They finally did it! After twelve years of waiting and three years of hoping, Fabien Galthie's France have their Grand Slam. So, with the title now in their hands, how did our new blue overlords do it, and just how good can they be?

As a scrum half I cannot express how excited I am at the prospect of a Dupont vs De Klerk game
It already happened twice actually. Over the last 5 years Toulouse and Sales playes 2 games in Champions Cup. But different context so I understand what you mean
Right with ya! Easily my 2 favourite 9's to see the top 2 teams in the world build around their talent in that position makes my scrum half soul happy
@@kevindugoujon1344 I get what you mean but I wanna see peak Dupont and Faf with the Springboks defense
De Klerk just kicks now. Always been just a wee bit overrated.
@@BigBroKuma yeah, that was the conclusion of my previous comment
"Le slam du grand" has joined "omelette du fromage" on the list of amazing frenglish phrases.
But French do call it "Le grand chelem".
"Chelem" being slam's translation.
Omelette is a French word, not a Frenglish or Franglais one.
@@Battosai84 Yes but the formulation is wrong. It’s omelette au fromage
@@MaximeDambrinyou are of course correct, but tell Quentin 🤣
"Make Antoine Dupont cry again" #RWC2023 💙🤍❤ Thank you Squidge Rugby for France's new slogan !👌
Villière's clear out on Itoje at 13:48 is just so typically brilliant of the man.
Man just throws Itoje aside like he's not at least 1.5x as big.
it is a brilliant player and like Fickou, too often overlooked
Came into the comments section to make exactly this point. I’m old enough to remember when a second row being cleared out so comprehensively by a wing would’ve been a source of abject humiliation.
Without doubt the best rugby analysis channel on UA-cam. Someone in the media needs to pick this guy up its fantastic. As a French fan I just hope his analysis doesn't give the game away.
Without a doubt, this guy is head and shoulders above all the analysts (post-game). Although I would love to see him give live analysis, and see how keen he eye is in real time :D just brilliant!
France won the most entertaining grand slam in Modern history
Who's Morden?

Careful though, everytime you say that a frenchman is coming on the spot. believe.
That. Was. Magnificent. Well done mate.

