It went from a song I hated to something I didn’t know how to feel about and now to my Eurovision winner😭
this all happened in a day btw. I don’t think my opinion on a song has changed that fast before lol. I got whiplash 😭
Also it’s weird I like this so much because Finland is my last place and a lot of ppl say they are similar but not for me ig
I got the exact same lmaoo are you dutch perhaps?@@ANGELIC_DIVA_
Same thing that happened to me with Cha Cha Cha lmao
agreeed it shouldnt become tooo much tho ahha@@agnesmeow
Didn't care for it upon first listen, but it's been in my head all week and I keep revisting it😅
Same here, all them papas popping up in my head all the time !
Pure magic 🪄
I’m really happy to see this doing well after the initial lukewarm reactions.
It’s risen from 24th to 6th in the odds, from 19th to 10th on the fan app (soon 9th) and it’s amassed almost 6 million views on YT in 4 days which is kinda crazy.
People are starting to vibe to the song and realize it isn’t a joke entry. Gabber is a type of hardstyle/ techno genre that originated in the Netherlands in the 90s and it was created by artists from working class families who grew up in the streets and gabber artists criticized the establishment and things like racism, class disparity and homophobia. Gabber raves in the 90s were among the first places in Europe that were welcoming and safe for LGBT people.
The song itself, though humorous and a bit naff, is actually quite melancholic and has a deep meaning for the artist. He lost both his parents when he was 13 and the song is about him traveling across Europe trying to run away from his pain. He LOVES Eurovision and used to watch it with his parents every year and his dream was to go to Eurovision one day to make his parents proud.
I’m here for this weird sad bop!
Gabber is very much hit or miss for people! I'm so glad that it isn't being completely hated
Love and Respect to you two. Let's enjoy our differences of opinions (we all have them). I love this song (in my top 3 with Norway and Belgium). I feel he put his heart and soul into "Europapa": love, joy, loss, sorrow, and a celebration togetherness and belonging.
We have spoken many times since you filmed this but I love it so much! So happy to have a Gabber song finally in Eurovision
How dare we disagree
Roly love your videos! Thanks for having a good taste in music, we dutchies back in the 90's were all gabbers enjoying the happy hardcore!
Love you Roly!!💜💜
aaafkeee.. kom ik jou hier tegen! @@AafkeKastelijn
@@Valherok hahahahaha, hoe dan?!
Hard agree woth Nova here! I HATED this on my first viewing but it has grown on me. I will say i think it benefits from pure listening. It grew on me when i stopped watching the video and instead let it play in my playlist.
100% - didn't like it at first, but was drawn back and now I absolutely love it 😂
I mean. The 2Unlimited dance break is amazing. That’s a fact.
Me too! I immediately put this second to last after the first listen 😂
But the more I listen to it, the more I actually love it. It's now on the edge of my top 10 and I can see it getting up there if it's great live.
Hated it at first too. But theres just smth so charming about Joost now im hooked
its from dj paul elstak@@jonnersuk9055
Ello! UK eurofan and mosher here. Not my usual genre but omg I love this. It's SO Dutch, got a heartfelt, poignant message and catchy AF. We loved it on first listen, then watched the video with English translation and loved it even more.
Hope he does well with it!
This energy is not for.everyone...it originates from the 90's and is as Dutch as tulips and windmills.
Although it sounds.funny the message behind it is very emotional.
Too each its own...I love it and I'm proud to be Dutch this year ❤
my number one this year!
as a dutch this is a very nostalgic song because there are a lot of 90s music reference especially happy hardcore and gabber(the 4:55 the dancing you see there is related to gabber its Hakke/Hakkuh, the music is associated with drug culture) it was mainstream here in the 90s with songs like Rainbow In The Sky - DJ Paul Elstak(who has a cameo here and joost requested him to at his twist to the song, that became what you here now), Im A Raver - Nakatomi, Aquarius - Flamman, Party Animals, Have You Ever Been Mellow - Party Animals. But also artist like the German Scooter are referenced(the intro is very Scooter) but it also has elements of Mangoo - Eurodancer and Gigi D'augustino - L'amour Toujours
tldr: Dutch 90s references in a modern jacket with help of a popular 90s DJ from the Netherlands
edit(10:14), luktelk is my favourite lel
As some from Belgium who was young in the 90's I agree. I had Paul Elstak Rainbow in the sky on cd single (hated the B side lol).
I love how you were getting more bewildered by the minute. I gotta say I did love this song and it's been stuck in my head since it came out.
