  • This Holga Pinhole Wide Camera review covers the features of the camera and the results I obtained shooting a roll of Ilford Delta 100 black and white film. The Holga Wide Pinhole (or 120WPC, as it’s officially known) will use any 120 film, though I recommend 100 speed or slower, which is explained in the video. I really enjoyed the camera and the resulting images and definitely want to explore it more.
If you’re interested in seeing more of my photography you can find me on Instagram @jimmytphoto, where I post regularly.
Over the years I’ve collected a rag tag assemblage of cameras and this UA-cam channel is giving me the motivation to run some film through them, check them out, and share my findings with everyone. I’m a bit of a camera geek and have been shooting since the 80s, when I was gifted a Nikon EM.

The vignetting isn't caused by the shuttermechanism. It's the 0.4 inch/ 1cm ring around the lens thats the culprit. If you use a carpet knife to cut away the plastic around the lens in a rectangular form you won't get any more vignetting. Cut at an angle. I also cut away most of the big ring you attach the lenshood to but I think that's not necessary, but I could still attach my lenshood!

    Nice video !
I shoot with two pinhole cameras: the Holga 120WPC and the Zero Image. The two cameras are very similar in pinhole size, pinhole distance, and 18mm equivalent angle-of-view.
As you said, the Holga comes with a 6x9cm mask and a 6x12cm mask. I only use the 6x9cm mask because I was not satisfied with the 6x12cm images.
The Zero Image comes with dividers that give me the option of shooting 6x4.5, 6x6, 6x7, or 6x9cm images. However, since I have no desire to shoot any of the smaller sizes, I only use it to shoot 6x9cm images (3:2 aspect ratio).
I really like using the two cameras for shooting 6x9cm pinhole images because I am able to capture a total of 16 images before I need to reload.
Sometimes, I also carry a Fuji X-Pro digital camera set on 3:2 aspect ration and mounted with a 12mm lens (18mm equivalent angle-of-view) as scout camera in order to determine exposure and to obtain the best composition.

Great video and shoot. Thanks for sharing. I just ordered one of these, along with a tripod and cable, and I'm excited to give it a try. I also can report that as of December 2022, the Android Light Meter - Free app has a custom values option that lets you add f135.

I own a Sprocket Rocket camera. I would love to see photos taken with a roll of 35mm film loaded in your camera! The images would go over the sprocket holes, an effect I love, but your camera would probably take up more than the 2 frames per shot that a Sprocket Rocket achieves. You would get “ultra panoramic” sprocket hole photos. That would be awesome! It should relatively easy to load a roll of 35mm film in a camera like yours. Put some foam at the top and bottom of the roll so it stays centred, and cover the red window with black tape. Knowing how much to crank the film after each shot would probably be the trickiest part.

I enjoyed your look at the pinhole wide-format Holga Jimmy! I used to live in Cleveland (and Minneapolis), and seeing you out there under those heavy overcast gray winter skies reminded me of my time there, though I know you're in Cinci. I live in AZ now and don't miss those heavy heavy days, but it's great for those moody shots you got... grin. Thanks again for taking the time to do this video, I really enjoyed it. Cheers!

Wonderful video, would love to see more! You're a natural and the quality of the video/audio great and nice editing too. Got my Holga-120WPC for xmas and on our first hike I lost the instruction manual! I loaded my 120 film and now trying to figure out all of what I need to do to take my first shot. :D

I wonder if the sharpness could be improved by swapping out the lens. I seen on the web sight for Reality So Subtle that they sell individual lens, or a set of 5 different sizes for people wanting to make their own camera.

Nice images and good video. I also shoot this camera, and disliked the vignette, but after reading the comments here that is solved :-)
I use a 3D printed 6x17 pinhole as well, but the Holga is much easier to shoot. But 6x17 gives awesome wide panoramic shots, you should try that

If it had a 6x6 mask as well, I'd buy one.

You could buy the Holga Stereo 120 Pinhole and cover one of the lenses et voila you have a 6x6 frame.

Thank you Jimmy! Really appreciate the video.
I’m wondering if the sharpness is affected by the movement from that plastic lens cover moving back and forth? I’m going to try to weigh the camera down to prevent that movement and will let you know what I get.
