Nope. Given throttle lag elimination is my goal, a tune isn’t necessary. Plus I like that I can install it myself and change up the setting without the hassle of tracking down a tuner👍
I got mine installed this week and it is great. I am 73 and had a little problem with the install but they helped me with a video in one day. Great company.
Don't mess with the Pedal Commander, put that money toward getting the Overland Torque Tune. Sooooooooo much better and so many more advantages like perfect shift points, no more gear hunting etc, better mileage, yet more power and torque.
For throttle lag elimination, nothing beats the Pedal Commander. Self installed and adjustable by the owner. No risk messing with the trucks ECU and tracking down someone else to change settings. Adding the Pedal Commander is an easy decision👍
I keep seeing people recommending the Overland Torque Tune but has anyone actually asked Toyota if this voids the factory and or premium warranty? If my 23 Tacoma starts gear hunting I’ve got issues. I decided on the six speed manual so the pedal commander is a great choice for me.
My G2 never hunted for the right gear. This was the first thing I noticed when I got my 22 G3. Hi-way driving I hate it. Have been thinking of trying a tuning to see if it will make a difference. I’m not sure because it’s still the same gearing and engine so the power range is the same
I am in Oklahoma and am unable to find a shop to do the Overland Torque Tune. I did speak with a Dyno Tune shop that said if I could find the tune available that it WOULD void my warranty
does it help with low rpm on high gear ? min is to quick to change to high gear...and have a bad noise before change to lower gear like a knocking noise from engine
Ott tune is the only way to go imo. For a little more $ the trans is smooth as well as the throttle lag is gone. And no limp mode. No comparison with the pedal commander
Completely different animal. Pedal Commander eliminates throttle lag without changes to the ECU. Pedal Commander is all that’s needed to wake up the Tacoma. Plus, you can adjust and install it yourself 👍
does it help transmission to change gears or what exactly does that do?? the engine and transmission are the same........so what is the difference???????
Hi Rob, I mounted mine in front of the Parking Brake on the left side of the center console. I am still seeing which setting works best for me. Right now I am working with Sport -2 and and getting 19.3 MPG around town. It seems to be a great piece of gear!
How long did it take for your Tacoma to shut off when you left the driver side door open during installation? Been waiting about 20 minutes from my Tacoma to shut off so I can plug it in.
Close to one hour. Make sure you don’t shut the door or use anything electric in the truck (seats) or the process will start over! Keep the fob away too👍
@@RobMotive yeah, mine just shut off. When I disconnected the cable to the top of the accelerator. The infotainment screen came on again, but the lights stayed off. Good to go? Or should I wait for the screen to turn off again before installing.
@@RobMotive did completely turn off again about 10 minutes later. Was able to install commander now without anything turning back on. Thank you for your quick help.
I assume you are referring to a tune of some sort? No way I'd let someone in a parking lot mess with my trucks brain. For throttle lag, Pedal Commander is the way to go👍
Wow Rob I was about to say, "he must've gotten bored of it" 🤦🏾♂️😆😆, I'm still rockin my sprint booster, like you, I won't drive my taco without a lag eliminator 😎🌮
I have a 2006 2.7L and really wonder if this would actually make any difference? I had a sct tune on my 4 cylinder 2016 Mustang. And it turned it into a beast. I can get it cleared and a tune done on my Tacoma. But not sure the actual cost till I hear from them. Is there anybody out there that has this on their 2.7L and did it make any difference ?
Love the Pedal Commander! Installed mine much as you have very low in the footwell. Bluetooth is excellent. Use mine in ECO just shuttling around town and get better than 20 mpg. Punched it up to Sport + yesterday while towing better than 5,000 pounds and got that quick pedal response I needed! You got us ALL! Was questioning HOW you would ever remove the COMMANDER! Good one!!
Can you comment on whether or not you know what is up with the Tacoma Pedal commander users who complain of error codes caused by the Pedal Commander? There seems to be a not insignificant percentage of users mantioning that in product reviews. Thanks.
User error and improper installation. Like any other product, if installed or used improperly you can have problems. I’ve had mine for years now with no issues.
