In my experience a fluted barrel is heavier than a standard #2 barrel. To account for the fluting the barrel must be of larger diameter to begin with so after fluting there is still more steel material in the portions of the barrel that is not fluted. If I used a fluted barrel on my .35 caliber for instance I wouldn't be able to carry the rifle for very long in the mountains.
ok, but if i have two barrels, both have the same weight, but one is flutted, The myth says that the flutted one it is going to be stiffer and have better heat dissipation. True or false?
hey piet, ive got a howa 1500 308 bull barrel, i love the look of the flute job, what does it do besides looking good, does it have any neg points to doing it.
Dont you feel it's such horse crap . Y'all have to serialize your barrels but can buy a supressor like it's nothing We can buy barrels like their nothing but have to go though hoops to get a supressor
Iv just been listening to a podcast on fluting . It claimed that it can create a loose spot in the boar where the fluting is. Have you experienced this ?
Why such the worry over weight? Are you running a marathon with the gun or something? Just lost a bunch of velocity by chopping the barrel. Any why the suppressor? So much for accuracy...
Should have added the 4" piece to the scale, so we know exactly the difference was.
The video never answers teh question: How much did the fluting remove? The 600g is the fluting AND the chop.

Nicely done Piet.
The audio balance seems much better. 😀👍
I am curious how much weight was shaved off with fluting alone.
yeah , what was the waight with fluting alone and how meany fluets was that
Excellent video. Could you tell me what is the coating on you fluted barrelled action?
Cerakote
doesnt really show how much fluting saves when we dont know how much the weight of the piece you cut of does it
Why title the video “How much weight does fluting save?” And then never address the weight of the flutes?

That is a slick colored action, what cerakote color is that?
Thanks Piet - I am looking forward to the next video as I have always wondered if you can improve the FPS with adding a silencer on a shorter barrel.

Hi Piet after you shot this rifle, would you send anther one fir fluting or not?

what barrel are you using?
Hi Piet. Which warrior silencer is that?
How does it perform?
You didn't answer the title of the video, How much weight does fluting save?
How is the worrior suppressor? Been thinking of putting that exact suppressor on my Tikka t3x
I've had my Warrior suppressor for over 2 years now, no problems
Piet hoe is daardie warrior silencers? Dink daaraan om vir my Creedmoor een te kry.
@@IMPACTSHOOTING Ok klink na 'n plan. Wats jou prys op hom?
Let’s be honest, fluting looks freaking cool. That’s it.

Rifle shot incredibly well, and used to hunt in mountains for baboons. Sold it since, new one ever better. But carbon barrel and faster cartridge
is this in murica???
🇿🇦
You basically saved 1/3 lb in weight. Thatd be like.. a polymer AICS magazine in weight.
Actually, its way more, cut 4inch off the barrel also.
I should have Clarified more. *** with suppressor on it’s only 1/3 if a pound (ob). ***
Piet Skiet also, what camera are you using?
Canon 80D
*
That's 1.322lb's for Americans
Nice
Is that a roll of toilet paper in the background? That is gross.
You have made the dumbest comment here.
165 fps loss
