No problem David keep up the good videos always enjoy your shooting and commentary someone has to keep the vermin under control and keep those farmers happy
As always great video and excellent hunting ethics. A great view of the Irish countryside makes me long for greener pastures but the Arizona desert will have to do for now. Happy hunting!
Again David a brilliantly executed (pardon the pun) video. Criticism cannot be levelled at your shooting prowess because of your complete professionalism & respect for your quarry. Out of interest I have just purchased the HW97 Blackline in .22. Same as yours. Best of Luck & thank you for sharing all your videos.
They are very smart birds. One came into my garden a discovered a piece of dried bread. However it was hard and a bit stale, the clever bird first soaked it in the bird bath so it was edible
You did as I would, wait for a confident shot. Right on. Good hunting, I'm going to have to try making some of your cradles and do a lil decoying myself! Great video as always. :)
Great video again David my friend, and yes head shots are the best so well done sticking with not taking a heart and lung shot with the 177. I have another problem with my R10 that is concerning me but I have board you enough with questions already LOL!!!!
Thanks for that buddy and will check the link out in a moment. I shoot my rifle almost every day just in the garden so not really noticed an issue until I had to leave shooting for a week due to work hours. I then came to get the rifle out and the air level was near on empty... and was pretty sure I fully charged it as I do after each shooting session, but was not sure. I charged it fully and documented time and checked same time the next day and day after etc... My findings were that after 24hrs it had lost 50bar, then lost another 50 24hrs later until just about empty after four days :o(
Just had a look at the link you sent and is very interesting. I will contact gun shop first regarding my leak problem on my R10 and see what they say. The blueprint for R10 is expensive for me but have an FX Typhoon rifle I could sell to cover cost or some of the cost. I will have to see what the FX is worth second hand, but not sure how to find out, suppose I could join an Air Gun forum for accurate answers. Thanks again David. Rich (waddac2)
I have never seen these birds living in Texas and Oklahoma.I did see a bird i think it was a reticulated woodpecker my birder friend told me they were rare and almost as big as a crow.I saw one a couple of weeks later biking in the woods looks like a redheaded woodpecker but huge I didn't think much of it till one flew right in front of me.
Another good video pal always enjoy your videos I know you said you were using the Bisley magnums it's a pellet iv not had good results with the pellets I'd suggest you give a try are the PREMIER Ultra magnums by Crosman 10.5gr I find that they group very very well better than the lighter version of the same pellet which I think is 8.4gr it's the blue and red label on the tin iv found that they are really good out to 50yrds or consistent groupings nice energy transfer and good on fur and feathers, anyway keep up the good work hope you try a tin of those pellets happy hunting
Excellent hunting video. I do appreciate your hunting integrity! If you'll take me hunting rabbits in Ireland - I'll take you hunting deer and hogs here in Texas! Hunt on.
Thanks for the video mate, the level of detail you put in them makes your videos stand out from other pest control vids. +Fre DeHeerser I think i saw a hunting video using a 50cal air shotgun thats coming on the market soon which seemed to work well on doves. I think the trick is loading and holding the shotgun pellets in place in preparation for the shot. it's interesting I've seen several of your video stands using the rabbit but never seen the birds even pick at the rabbit. They seem much more interested in the birds. Is it always like that? Rabbit is just for decoration?
No not always but they will come down to the rabbit on its own but i add the decoy bird to try and play on their territorial nature in seeing a strange bird in their territory sitting at a potential food source usually gets them going.
I'm not sure if you remember, but this is the previous owner of the channel JrSquirreler. Been watching you since I was 12-13 years old and first created the channel. Happy to watch you grow and stick with UA-cam. I made the decision to stop the JrSquirreler channel at around the 2k subscriber mark. I am making a comeback with this current channel, but it is going to take years to reach the point I was at. Just checking in, saying hello. Let me know if you see this!!
Been watching the channel for a while now, another great watch. Have applied for my license and have a deposit payed for a HW97k in .22. Could you recommend me a scope to go with the rifle, thanks
Thanks I've never had any problems keeping the rifle cooked for an hour or so at a time and I've had comments from some people who've left rifles cocked for days without any loss of power and even one who had an increase in power.
Good vid and shooting Davy, I had the same problem as you with the cradles....Couldn't find my 2 lol I'd left them out with 2 magpies in them and foxes came that night and took the dead decoys......With the cradles :) Need to make some more now If i can get hold of a couple of wire coat hangers, Keep up the good work, atvb, Les ;)
+Nite Hunter Thanks, i have a bad habit of setting them down in the grass and losing them but you can still get wire coat hangers on Amazon if your stuck.
The dead bird works much better than a plastic decoy plus i try and keep myself hidden and rarely leave the hide to pick up the birds i shot unless i have to change the decoy set up to try and bring the birds back for another opportunity.
How are you finding the weight of the HW97 just purchased a. 22 version pleased with it but don't know if i'd be confident hunting with out a rest.....ps not particularly weak but 9.5 pounds with scope is hard to hold steady for any length of time or is it a case of just keep practicing!
Well i'm used to working in the building trade so the weight isn't too much of a problem for me which is a good thing as i made the rifle heavier by putting the laminate stock on it. Practice will help a lot but i rarely take free hand standing shots and much prefer to take shots in a sitting or prone position and try to find something like a wall or gate to help steady my aim around the farmyards.
