I could imagine this guy visiting Mulan for some reason like, he transfered to a new army post near Mulan's village and he could see her, then since he was recognized by the emperor for defending the country, for sure he also got some reward and promotion and can ask for a match with Mulan and 💥! they gotta end up with each other.
After reading Chinese novels now a days, Generals or something with higher position in armies (novel ancient china) having a wife who can hold sword is no problem and always a good match.
Aft 20yrs, since i was a kid, I always reapeat watching this movie. Love the story, thank you disney for being a part of my childhood days💜

I think Disney divided Shang as a general and as a future lover of Mulan. In more, I think something similar happened with Tamina and Farat in the prince of persia movie. Because the live action version doesn't even look like the Mulan poem.

Powerful from the beggining to the end, no need to do training, not an important event that changes her, she has abilities that no one else in her world has, she is "not like the other girls", not a mistake that leads to a real develop. Only a world ruled by man that opresses her, she is right they are all wrong. I love female strong characters like de 1998 version or the chinese one, not this trash