Had this device on my 2015 Tundra and it does work but will not be ever-lasting. Had for approx. 2 1/2 years and started to see on my dash an error alert. "Traction Control Disabled". I could start my truck but it would not move. Unplugged my negative cable and reattached then it worked and drove fine for a while. Removed this device after the 3rd instance and haven't had any issues since, more than 6 months. At $299 for 2 1/2 years is okay but will not purchase another one. Just my 2 cents...
Hey Rob. When you run your pedal commander in Sport mode, since it makes your throttle more sensitive, do you find it dangerous when reversing? I read that the Banks Pedal Monster is one of the few throttle controls that shuts off when in reverse. lol. Luckily, I don't care about the throttle lag as I only view my Tacoma as a means of getting my fishing and diving gear to and from the ocean. Also, Oahu is a congested Rock that has no room for quick accelerations. lol. Too small of a State for Cruise Control to be useful.
There is a bit of a danger, you have to dial it in to your use. For example, we back up into our driveway. When wet, it would spin tires, so we dialed it down. Also, when somebody drives your truck, say Discount Tire tech, you should think to warn them. i saw mine get launched out of the parking spot the other day, lesson learned.
@@davidwelday3276 That makes sense. As the person who uses the truck the most, you'd be more used to the more sensitive throttle because you drive the truck everyday. A Service Person or even a Valet might be really surprised not knowing that the pedal commander was installed. Maybe you need to dial it down to the least sensitive setting if your ever take the truck into the shop to be worked on. I would not want a really old grandmother getting into a vehicle with a more sensitive throttle. lol. My friends grandmother drove her Camry right through her garage storage door by trying to reverse it in, and this was without something like a pedal commander installed. lol.
The Pedal Commander is epic. I’ve owned three forerunners and I drive them forever and I’m 58 years old. Pedal Commander is the best tech I bought in forever and I work in Tech. It’s epic..
The Bluetooth interface is da bomb! Neat animation and graphics. Plus there is the MPH display as a backup to the Taco's speedo. However, the haters will say, "That shot of the hidden head unit could have been taken in any truck." Some people!
I had the Sprint Booster installed and worked great for a while. But then I twice received a powertrain malfunction code message, once while I was going downhill on the 8 freeway San Diego mountains. Pretty scary. Couldn't drive faster than 50-55 mph and the throttle wasn't responding. Removed Sprint Booster and haven't had an issue in a year. Ever heard of this or experienced this before? Lots of online threads with folks having the same issue.
I seriously thought this was related to a video I saw of some dude saying you were wrong about the pedal commander over a tune. Using your name to get views. Honestly.. I just skipped it.
I'm still using the Sprint Booster you recommended a few years back, and it is still working just fine for me.
Have you ever tried a tune? I have the kdmax tune (need to upgrade to the newest tune) but I love it.
Nope. Given throttle lag elimination is my goal, a tune isn’t necessary. Plus I like that I can install it myself and change up the setting without the hassle of tracking down a tuner👍

It’s a great addition for sure👍
Before you had the Pedal Commander you had the Sprint Booster. I still have mine and prefer the smaller footprint.
I have mine installed the same way. The control unit is tucked behind the center console on mine

What are your thoughts & recommendations on the best dashboard cover? I’d like to minimize the reflection off the dashboard/window.
Honestly…I’m not a fan of them. I’ve never used one.
Any issues with check engine lights and error codes?
None👍

One of the best Tacoma mods IMO👍
Does it work for a 21 Tacoma acces cab 2.7 4 Cyl
Don’t know why not. Check the site to verify👍
Question Rob what's your thoughts on evkcar throttle controller?
I have Pedal Commander. It’s awesome 👍
Does it affect cruise control at all? Or does it only affect manual accelerator use?
I have only noticed its affect on acceleration from the pedal. You should consult with Pedal Commander regarding cruise control.

@@RobMotive one more quick question. Do I have to hook up the Bluetooth app. Or can I just use it on the module itself. Without any app.

Sprint booster vs pedal commander. Which one is better and why?
I choose Pedal Commander because of it’s Bluetooth connectivity and larger, easier to use controller 👍

Have you tried the Ingen Throttle Controller
Nope. I’m happy with the Pedal Commander 👍