I've been watching a lot od masterpiece theatre- Downton, Sherlock, Indian summers, Home fires etc etc. l have to chuckle because all I hear in the background are magpies sqwaking their asses off I never noticed that until I started watching your videos, a bit off subject I know, just get a kick out of it. Great videos. I shoot a Xisico B26 in 22 custom tuned by Mike Melick out of Tennessee( Flying Dragon Air Rifles )an R9 copy but a tight well made gun.. Any way take care you have a friend in North Carolina
Thanks, i've found that if i leave the bird it might come back and give me a better shot but if you take a half chance and miss you'l never see it again.
what an amazin vid from a top of his game shooter. 100% agree. time...if the bird flies job done....hes not where hes not wanted. if it takes that time to ensure a clean despatch then that just as it should be. the john wayne shoot from the hip types who take a shot and wound to leave the bird squirel rabbit to die an agonising death should have their guns confiscated. no time whatsoever. love the videos and dont ever change for numpties wanting trick shots (not that i think for one minute you would lol) Dave
It really depends on what you want as at the uk 12ft/lb limit the .177 shots faster and flatter so less hold over or under for longer and shorter shots but it has a habit of punching right through close range birds so cleanly sometimes they can fly off some distance before dropping dead but very good for head shooting rabbits, were the bigger .22 seems to have more knock down power for heart shots with less flyers but a more curved trajectory.
+grayham homewood Yes they are both in the crow family of birds but the hooded crow is bigger with black head, wings and bib and gray chest and back while the jackdaw is smaller mostly black with a grayish neck and black cap.
great shooting as ever david,i too wait for the for the right shot,if it happens it happens, but if doesn't,then it will be there for next time,i would rather have a one shot clean kill, great vid
can I ask you how you decoy pigeons and corvids regarding the shot, can you shoot well freehand from a seated position? I've seen other videos on here where they are prone shooting from the bipod, the latter would seem uncomfortable after a while, I was thinking of making a hide where I can do both, lastly can you tell me what size your pack pack is for decoying, I was thinking about a 50 litre.
Shooting from a prone position is very stable but it can get very uncomfortable after a while and if the ground isn't flat or the grass or stubble long you can't always see your target, i rather shoot from a sitting position , the height gives you a better view of the target and i can shoot quite accurately using my knees as a rest but i can also put a horizontal bar into my hide when building it to allow me to rest the rifle on when shooting or a short set of shooting sticks when using a chair hide. When shooting crows from my chair hide a 40-50 litre pack is enough for me to carry some hide netting bait, camera and decoy but when pigeon shooting i use a 120 litre pack which i've added a few extra pockets too for small stuff as i take three nets and 10 full bodied decoys which take up a lot of room and a lot of other bits and bobs which all comes in handy when building my hide.
I'm from Randalstown myself David my old shooting mate from there always said I was to slow when we where shooting clays would their be any chance to meet you for a chat the next time I am back up in antrim
Sorry it is good to hear from someone so close to home but i'm always so nervous meeting up with someone from UA-cam as i have had some real nutters in the past leaving death threats.
+Remco Petersen Thank you, at the time the Bisley Magnums i was using were drilling right through the birds i shot doing the damage but not dropping them clean but I've better success with lighter pellets since.
Hi Hunters vermin, Excellent video as per usual; I totally agree with you for going with head shots only with .177 calibre. If .22 yes the shock factor would be effective for the heart & lung shot but the .177 won't. I totally back up your decision to stay the shot; anyone who thinks different is not a qualified hunter & shouldn't be shooting live quarry.
+Stephen Harris Thank you, at the time the Bisley Magnums i was using were drilling right through the birds i shot doing the damage but not dropping them clean but I've had much better success with lighter pellets since but still much prefer the .22cal for heart shoots on birds.
Hay mate good shooting and I'm the same .head shots r better hope to see more videos soon keep up the shooting and if u ever get a chance try a benjamin decovery 1.77 with ailmineam palits mint gun for the price tha
+Ben Sale Glad you liked the video. I don't get to see many benjamin decovery's here in N'Ireland but if i get a chance to shoot one i'l not turn it down.
No one should be critical of your shooting style, better to have clean and humane kill shots than injure the birds. Too many folks think they are better shots than they really are. Just go to any gun shop and listen the the complete and utter rubbish people say about their shooting. Keep up the good work
+Yorkie263 I know just what your talking about as i went lamping with a fella one night many years ago who clammed he could shoot rabbits at 100 yards with his high powered air rifle and to be truthful he could hit them but he just didn't care were and left one squealing in the middle of a field as he walked off down the road without even trying to finish it. That was the last time i went shooting with him.
Thanks very much, i know some people are just happy to put lead in them but i want them dead on the spot not to be chasing a wounded bird down the field.
Not very well i'm afraid if it was her fridge but thankfully i keep them in an old fridge in a shed just for the purpose otherwise i'd be the one getting shot.
because i do hunting too i shoot rats rabbits crows pigeons squirell and i shot and prepared it and im gunnu eat it tomorrow i am a younger shooter and subscriber
.....great hunt, love the shows.......no explaining needed on your strategy and shooting habits....your work speaks for itself.......
+Rick L
Thank you very much for that.
Another great upload. cant get enough of the magpies. Thanks😃
+Ricky HW100
Thanks glad you liked it.
Never yet had a Magpie or crow or pigeon carry on after a "side on, heart/ lung shot" with any of my sub/12`s in 177 and that`s nearly 40 years.
No problem David keep up the good videos always enjoy your shooting and commentary someone has to keep the vermin under control and keep those farmers happy
Ah when is a farmer ever happy anyway good to hear from you and maybe i'll see ya at Shanes Castle game fair if they ever have it again hopefully.
@@HuntersVermin just shot my first 3 woodpigeon today
Great video again David, totally agree with your " Don't shoot until you're sure" policy. I always look forward to a new video from you.