Hey people’s, I’m a Dutchie that hates gabber or hardcore music. it's just not my style but after listening a few times again. I become totally obsessed with this music. My advice for people who don't like this music on the first time that give ‘EUROPAPA’ some more time and listen again. the reason why this music is going big and (big chance) winning this ESC 2024.
1. in a short time there are so many views. no one in Dutch history has managed to get views in such a short time. This song would definitely be top 1 on Televote.
2. there is a big ART, meaning and story inside of this music with a lot of emotion. but most people don't know, their dont give a sh***t about it!
3. the song/chorus is constantly stuck in your head. But this brings pleasure, joy and sadness. Like you're on a roller coaster
4. this music is easy to sing.
5. who doesn't like cheerful music.
6. The vibes is amazing, in addition very catchy.
7. For the people dont know! Joost klein is amazing singer, has a lot of live stage experience, he has many fans in several European countries.
So ‘ EUROPAPA’ for the win! 🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱🇳🇱
OMG HOW FCKING DARE YOUUU TO... have a opinion 😂😂😘My apologies for the Lymp -torture by the nation of the Netherlands 🤣
On paper I should loath this but I very much enjoy how catchy it is. Am I biased? probably Do I care where this ends? Nah.. I'm just very happy we ditched the jury bait ballads and finally send something that is quite essential Dutch. Much 💖 from the FOCKING Netherlands 😘😘😘
Joost Klein dedicated this song to his father, who died when he was 12 years old due to cancer. His dad taught him that the world has no actual boundaries. His mother died a year later, when he was 13, due to cardiac arrest. Before his dad passed, Joost was already writing all kinds of stuff and promised one day he was going to go to Eurovision. He has gone through so many challenges in life, and it is a true inspiration to see how he deals with them.
@@Nimbus6000 thats cool mate then you haven't listened carefully
Honestly, I absolutely love this, first listen was unsure but now i’m obsessed, very much the same with when Switzerland came out
After Ducan Laurence, Joost Klein is our new nr 1 for The Netherlands🇳🇱🥳🇪🇺, greetz from Amsterdam!!!
Great editing. Also cute. Thanks for the reaction and much love from the Netherlands even if you didn't like it. We'll love you anyway!
LOVE EUROPAPA
I'm find it so interesting to watch these because I'm never sure how you two will react. The way you two felt towards this was my reaction to Estonia. I get way people like estonia, but I just cant get on board with it. But this song I kind of loved 😂
Gurrrlll! This song is like a virus. I was confused at first listen but now.... My #2 neck and neck below my current #1 Croatia. It's an earworm gosh!!!
i am in love with joost and his entry that so fun and so heartfelt (such a masterpiece)
This song is PERFECT. It has it all : infectious melody fused with Gabber stylings. A nostalgic sprinkling of ATC + Alizeé “Moi Lolita” + 2 Unlimited (my first musical love).
Easy to master, campy dance moves. A strong national identity, together with the (important) message of European unity. A clever, topical song with a sense of humour. Underpinned with a tragic yet beautiful personal story. 12 FUCKING POINTS 🇳🇱🌷🇪🇺🙏🏆
i hate this song but taste is subjective I guess... what I absolutely hate it's his fans saying: 'YOU SHOULD LIKE THIS SONG BECAUSE HIS DAD IS DEAD'
Oh my, I could really get used to the delightful amount of Novympia content recently 🤩
255k!! 🥳💖Here’s to endless more and richly deserved! 🥰🤩
Omg WHAT? I love it!
Love the song and the meaning of it ❤
I wonder if the people insulting Nova and Olympia over their reaction to this realize that no matter the "deep meaning" the song has or who it's dedicated to, if they dont like it then they simply dont like it. Like, there's really nothing anyone can do about it 😂.
not everybodies cup of tea and we respect that heard A LOT worse thise year. In the end hardstyle is part of dutch culture so it belongs at eurovision. My take on it You can travel freely in a Europe w/o borders but the pain of the loss of loved ones travels with you. Follow your dreams and make the ones you love proud. Carry the memories with you but also their lessons. Joost is no joke he is a survivor right through the pain to party on the eurovision stage.
i bloody love this song, it's so silly and fun, it doesn't take itself too seriously and i love it, we're getting so many dance songs and i'm here for it
Great description, definitely silly and fun!
If you think this is meant to be silly and not serious, you just really didn't get the message behind it...
respectfully bore off, i know the deeper meaning and it's sweet, but i was talking about the beat, vibes and music video, not everything has to be serious, you can't tell me you hear the song and don't dance to it, this was intended@@Sabrien85
I was underwhelmed at first until that techno break, but now I’m attached to this song and it’s in my 4th place. I can’t explain how happy this song makes me. 😅
It is gabber 💖
Its happy hardcore, the guy in the car is the one and only godfather dj Paul Elstak🎉
Love the song. Love the video, the lyrics/the message it's conveying and the satirical humour within it. I think this will do a lot better than many think (I hope). Especially will do better than the UK, I already forgot what Ollys song sounded like lmao.
