I 100% agree with you that the Preludes should have been RWD. H22 or H23 RWD would have been awesome. I would love to build one day. But right now I'm focusing on my SW20 MR2 GTS.
Been waiting for the preldues to come back around again. I had a 1991 cita prelude as my first car and always dreamed of this engine combo in my car! Glad someone went and made it happen.
Thank you for show casing a Prelude. Great video and commentary, minus a couple of slip ups, lol. They're an awesome car, my family is currently down to only 4 of them after having upwards of 7. To all the Prelude owners out there.. Keep them between the lines and " StayLuding ! "
This generation of Prelude handled better than any car I've ever driven in my life. I've owned 4 different Preludes from 89 to 91 and I had one that was the same color/model as the one you're reviewing in this video. I had it slammed on skunk 2 coil overs and I could take on ramps that suggested 25MPH at 90 MPH and it would hug the pavement and never even start to slide out whatsoever. It was an absolute blast to drive and that was even with the SI motor and NOT having a turbo and all the upgrades this one you're reviewing has. I still have a 90 Civic EF Hatchback Si sitting out in my garage that's in excellent shape. I got it from my best friends family after he unfortunately took his life a few years ago and I want to swap a K20 into it but don't have that kind of money laying around. I hope that one day I'll be able to get the swap though in his memory. He always wanted a white EF hatch with a K20 swap so I have to make it happen some day! Til then I have it sitting in the garage covered and kept the same way he had it when he was alive.
I test drove a 91 black si prelude that was very well maintained back in early 2000. My love for Honda's began that day . That is a beautiful car and that sound!
I've got a 3rd gen 89 2.0 SI Prelude, all stock with 230k miles that I daily drive. Reliable and EVERYTHING WORKS. The stock car is incredibly fun to drive, I couldnt imagine having 300+ HP in it. Im gonna drive mine till it blows and then park it for an eventual swap. The looks/lines/body of the 3rd gen prelude are so unique. Great find, happy that you found this car to review!!!
You do bring up a good point on the interiors. I've noticed even really beat up Hondas, the interiors are still in pretty good shape. If I look at my s14 interior wrong, it breaks.
I LOVE preludes! Hell yeah they should bring them back! My friend had one in Hugh school a 4th gen and that thing was pretty freaking fast. The 4th gen will always be my favorite with the H22 in it. Something about the design I just really like and I’m a sucker for that really cool digital wrap around dash hahaha
A guy in my high school, I think around 1999, had one of these in silver, lowered pretty significantly for the time, on some 16" 5-spoke wheels, if I recall, and I remember just really liking the car because of how low slung it is...the roof line is already low at stock, there is barely any fender above the front wheels...they just look awesome slammed. I have always just loved the proportions of these cars. Oh, and flip ups. Who doesn't love those.
Man's that's a gorgeous example. I love preludes look and definitely will have one at some point. I don't think they should make a new one though, they'll most likely blow it somehow.
My first car in 2001 was a 97 5th gen and I loved it. Another negative point to the 5th gen was the price. My father paid like 15k back in 2001 for that car which is $22k in today’s money for a used Honda with 32k miles on it. They were going for $25k new back in 97 which is pretty crazy when you think about it. $25k in 1997 is a $40k car in today’s market. She was def a head turner

@miatasforever I mean, in the newest gen of the mx5 they did a pretty good job. The return of the civic type r turned out good. Despite the hate, both the NSX and supra are statistically pretty nice. So I dont see why the prelude would be some kind of guaranteed failure
Corey Stuber the mx5 is the outlier, they managed to make everyone happy by staying true to what made the last car great. The new civic type r, supra, and nsx are good, but in different ways than their old namesakes. The new prelude could end up being a good car, but not be like the old (I.E. it would be reliable and comfy but be heavy, auto only, not very rev-happy, hybrid, and computerized)
I love the this gen Prelude. I had a white si and I loved it so much. I love the way it looks, especially after body matching the black trim, 17" wheels and Integra Type R front lip. It was incredibly dependable. It wasn't fast, but it was sure as hell fun to drive. I miss it dearly.
I remember my Boss owning one of those. He would always praise it would go 500k. He had 250-300k at the time. It was a nice car. This guy did a fantastic job on his. The Yellow looks cool too. I need a turbo honda in my life.
I really like them. I think the 3g are the nicest ones with their really really low hood-lines. The 4 & 5gen are sadly really riced out most of the time, when you see them. I'm 17 and I own a 2gen with a nice bodykit myself, bc I couldn't find any nice 3gens here in Austria🇦🇹. I just really like the design of the 2&3 and how rare they are. I'm planning on swapping a F20B into my 2. Gen, but it's really tuff and expensive bc of the laws here in Austria. So I will have to wait until I'm done with school😁
My favorite thing about having one as a first car, a high school car, was the effortless steering (I could steer at a stop with my pinky), the effortless brakes, and the perfect visibility and low hood line. Its amazing driving these, just dont get the shitty 4 speed auto and carbonated engine combo I had, my lord it was gutless.