Thanks very much glad you liked it.
Interesting and entertaining video Dave . Thanks for your time to do this and sharing with us.
+Reg Sparkes
Thanks very much glad you enjoyed it.
I found out going for magpies i use a old stuffed fox and it works 💯%
Thanks David another cracking video. Nice use of a natural hide. Keep it up.

As always great video and excellent hunting ethics. A great view of the Irish countryside makes me long for greener pastures but the Arizona desert will have to do for now. Happy hunting!

Thanks very much, it must be very strange looking at such a green and wet landscape compared to the Arizona desert.
Too right!

Smart bird, the best one i saw was someone filmed a bird using bread as bait to catch fish off a jetty which blew my mind.
Love your commentary and patience young man ! Crack on !

Great educational video buddy, thx.
Great video as normal Davey, patience is a virtue, some of us just don't have it! Best regards as always.
+FRANKIE HOWARD
Thank you and having the patience to sit long hours quietly seems to be one of the keys to getting a shot at a magpie or hooded crow.
Great video David, your shooting is some of the best on you tube mate , keep up good work and stuff what other airguners think or say !!!

i am impressed!!!
and super cool you take the time when shooting.
Yes there's no point waiting all that time to just miss with a poorly timed shot.
What type of pellets do you use. In Denmark it is not alowed to use .177 air riffels for hunting. Do you think that .177 is just as good as .22 :)
another awesome video David , you shoot how you want to shoot mate .

I just watch your uploads twice now.
I recently was able to patchup my Hatsan at44, a piece of misery that had more leaks then pellets trough it.
Was thinking about trying to make an airgun/shotgun by milling a smooth bore barrel exctension at work tomorow (DIY grade of course).
If it gets any nice results or either becomes a pipe bomb i will let you know lol.
Gonna go out in the pouring rain now to put my pump on our my yard will be looking like a pool tomorow, terrible weather in Belgium now.

