Hi there. I have had The Augur for some time now but I use I use it for other roleplaying systems. You are tempting me to try out Starforged. Given how tailored this app is to Starforged do you think I could get away with buying just the PDF as I really don't want the physical books if I can avoid the cost?
I'm really enjoying The Augur and its great to see it steadily improving all the time. 👍

Absolutely, I only own the pdfs as well!! The Augur does a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to flipping between pages and tables, and for the "concept" of playing and how to approach different situations the Starforged PDF is pure gold... I have read it from cover to cover a few times and its such a wonderful book.

You can't even get a physical copy right now, and the whole Ironsworn system has been digitally distributed from the start. In other words, the pdf is perfect and the augur will make a lot of the bookkeeping and oracle searching a cinch!

@@keihinherault9577 Yeah, I just bought Starforged PDF. I might get the reference guide printed. The Augur sold me on Starforged more than Starforged did! 🙂

I've been playing Starforged for a few months now, and was watching the Bad Spot before that. This seems to support a lot more tactical (grid-based) combat/exploration, while by default I always have played "theater of the mind". I wonder, do you actually play it more tactically? If so, how do you think it compares to the more abstract "theater of the mind" style (does the system seem to support this)?

Hello, quite the opposite. I myself play mostly theater of the mind as well, I tend to play from the "overland" map.. or the star system map in this case. Basically I do move my player/ship token on the largest map (the system map in this case) but when it comes to combat I play it entirely in my mind and write it down in the journal.
I do not move ships/characters around the map while fighting. I find that having all these visual tools in the program really helps get in the narrative, not to mention not having to write so much down as the program generates and stores things like new NPCs, planets, dungeons and such.
For dungeon delving I do tend to move my character token from room to room, but I still do the combat theater of the mind, I don't use the grids and maps turn by turn as I fight.
Basically I use the entire visual aspect of the program as an aid to my imagination while I play, it helps me come up with stories and ideas and keep track of it all.

Im interested in playing a turn based 4x space-game like Masters of Orion/Stellaris, only on tabletop
does The Augur support that potential? Or is this program really only for 1-6 people party RPGs?

Hi, if these are games you can play on your own then the Augur might work as its a tool for solo roleplaying and not for playing with others. Now, I have not played those games as tabletops (I have played the computer games), so I dont really now exactly what you would need to play... The Augur has a dedicated dice roller if you would use that and the planet/ship procedural generator can help you to create locations and content for your game.. however it is geared for roleplaying so things are more on the scale of individual characters and ships and not so much on grand scale like it is for stellaris. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask them here!
