like the nugget design maybe you can make an adapter that fits around the current frame turning it into a heavy lifter so much to the trains design combined with the idea of a Russian nesting doll
Could construct a spare nugget for just-in-case emergencies (including another merge block to temporarily merge the two together for *even more* lifting thrust for large projects). Maybe even just make an auxiliary thrust module to make up for the Nugget's shortcomings?
You an do a modular "pack" that you can connect to for batteries if you need longer fly time. Someting that's not altering the ship, but cam attach to it when needed.
So you could turn your chinook into a heavy lifter, just put the large thrusters inside, make the “rotors” spin just cause, and you would have an epic lifter ….. because why not lol
Man I love your chicken very cool Hercules chicken.
Next episode of scrap survival splitsie comes online and finds the chicken nugget no longer A symmetrical
A couple magplates on top of the chicken legs would let you grab small things (eg small-grid 1x1 things) without having to land on them or drop them to land.
Oh yeah, I'll take a look and see if they can fit in there as that's a good idea to get some top side storage without changing the design much :)
Thanks for the video
Don't use rotors on trailer hitches, you don't need them. Vertical hinge then horizontal hinge behind the truck, then enough blocks to give clearance to the trailer. Put a 30 degree or so limit on the hinges and that's all you need. Look up ISL by Spite in the workshop, his trucks and trailers are all like this and work great.
Don't give in to those that want everything symmetrical. insisting everything be symmetrical is not a logical compulsion, but actually weakness of character, an indulgence of base tendencies. Resist and be a stronger person for it.
To express desire for sameness is to reject the scrap. Scrap must be embraced and celebrated. Irregularity is the peak of design. Templates adjusted. Blueprints adapted. Scrap is eternal.
Instead of a scrap yard it's kinda turning into a scrap town
Name your heavy lifter the Turkey Nugget. Cuz turkeys are bigger than chickens... lol
Also, put some magnets on top of your chicken feet for the small grid items...
You should make your craine arm modular so you can disconnect it from one vehicle and put it on another without any issue
Have you though about having a wearhouse with a foldable roof so you can drop in salvage inside right away?