Good vid and shooting Davy,
I had the same problem as you with the cradles....Couldn't find my 2 lol

Thanks, i have a bad habit of setting them down in the grass and losing them but you can still get wire coat hangers on Amazon if your stuck.
Hello Davy,
Thank you for letting me know Amazon sell them :) Will get some ordered,
Keep up the Great Videos and Happy hunting,

Over here in Northwestern USA. Maypies very skidest. Spook at any movement fly away. Your use of decoy right thing bird will focus on.
The dead bird works much better than a plastic decoy plus i try and keep myself hidden and rarely leave the hide to pick up the birds i shot unless i have to change the decoy set up to try and bring the birds back for another opportunity.
Could you show us viewers how to setup dead bird for decoy please?
Smart idea.
I did a how to video on the cradle some years ago for AirgunTV that might still be up.

Too right i'd rather have clean misses all day or just not take the shot at all and look a right idiot than wound anything.
Well done David I agree with your shooting method , no points for missing. on another note you are in Northern Ireland but is that a Scottish accent?
dont tink so, country NI is softer accent than derry or belfast.
+Dean Morriss
Sorry am afraid not as I've lived all my live in NI but there can be a big difference in accents from one county to another across NI.

Nice shot sir , did u use round or pointed head pellets?
I always use round headed pellets (i think they were Bisley Magnums) as the pointed pellets can get damaged and be less accurate.
@@HuntersVermin ya thxxx and how about hollow pellets r they giv more damage , have u tried jsb Hades .177 r they good????
🙋♂️I have the same gun but in 18fp I use hades 15 89gr getting great results 👍

sorry *wounding

Thank you, at the time the Bisley Magnums i was using were drilling right through the birds i shot doing the damage but not dropping them clean but I've better success with lighter pellets since.
+HuntersVermin I second the original poster's sentiment - plus, now that magpie can go back and tell his friends what he's seen...

Thank you, at the time the Bisley Magnums i was using were drilling right through the birds i shot doing the damage but not dropping them clean but I've had much better success with lighter pellets since but still much prefer the .22cal for heart shoots on birds.
Graciasss

Glad you liked the video. I don't get to see many benjamin decovery's here in N'Ireland but if i get a chance to shoot one i'l not turn it down.
what is your scope?
+Fabien l'archer
At that time it was an old Simons 4-12x40 Pro Air.
No one should be critical of your shooting style, better to have clean and humane kill shots than injure the birds. Too many folks think they are better shots than they really are. Just go to any gun shop and listen the the complete and utter rubbish people say about their shooting. Keep up the good work

I know just what your talking about as i went lamping with a fella one night many years ago who clammed he could shoot rabbits at 100 yards with his high powered air rifle and to be truthful he could hit them but he just didn't care were and left one squealing in the middle of a field as he walked off down the road without even trying to finish it. That was the last time i went shooting with him.
Great vids Iam getting my hw97kt synth soon! What scope you do you have?
Thank you, I have an MTC mamba lite 3-12x44 mounted to the HW97.
two magpies didn't like this video :)
you do things correctly, vermin is there to be shot, not to be shot at, keep the respect.
Thanks very much, i know some people are just happy to put lead in them but i want them dead on the spot not to be chasing a wounded bird down the field.
Good judgement, way 2 jumpy that last 1

Thank you.
hows does Mrs HuntersVermin cope with dead birds and rabbits in your fridge?
Not very well i'm afraid if it was her fridge but thankfully i keep them in an old fridge in a shed just for the purpose otherwise i'd be the one getting shot.
Your just right waiting for that perfect shot. Nothing worse than a walking/flying wounded.
+Spiritual trigger
Too right i hate chasing after wounded magpies but it can happen to the best of us at times.

because i do hunting too i shoot rats rabbits crows pigeons squirell and i shot and prepared it and im gunnu eat it tomorrow i am a younger shooter and subscriber
Well staged. You should consider going into real estate (kidding). Not a bad day.
+sabr686
Not sure how much i'd get for the hide since there's no walls or roof to speak of.
Why are you always so slow to get a shot off?
I have to say I agree, very slow to send the shot. Frustrating to watch
More shooting, less yapping 😑😒
How ironic.. Maybe you should just keep your yapper shut and move on to a different channel
@@KrisFjord who called you here ma gott?