Saw them live last night in Vancouver, B.C. Lots of energy on stage. Seemed like cool dudes.
Happy tunes, sad lyrics throughout.. no matter where he goes he can't escape the pain of his parents dying. This goes way deeper.. this is pure art
I love ittt!!!!! 🥰😍😍 this is my #number one #2 is serbia 🎉🎉🎉
I’m with Olympia on this one.
The musicvideo has 9.7 million views now! Unbelievable. And it entered the Dutch charts on number one! The last time that happened was 11 years ago. This dude is already breaking records left and right with this song! So even if he doesn't win the Eurovision, he's still a winner. He also designs his own outfits.
I SCREAMED seeing Misscatylove holy shit, what a fever dream of a selection
My first listen found it goofy and a bit of throwaway song tbh. But after hearing this song a couple of times it’s in my head and catchy and I’m starting to enjoy the track.
Best song! 12 points to the Netherlands! 🇳🇱
The Kaarija effect is strong this year
The song brings back a ton of memories back from the 90s with happy hardcore and gabber. And a ton of dutch known people. I think its more for people in the netherlands, germany and belgium.
Even though we don't share the same opinion about this song, I absolutely loved you guys' reaction!
Thank you! 💕
Im so into this❤❤
In the meantime, Europapa official release video on the EuroVision channel has more views in 4 days than the next most viewed 2024 songs number 2, 3 and 4 combined, which were released up to 3 weeks ago.
This is one of my favourites so far
I love this it’s very sweet when you get the message🤗
Edit: I typed the following halfway through the video and it's lovely to hear at least one of you feels the same.
No one likes this song at first listen as much as they'll like it over time, it's a banger and a diverse and meaningful one too, which imho is a rare thing to see combined in the current musical landscape. You either get something catchy, something deep and heartfelt or something that blows your socks off. Joost did all three here and even if he doesn't win he should be awarded long term respect for bringing something no one has ever done on the the Eurovision and that's to take you on a journey through a cascade of emotions and musical themes. It might not be to everyones taste, you can't deny that it catches you off gaurd 4-5 times in the span of a few minutes and that's new to this contest and probably will not be repeated anytime soon.
Its bringing back the 90s dutch gabber house back and this type of music in eurovision is never been heard
It will grow into you
I hope it still grows on you! Happy Hardcore/Gabber are definitely not for everyone, but as a Dutchie I'm just happy to send something so authentically Dutch. Polar opposite of what we've sent so far? Yes! Very much Dutch genre revival? YES! It's something Dutch people are finally rallying behind, so to see it grow on people is great.
Listen to it another time! It will grow on you 😂 I despised it the first time now it’s in my head for days
omg i saw the music video just yesterday because it came up on my now Eurovision centric video playlist (ALL YOUR FAULT btw) and wondered if I had missed your reaction to it. Glad I didnt!
Its silly as shit but unfortunately this is growing on me. And now I will be bouncing in my car and singing 🎵eu-ro-pah-pah🎵 eu-ro-pah-pah 🎵to myself
I completely understand the stance, it also almost goes into the ‘if I will have to look up the lyrics, it doesn’t work’ because the lyrics are very good, it even has some social commentary hidden in there too which doesn’t come across because it is Dutch.
In the end we need authentic music productions, in stead of much more of the same produced blandness. This is indeed a song you either love or hate, with the addition that knowing the back story about his parents and what he meant with the song can change people’s minds.
As with most of Joost songs there is a deeper meaning he is trying to convey. His brilliant song ‘wacht muziek’ has a lot of themes in it, but the core issue he is addressing is the problem with many teens having to wait a long time for psychological assistance for there mental issues. So he is not just a joke entry, but takes Eurovision very seriously, because he has been a fan for most of his life.
You people are amazing.
This is my #1 song. It has the EXACT vibe that I associate with eurovision and cosmopolitanism.
i think it's a work of art. try to listen to it with the lyrics
Omg the Misscatylove ‘Intro’ mention!!! 😅 #justice4intro
I love this!!!!!!!! top 3 for sure!!!!!!!!!!!
....I am SO OBSESSED WITH THIS SONG OMG
I don't think this reaction is as harsh as some commenters make it out to be. In fact, Nova's point at 10:35 is actually a great compliment. I mean, clearly this song was written *for* Eurovision, but it's not using any of the typical cues to appeal either to juries or (a specific idea of) televoters. Joost knows who he is artistically and is working with that. I, for one, not only respect that, but I'm surprised at how much it appeals to me.
