"Shadow Rituals" performed by the Arizona State University Wind Symphony Matthew Luttrell, conductor For more information, please visit www.michaelmarkowski.com
Michael Markowski came to my school and helped us with this song today (March 23 2024) such a cool experience. He had us play it way faster then we had been and it was so neat to finally do that. He asked what felt different about it, I didn’t get to answer but I wanted to say it didn’t feel like I was playing 120 and the other sections were playing 120 but now it was like we’re all just playing together by instinct and not thinking about it since it was so fast becausethere was no time to think, just play and feel the music. I also wanted to ask more about Saturn Returns because we played it last year but I felt bad because I knew it would all lead back to him saying how it was a break up song and I didn’t want to have him say that.
My band director gave this to us and we only have a month before our concert- I’m a sophomore playing 2nd clarinet in high school for out wind ensemble, and I’m stressing about these 16th notes near the end 😭😭
Learn your F# scale! I’m the first chair at my HS and that’s what I’m having my section do. At this point in time your comment is two weeks old. Hopefully you have survived thus far and we will one day meet in Valhalla and be scribed in legend forever as the few to brave this piece
My school played this last year contest. It was such an experience. And my first year on bass trombone. This recording and other pieces really fought me how a bass bone should sound and laid the ground work for it to become my primary choice. Thank you!
we just had a rehearsal with Mr. Michael Markowski. We played it about this tempo. All i can say is, Thank you for coming mr. Markowski. From 1st trombone, susan e wagner.
Facts when i was in middle school it was so hard to play it half the tempo and now i look back thinking wow ive grown as a musician from a fat ms kid to a normal high school kid

This is your marching band piece? That's pretty cool, is it the same arrangement or is it arranged differently?
Im part of a band playing it this year and I've never had more fun learning a song
this will be the third time in my band career that my band is trying to play this...third time’s a charm?
played this for UIL as 3rd clarinet. although this piece was genuinely mentally torturing, i adore this piece so much and I’ll miss it 😭
I love this piece, my wind ensemble is playing it right now.
Just played this at a concert as a 2nd trumpet. It’s a very cool piece I will remember it forever

Oh, the nostalgia... Fond band memories...
I played this piece in Carnegie Hall. This is hands down the funnest piece ive ever played. -Trumpet
We are playing Shine in Carnegie Hall. Even though I'm not playing this piece, I still love it.
Lane Myers from measures 143 till the end kills me
My favorite piece still has to be Undertow by Macky, the cymbal part was just so much fun.
Beautiful.
i’m literally so ready to play this for our spring concert!
I know how hard it is to play that even though I play it a lot slower so that was just amazing

this song is very reminiscent of Incantation and Dance.

I’m the only trumpet playing the high b in my ensemble and am hyperventilating every time I have to play it