How did you see the video before it was uploaded?
how, how have u watched this so early, did he share to you personally early?
When are u gonna upload again???
@@jaffadew1155 Yep. We talk quite often to share ideas and I got it last night. Think the ruck speed stuff in particular was brilliant.
Something that's interesting to add is that France conceded a cumulative ten points (!) in the last quarter of all its games this 6N. That's 10 points in 100 minutes or so.
3 points against Ireland from Carbery at the 73rd, 7 against Scotland from VDM's try at the 80th. (I'll add they also conceded none against the ABs this Autumn). Stopped England and Wales from scoring a single point after the 60th mark despite being on the backfoot for most of that period.
Galthié and his staff had identified the last quarter as being the team's main weakness last year. All the games France lost in the 2020-2021 season were lost within the last 10 minutes, many of them on the siren. So they simulated those kind of tense last minute scenarios over and over again to get it right.
Well spotted
That is a brilliant observation and a powerful stat.
Let’s just appreciate how much effort squidge work
Been waiting on this and yet again Squidge doesn’t let is down.
Also that intro was hilarious 😂
The thing that baffles me is when did France suddenly become consistent? Looks like the apocalyse is upon us. The French Rugby Union Team being consistently good!?! Dogs and cats living in harmony!?!!?! MASS HYSTERIA!!!?!????!?!??!!!!! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤪🤪🤪🤪
Not really consistent there performance against Wales wasn't to par with the rest
@@thomasdrummond2946 spot on. And us Irish pushed them right to the end
@@thomasdrummond2946 yet they still won, and that's a game they would've definitely lost in the last 2 years. They are consistently winning (on the verge of the largest winning streak in french history) and consistently not throwing games away in the 2nd half. Overall, they are consistent.
@@eoinpelan3328 agreed ireland bottled that but I’m kind of glad they did because they are playing great rugby had we won this year we may have rested on laurels and not raised it for 2023. France had a great tournament and we’re worthy winners but I’m liking how Ireland are building quietly enough.
Teared up when I saw Dupont cry, I think i saw him more like a rugby machine than a human being until now
Well, brilliant video! Thanks for your huge work. Regards from France! Vive le Rugby ! 🏉🇮🇹🇮🇪🏴🏴🏴🇨🇵🇦🇷🇦🇺🇳🇿🇯🇵🇫🇯🇼🇸🇹🇴
The beautiful paradoxes of rugby are that yes, we won the Slam but I never felt we were hitting top gear in any game ; strangely I thought we played better last year.
Cmon the Irish were huge this year ! The French team that beat them was definitely pretty meach in top form imho.
(i'm French too but i really admire that terrific Irish team).
Thoroughly enjoyed this, can’t wait for France vs South Africa I’m backing the French 🇫🇷
Hi Squidge Rugby ! Once again, a relevant analysis with a lot of humor! Even if you speak a little too fast for my French brain and some jokes must escape me.
Indeed, if the philosophy of the French game under Galthié is clear and simple: create movement and bring the ball to life at all costs and as fast as possible, the strategy as you analyze it is perfect: 1/ overwhelm; 2/ overload; 3/ overpass: either by stretching or by perforating.
But please… Stop revealing everything to everyone in rugby world 😁😅🙃… Because on October 28, 2023, we all want to cry like Antoine Dupont.
Squidge talks fast for native speakers too!
I would hope that national level coaches are at least able to analyse that much from their opponents' tactics.
@@j.p.mccarthy9713 haha yes, i wish he would CC his videos, because when he speaks super fast and also adds stuff to read on the screen, i just end up having to rewind every thirty seconds
@@marsimus13 I thought I was the only one doing that
Fabien Galthié was World Rugby International Player of the Year in 2002, this might explain somewhat why he is a good coach.
good players dont always translate to good coaches
@@bothi00 Sure, but a scrum-half, who has a directing role in the tactics, has a solid base to become a good coach. A fly-half too.
0:30 Squidge, "A pack almost as big as Romain Ntamack's balls". 😂😂😂😂😂😂
So you still haven't hear of Colomiers, have you ? Galthié was their n°9, and guess who was their 10 ? Labit... :D and its the exact same method (plus a sprinkles of Shaun Edwards at the defense and Ibanez at the scrum) of 1-3-3-1 moving diamonds formation(s) where any player can be called to play any role. It takes a huge rooster of talents, but France has it (and watch the U20 and U18 games lol). We're rolling onwards a decade of French domination.
Thank you ! Great job !
excellent
I'd also give a shout-out to Maxime Lucu for his monumental improvement over the last 12 months
He's in sensational form at the moment. He was unbelievably good for Bordeaux against La Rochelle and is really running the show for them in Jalibert's absence
I think it also makes great team dynamics having two club pairings as our halfback pairings (Dupont Ntamack and Lucu Jalibert)
The halfback partnerships compliment brilliantly to have 2 "maverick"s and 2 "general"s. Dupont and Jalibert are our "mavericks" and Lucu and Ntamack our "generals" (though all 4 can adopt traits of the other style). Our optimal halfback pairing will be 1 general and 1 maverick to give us great balance in the halves
I think we've got the perfect halfback quartet right now to take us through the world cup
Beyond 2023 we will have the likes of Le Gerrac competing with Lucu and Serin for the bench spot and Couilloud aiming to compete with Dupont
Lucu has been excellent this 6 nations tournament. France never missed Dupont when Lucu came on to finish the job.
Galthié needs to lock a number 2 at 9. He can't let Lucu plays only 10 mn at a time. Dupont can be injured or out of form. Let's give Serin, Le Garrec, Lucu or Couilloud more game time... he needs to choose and not only rely on Dupont.
@@alexthiebaut2195 lol

