The girl in the first case that stepped in has my respect for defending a stranger who obviously needed help, I hope she and the other victim are doing okay.
it was a situation that checked a lot ofboxes to make her more likely to decide to help: no or very few other bystanders to make her feel less responsible, an extremely relateable victim of the same age, gender, and race, enrolled in the same college, and the location was basically a gated community in which both lived, which likely provided both increased confidence and the sense that one has some authority to decide what the rules are. and I suppose she also would have expected backup because she knew other people would hear... but apparently not, it sounds like none of the other witnesses, including even ones who saw part of the first girl's attack, intervened at all. 😒
it's so sad seeing the first woman being hurt and not going to the hospital, her bruises need care. I hope hospital visits will be free in the future for us citizens.
I wish that when they are the victim the hospital charges are something the criminal has to pay for in prison (since some can make money in prison) and after, as debt that follows them, or if someone bonds them out, it’s something that has to be paid in order to get them bonded. I just will never understand why the victim has so much to pay (mentally, physically, and financially).
The worst part about the first case, is that she clearly needs medical assistance but she refuses bc she knows it's too damn expensive. I hope she's recovering from all of this.

yeah they use that kind of language to downplay the situation and use your conditioning against you, since you've probably gotten into heated arguments or fights with friends or family and there's been that moment where one of you've been like "okay, calm down now" and so you've both mutually done so. an assailant knows that normal people will rationally, automatically begin to slow down because of their previous experiences. so it gives them an opening.

Super impressed by the cop talking to the girl outside; he had such a quick reaction as the guy ran out. I can’t imagine how many scenarios he has been in before to be that prepared to react.
Going into those scenarios you should always expect any suspect to run. From the looks of it he was watching from a distance and as soon as you see flailing inside, he already knew he was trying to make a run for it. you also see on the other bodycam that he was already making uneasy movements, and his coworker was moving around with him. they both were expecting him to make a run for it.

I was a child of an army/war veteran. He was strict and I got in trouble for things that weren't even my fault, or for things I didn't understand... After a while, you start to worry you'll get in trouble for things that really aren't even your fault. That's why it's important to teach your kid WHY they're in trouble. I'm 25 now and I only remember my punishments, not the lesson...
I'm sorry that you had to go through that. I can relate a little, since my parents have also always been strict. My older sibling and I would get in trouble for anything and everything and would get spanked. I also don't remember the lesson, but just the fear and pain. I was camping with my husband, his friend, and some family of his friend. The friend ends up having a cops episode moment and wants to start yelling and pushing his 14 year old stepson down in the dirt, then drag him by his leg saying "You need to go cool off in the car." Nobody did shit. Not my husband, not the boy's bio mom, not that person's dad or whoever the other 2 people were. Just me.....a 4' 11" little woman with back and knee issues. I knew of someone wrongfully convicted (long story crazy ex wife wanted more money and to ruin him, it was all proven to be 100% fake accusations) and when he was taken to jail before bailed out by his new wife he was warned to not let others know what he was charged with by the cops themselves.
First case, the girl who intervened and became a victim herself is bringing tears to me face. Same here, she is a genuine hero. Such a huge and sefless person with so much bravery, determination and compassion in the face of a terrifying situation. During the whole video I wanted so much for someone she knew to be there and support her. I really hope that she did get that support and comfort and that she is incerdibly proud of herself. She is an inspiration and the world would be a much better place if there were more people like her. Her actions are truly humbling.

the first event is just unfathomable. We have a girl that tried to start up a conversation because she thought it was a nice thing to do, and then seconds later she gets assaulted. That experience will haunt her, and she won't be as positive as she first was.
It's not unfathomable. I've had men try to assault me just for looking at them. I'm a homebody who doesn't get out much and keeps to herself, so if it's happening to me I can only imagine what it's like for women who are putting themselves out there. Events like this are probably a lot more common than you think.