That shape and contour of a Prelude was always masculine and cool. Even though the 4th gen was slightly different as they went for softer edges and “electric dashboard”, I think all 5 generations were handsome in their own ways. I once owned a 97 5th gen and loved it. Always wanted to refresh one someday… a 3 or 4th gen would be nice.
I've owned a lot of 3rd Gen Preludes. I just bought my 6th one. A 1989 Honda Prelude Si with 143,000 miles on it. I love the Prelude way better than the Civic. I've been driving a 1998 Civic with a D16Y8 Vtec and when I put this Prelude on the road 3 weeks ago I just stopped driving the Civic. There is nothing like taking a back road with lots of curves in a Prelude.

Had an 89 si. Prelude. This video made me miss that car. MILES OF SMILES!
It sounds like Paul Walkers Eclipse in the first fast and furious.
The cars in F&F used different car exhausts. Like the RX7, used some audio clips from a 2jz
Adjacent to jdmlatinos comment, the eclipse sounds where actually from the single cam turbo engine from the one of the black Honda’s in the movie
The Eclipse's audio is from a Crx turbo, so it also has a Honda engine, thats why they sound similar
You guys are both wrong BRIAN’s Eclipse Exhaust note was from a Integra GSR turbo
Craig Lieberman confirmed this
The prelude NEEDS to come back! Such an great Honda sports car
No, honda would fuck it up. Better to just love and restore the older ones since they are so great
@miatasforever I mean, in the newest gen of the mx5 they did a pretty good job.
Hey love to see lude get some love I am 4 gen owner myself.and don't forget to keep luding🖐❤
The integra dc2 front lip fit on a r grn prelude? What do you mean wirh after body matching the black trim?
I own a bone stock rusted out 3rd gen and I love it!
Woody172 you and me both 🥰🥰
YES YESS YESSS. PLEASE. IM SO HAPPY THIS IS A VIDEO. I HAVE A YELLOW 89. just like this 67k miles this video made my week
I really hope Doug DeMuro reviews either the 3rd, 4th, or 5th Gen some day
Or 2nd!!!
I have a 3rd gen and reached out to him! He got back to me recently so lets hope we can secure a meet up date.
@@brad9023 nice!! Would really love to hear Dougs opinion on that car😁
Nah we don't need him to... The guy's a fruitcake.
Bradley Wright it better have 4WS, lol
Great review of a charming car. My friend's older brother had an 89 4wsSi when we were in school. Adored that car.
This cars beautiful makes me really want to buy one.
I own a 5th gen prelude and I absolutely love it such a great car
🤙🏾the f20b motor is perfect for boost mmmm I wish I was driving this light weight chassis 😍
HoMiE327 perfect for allmotor too. Mines makes power pass 9k on the dyno and I’ve revved it to 9k for 6 years on pro2 cams.
That is a sweet ride. And those flip up lights...nostalgic!!!
I need to get a fast FWD drive car, I love RWD, but I need to open my mind to FWD
I just got my 1st fwd 4cyl since my prelude. It's a 250hp modded r53 and it's a fricken blast !
RSX Type S or 8th gen civic si
Focus st?
Mazdaspeed 3?
Acura TL 4th gen
I remember my Boss owning one of those. He would always praise it would go 500k. He had 250-300k at the time. It was a nice car. This guy did a fantastic job on his. The Yellow looks cool too. I need a turbo honda in my life.
Love it only seen one in my uk home town and its standard and driven by an old guy .
funny how i just bought a 4th gen and now so many youtubers are praising them. makes me feel better about my decision
3rd gen is my favorite looking lude props to the owner for building a very clean Honda 👌
It has a ying yang spinny thang.
Nagasaki noisemaker
Teriyaki turbine
And many more...
I've had an 89 4WS for 10 years. The third gen will always be my favorite... they can't do it justice trying to bring it back though.
Am i the only one who loves the 5th gen predule the most? It looks the most "JDM" to me. Looks like it should be rwd too.
I have one
@@Real1ne_ great car. Is it a type sh by any chance?
@@MaxSpeedMike unfortunately its not
I will be doing an update video and stoey behind it
My favorite thing about having one as a first car, a high school car, was the effortless steering (I could steer at a stop with my pinky), the effortless brakes, and the perfect visibility and low hood line. Its amazing driving these, just dont get the shitty 4 speed auto and carbonated engine combo I had, my lord it was gutless.
Don’t touch it Honda. 3-5g preludes are perfect
This is one of the weirdest S13 Coupes I’ve ever seen
Its Sylvia by Honda :)
People mistake my 5th gen for an s14
I've owned a lot of 3rd Gen Preludes. I just bought my 6th one. A 1989 Honda Prelude Si with 143,000 miles on it. I love the Prelude way better than the Civic. I've been driving a 1998 Civic with a D16Y8 Vtec and when I put this Prelude on the road 3 weeks ago I just stopped driving the Civic. There is nothing like taking a back road with lots of curves in a Prelude.
Where's the DA integras bro no love for those cars
Junior Barron most are rusted and riced out clappers nowadays
@Matt Gallant only if you know how to drive them the car doesn't matter
The prelude is a great car but I'm just saying the DA is never mentioned I love these cars it's just Underrated
This is a beautiful BA Prelude. Hope these cars make a comeback!