13:11 As a South African, I'm F*CKING TERRIFIED at the prospect of playing France this November. At this rate I'd rather face NZL in the quarters, bc we don't fear them anymore(not to be arrogant, but NZL isn't the rugby gods they used to be in recent years anymore). Yet this French team is a once-in-a-generation team which is almost invincible like the 2015 ABs. I hope our defense can match their attack and that we might barely scrape by with regards to physicality in the forwards.
We'll see, it is still a young team and they are a bit too much inconsistent to my liking. Yet, it is the best team we had in decades and I can finally look forward to fixtures against AB and SA. Can't wait for November.
@@yooyist The only thing they're inconsistent is with the margin by which they win, I mean they SMASHED the ABs last year while we just scraped by the ABs.
@@joachimmahoudeaux8619 Agreed, but with all the Springbok players playing in the Northern Hemesphere season games between the Springboks and NH opision should be more or less played on a level planefield.
The thing about the French that worry me most is we don't have that physical edge because they are just as powerful. Plus all the skill and most importantly, the team is vibing with each other like no other French side to my memory.
@@ezrolly9898 Excellent set of comments here. 👍
That’s all I’m here to say, just “liking” the individual comments seemed insufficient.
Excellent analysis. Loved the spotting of the French pretend Rucks…. V good Prof Squidge
I remember watching the attack structures from the Wibble Rugby video! Now I'm hearing it again and it's like I'm a student watching a class and thinking "wait I read that somewhere". Once again another amazing video Squidge, if it weren't for you I wound't be so into rugby, which is rare here in Portugal
That Wibble video analysis is amazing too. Such detail
Quel hommage ! Thank you kind sir !
So happy to see you back with once more a great video. Thank you so much for all your great content!
Excellent analysis as always!!! 👏👍
Squeeeeeeeedge!! that was necessary. thanks, it's so mind blowing to understand the tecnical movements behind the plays as a non-player. Well done!! YUH!!
Bro, your analysis works are amazing. Thx so so much 🙏
Great video Squidge! This level of analysis is sublime already and yet I feel we can go deeper yet. I also think some credit should be attributed to William Servat and Karim Ghezal for France's ruck speed as they're the coaches responsible for supervising the "conquête", which means any moment the ball can be contested (which includes the set pieces but also the breakdown).
Amazing video, been waiting so long for this video and i am not disappointed!!!
I waited so long for this one 🇫🇷🇫🇷🇫🇷
Yaaaaas you legend, thanks for picking it up after the monstrous effort during the tourney!!
Thanks for uploading this video mate!!! 💪🏉🏉
Fantastic video, once again I am learning so much which really brings to life this incredible sport.
This was a long time coming squidge but man, how good was this analysis. And you put so much emotion in it !! 👏👏👏
That was really fantastic. It’s incredible how you keep producing videos that are at such a high standard.
Wow. Amazing video. So well written. Thanks Squidge!
Thanks so much for you videos, they are brillant.
Cracking vid, I may be biased as an Irishman (good start right) but I also noticed how much of a difference the ball presentation made for us in our attack this six nations, I thought ours was a bit more noticeable from the ball carrier's effort than France (though it may have been because we didn't play that long against 15 aha)
can not fathom how much time and dedication those videos require ! Un phénoménal merci for that 6 nations, you made it even more enjoyable ! Allez les Bleus !
Your ads are always so funny - literally the only UA-camr I don’t fast forward the ads on.
finally, i look forward to finishing this
The video we’ve all been waiting for! Our mate Squidge didn’t disappoint x
Incredible video as always
Everytime you release a vid my day gets a lot better cheers Robby
Brilliant, as usual thank you squidge
Thks again for your analysis. It is evident for some time that
the speed Dupont clears the ball from the base, is a game changer for the way the Tricolours want to play.
2:50 "yeah fire this vahaamahina into the sun" 🤣
So interesting to learn about those offensive systems. I didn't see that explanation before. thank you very much indeed
You can have a look to another excellent channel wibble rugby

Splendid stuff. Every time.

Great review. This year guys I want to see France and the Springboks clash.
Merci beaucoup pour cette chouette vidéo ! :D
I don’t speech French but it was fun to see them just ball out
It was worth the wait !
09.00 What a brilliant analysis!!!
Alldritt's ball presentation (giggity) is superb. Always seem to extend an outstretched hand ready for Dupont to whip the ball away.
Watching this instead of doing my French homework
As a fan of Handball (in which France is best team in world for like last 20 years) a lot of combinatorics through center formations that France do in rugby reminds me of Handball combinatorics when you try to open opponent in the middle
The background flash of Tommy Bowe had me in stitches. Welcomingly unexpected.
I was literally thinking before I clicked on this video God it would be nice if squidge gave us a video on Eddie. This man always delivers, and promises the goods
Brilliant, just brilliant.
The continual Tommy Bowe references get me every time
Thanks so much for these videos. A quick suggestion, as a non native english speaker I use the subtitles (because damn, you speak fast). So i miss a few of the overlayed comments you put on the video, they are hidden by the subtitles when they are at the bottom part of the screen.
Keep up and the good work, and let's hope we'll see Antoine cry again!
Même problème, alors clique dans "paramètres" (la roue dentée) "vitesse de lecture" 0.75 et là c'est comme s'il parlait normalement.
tres bon travail . merci .
Thank you for giving them all our tactics away!
South African here....
I took notes! 😁
Re: Jones: was the crosskick at Villiere just the first time he‘s coached a side with a tall wing against a short wing since he pulled the same move with Tuqiri on Robinson in '03?
Thats was awesome
I'm really looking forward to watching the boks play this French team
I hate how confident we are that South Africa will make the finals again. As a South African I hate having this much confidence in our team. But I'm really looking forward to seeing the 2 teams play in the world cup final next year.😅
very very exciting at all
Dieu te bénisse Squidge
see i’m not a crier at all but at the minute aldritt kicked the ball out of the field and it was game over, the grand slam was won, i fucking BAWLED. and now every time i see antoine dupont cry i cry again. what a team
Shaun Edwards brought France the defence they needed for them to run their batshit crazy beautiful attack.
Well deserved and “long time” coming grand slam for France.
Just sad Wales lost Edwards, he even said he wanted to stay. We should have given him the world mun.
Will the French be able to play as fluidly if the boks strangle the French forwards?
who can strangle the french forwards?
Amazing that this is free tbh. The media world is changing
I love this video

this was a long way of saying "Shaun Edwards"🤣
Fingers crossed we can get a France vs All Blacks rematch this year. Would be great to take them on and win!

It's complicated but simple rugby. They play what's in front of them. Simplest but also hardest thing in rugby.
What about Ireland vs Scotland?
