That cattail fluff is awesome. We use dryer lint for kindling because we don't have cattails nearby, but that is a great survival tip. Also, using it as insulation is such a good idea.

My friend fell through the ice about a month ago on a shallow pond but flooded in his boots so he took off his boots and socks and I got some cat tail and surrounded his feet with it and he was very warm. In a survival situation it is a great resource!

    Hi Lilly,
Did you know that cattail fluff was also used to fill life preservers before we had modern materials? Also, you can eat this but, it goes through rather roughly.
I've been told that cattail fluff is a better insulator than even goose down.
    Keep up the good work.

My wife and I took a drive around into Idaho and I found a lake with cattails that I could reach around the frozen edges. I picked about a dozen heads to test making fire. Thanks for this video. I didn't know the heads reacted this way to a fire. I thought they would be a good tinder. I have to play with them and see how I can use them in my kit. Unfortunately there are not a lot of them in the woods around here because it is all mountainous.

I like to cut a small hole at the top of the cat tail and light it, gives you a small torch for about 5-15 minutes depending on the size of your cat tail, makes it real convenient to start a nice fire or even carry a fire with you. Try it out some time Lilly

  • @BornRandy62

I pack cat tail fluff inside of a big tin. As much as I can physically get inside the tin. Put the lid on and char it. It will catch a spark or ember and then you can use the entire can to start your fire. slam the lid back on it and reuse for many up to 10 or more before it is used up and you need to refill it.

Survival Lilly I have a very serious question for you, but before I ask you I want to let you know that I have been watching your channel for several months at least and love the information and your way of presenting it and I also have build a shelter in the forest.
Here is my question for you as an health researcher / expert. Survival is your topic your passion obviously, but how about expanding the topic to also long term survival over decades. I see major issues with your survival based on your nutrition which you have showed us. How can we improve peoples survival for life which is long and full of health and happiness? The documentary "Forks over Knives" is the best way I know how to communicate my point. I love what you are doing and I would love to add more survival options to what your channel is presenting. How to survive long term with no cancer, heart attack, join degradation, strokes. If even a few of your viewers or you benefit from this it would be worth it. I don't care about getting more views on my channel or what ever as I don't even monetize my channel but I do try to help others who want more long term survival because it is hard to survive as an obese or arthritic person who just had a stroke and or various conditions. It is just my view but we need to focus also on long term survival in this modern toxic world. Being connected to nature and doing what you do in nature is amazing and part of a healthy lifestyle but there is room for improvement Lilly. If you are willing. Health Supercharger

Lilly, I did not know that about cat tails. 😃👍
I think cat tails are a beautiful plant. So I transplanted some in my wife's flower beds around our pond.
They spread like wild fire. They took over everything. They got so bad, the wife made me kill them. She told me to keep my nose out of her flower beds. Needless to say, I was not her favorite person for awhile. :-( Lol !

I have never seen on any survival channel . Using this form of fire starter . And that is pine cones . Pine cones are full of oil just like the birch bark. You have to use the cones that have fallen off the trees and they are open. You can use the green ones . They can but are hard to get started. They want start with flint or steel or a fire steel . But they will start with matches or a lighter . They burn a long time so you can take your time building up your fire . Please do a video using the idea . Thanks.