I worked with him for a couple of days, this all happened in my town. He was a total creep and made a comment one time saying i'm much stronger than him. I'm 17. He's currently 19 I believe. When I was left alone with him one time (my boss didn't know he was a creep), he had made multiple comments and told me disgusting personal information about himself. He is a disgusting individual and I am so thankful that he is finally getting publicity. He needs to be locked up forever.
I loved the female officer doing her job but also trying to be gentle with the girls when they were explaining what happened. Even when she said "just chill" she knew that was not the perfect thing to say, but she was trying to make them feel safe :(
University Police may be less militarized than town / city police, but they are better trained in de-escalation and soft skills. Universities care about their students and issues on campus are usually not very violent and just social problems like noise complaints or drinking

it was a situation that checked a lot ofboxes to make her more likely to decide to help: no or very few other bystanders to make her feel less responsible, an extremely relateable victim of the same age, gender, and race, enrolled in the same college, and the location was basically a gated community in which both lived, which likely provided both increased confidence and the sense that one has some authority to decide what the rules are. and I suppose she also would have expected backup because she knew other people would hear... but apparently not, it sounds like none of the other witnesses, including even ones who saw part of the first girl's attack, intervened at all. 😒

I wish that when they are the victim the hospital charges are something the criminal has to pay for in prison (since some can make money in prison) and after, as debt that follows them, or if someone bonds them out, it’s something that has to be paid in order to get them bonded. I just will never understand why the victim has so much to pay (mentally, physically, and financially).
The worst part about the first case, is that she clearly needs medical assistance but she refuses bc she knows it's too damn expensive. I hope she's recovering from all of this.

Going into those scenarios you should always expect any suspect to run. From the looks of it he was watching from a distance and as soon as you see flailing inside, he already knew he was trying to make a run for it. you also see on the other bodycam that he was already making uneasy movements, and his coworker was moving around with him. they both were expecting him to make a run for it.

We had a couple people stalk us at the mall with our daughter last December. We NOTICED immediately after getting off the bus because we pay attention. We NOTICED them skulking around corners and openly staring at her as she ran around with us right there for hours, no matter how far we walked through the mall. They just kept skulking around the corners watching her.
I finally had my husband hide in a restroom and watch as I ran her around an open area at a store opening that wasn't very crowded, and soon as he disappeared, the guy got on his phone and told his partner to pull the car up now and he was gonna get it done. He nearly shat himself when he realized my husband was standing next to him and ran. Heard him telling the other person "they caught me, hurry up!"
If parents do their jobs and actually watch their kids and surroundings, this disgusting cråp wouldn't happen as often.

After a while, you start to worry you'll get in trouble for things that really aren't even your fault. That's why it's important to teach your kid WHY they're in trouble. I'm 25 now and I only remember my punishments, not the lesson...
I'm sorry that you had to go through that. I can relate a little, since my parents have also always been strict. My older sibling and I would get in trouble for anything and everything and would get spanked. I also don't remember the lesson, but just the fear and pain. Same here, she is a genuine hero. Such a huge and sefless person with so much bravery, determination and compassion in the face of a terrifying situation. During the whole video I wanted so much for someone she knew to be there and support her. I really hope that she did get that support and comfort and that she is incerdibly proud of herself. I worked with him for a couple of days, this all happened in my town. He was a total creep and made a comment one time saying i'm much stronger than him. I'm 17. He's currently 19 I believe. When I was left alone with him one time (my boss didn't know he was a creep), he had made multiple comments and told me disgusting personal information about himself. He is a disgusting individual and I am so thankful that he is finally getting publicity. He needs to be locked up forever.
I loved the female officer doing her job but also trying to be gentle with the girls when they were explaining what happened. Even when she said "just chill" she knew that was not the perfect thing to say, but she was trying to make them feel safe :(
honestly she was wonderful. so kind! if i am ever unfortunately in a similar situation, she's exactly the kind of officer i'd want to be on the scene
University Police may be less militarized than town / city police, but they are better trained in de-escalation and soft skills. Universities care about their students and issues on campus are usually not very violent and just social problems like noise complaints or drinking

Yeah, she was amazing. I had a stalker on my campus and the female officer who helped me was incredible. She did her job but also was so kind.