I love this song, and was sitting here thinking Roly will definitely like this one if the girls don’t like it. And then Lymp goes and says exactly when i thought! I am a sucker for a sad song disguised as a pop tune. I have no idea how it will do, but i can imagine the crowds on the night singing along to the chorus.
12 points to the netherlanddsssss
I'm always such an Olympia as far as music tastes goes for Eurovision, but this year I'm apparently a Nova!
i was the same where i first listened to it and was like okay this is fun i guess, but it's been all over my tik tok and i've definitely warmed up to it a lot. i think this is gonna smash the televotes, there seems to be a whole community of people who aren't super interested in eurovision that have clung onto this song. also im obsessed with how nova knew olympia would hate it within one second of the song lmao.
Me and my American bestie are watching all the national finals and your very sound analysis of all the winners 🎉
This is the best reaction video of all Eurovision 2024 season 😂😂😂😂😂❤
Watch out; Joost Klein is the winner and the hottest ❤❤❤
it scares me how much i'm attracted to him.
Your mouths says no no - but your bodies says yes yes. Youre bopping.
This is for a new generation of Eurovision
It’s so bloody good!!
you know it's nice to see some honesty in reactions. Not everyone likes this song and it's ok to say that. Most other reactions all seem to "like" it. Wether they are truthful, who knows
I loooooooooooooove this song so much 😭😭😭😭🥹🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🇪🇺🥹🥹🥹🥹🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😍😍😍😍😍
For me it's not important what kind of music it is, but if it matches the artist perfectly. It's the case for this song. Joost could have made a lalalala happy song easily, but this song has strong lyrics and so much references. It's not just a song, but an artwork. And it's very well done, very very very very very well.
Joost said that either you love it or you hate it, but if you hate it, please listen to it again.
He wasn't wrong. :)
I usually don’t like these types of entries and for some reason this is my 3rd place
I was confused when I watched the video for the first time but it's become one of my faves this year. It also reminds me of scooter a lot lol
Love this song. Great story. My number 1.
I'm really not sure about this one, because it's clear that in a more "mainstream" year (basically any of the others this decade) this would have slotted in alongside your usual Moldovan fare as a kind of funny, campy entry that picks up televotes well. But because this year is so loaded with very eye-catching and bold entries in more alternative genres, we end up with Europapa oddly feeling a little more pedestrian than I think it was intended to? Although that seems to be doing really well for its popularity, people are already going 'too many post-Kaarija acts' and rebelling against the trend in the same way people get annoyed at ballads in any year there's more than three of them. I'm really enjoying this year though, so I feel like I'm not vibing with Europapa as much as I would be if it had come out in, say, 2021? Good luck to him either way though, he's clearly worked very hard!
I love this song, of all the 'Kaarija effect' songs I think its the best one.
Dutchie here and have to be honest: SO embarrassing this song... " YEah but you are old" " Yeah you just don't get it!" Embarrassing not because of my age (54 and counting) or that I just don't 'get' it but this belongs in the late 80-ies and perhaps early 90-ies when this was 'all the rage' and we were dancing to this, but it is 2024, we have moved on, it is SO old and done before and not original...
Love seeing your reactions to things because sometimes its easy to get stuck in my own opinion bubble but i haven't agreed on any of your opinions so far haha, I'm here for the silly part tunes :D
Honestly I really do like this song! I get great vibes from this
I used to work at Walkabout in Bournemouth (a bijillion yrs ago) and the chorus transformed me there in an instant and that was not the experience I wanted thank you very much HA! 😂
I feel like it's gonna be a club hit though.
I'm on the same boat as Nova. I really wanted to love it, but I also don't love his other repertoire, so this was never gonna be my favorite. I do really like the hard techno part, and wish there was more of it in the song!
Love the song, winner
As an American, this is what I think of when I think of European music--and pass the Toblerone! I am here for it!
Twelve points to the Netherlands! eu-ro-papapapppaaapappaaaaapppaa!
I love Eurovision !
Switzerland next please, can't wait to see your reaction to that one!
Everyone who isn’t Dutch should listen to it with captions turned on

I love this song. Joost's emotional backstory is really touching, and his pro-EU message is great. I still find Lymp's reaction hilarious though.
I had the exact same reaction as you when I watched the video, something just didn’t click for me… maybe the live performance will improve my opinion of it
I find myself singing Gangnam Style every time I try to remember this song, so I’m so glad Nova mentioned Psy!
