Utah Cattle Drive Special Episode - America's Heartland

  • On this three-day working vacation, the five guests were dubbed "the dudes." They came from all over the U.S. and Europe to see what it's like to be a cowboy or cowgirl for several days. The dudes rode alongside the Cox and Heaton families, driving 200 cattle from lower elevations to the summer grazing grounds just outside Bryce Canyon National Park. The annual drive continues a longtime family tradition, and gives urban guests a better understanding of life on a working cattle ranch.

      Yes... family cattle ranching....part of America's history and heritage....it's really neat that they take on "greenhorns" who want to experience that way of life....I did some of that back in the 1970s up in Eastern Washington state for a Summer....and did branding as well ....plus helped around the farms in the region....it was 7 days a week..sun up to sundown.......a way of life....

    I enjoyed this Ranch just after my 60th Birthday. Absolutely the real deal and one of the most memorable experiences of my life. Of course, I'm a hopeless romantic and Louis L'Amour fan!

    It was me privilege to ride with Ray and Karl Heaton on roundup down on the Arizona strip on the north rim of the Grand Canyon. I loved every second of it, and the Heaton family. It was a SAD day when Ray passed on. Good ride Ray, good ride. I miss Alton and the TIGHT community we had there. Those were the days of adventure. Thanks for welcoming our family to the community. Many meals shared with the Heaton family. God bless all.

    I know this off topic. I don't know much about horse breeds but is a cutting horse and an american quarter horse or simply quarter horse the same kind of horse? I've looked it up online but the information is unclear and unsettling. Thanks! :)

    • @jasonbutler6679
      @jasonbutler6679 10 років тому +2

      The American Quarter Horse is a composite Breed meaning the breed was originally developed by more than one breed of horse. The cutting horse refers to a term used for describing a discipline or event that the horse is used for. That meaning the horse can be any Breed providing the horse can perform that function.

    • @aitornavarro6597
      @aitornavarro6597 10 років тому

      Jason Butler Thanks for the insight! What is the most common breed used for cutting purposes, functionalities?

    • @jasonbutler6679
      @jasonbutler6679 10 років тому +1

      Generally the American Quarter Horse, although the breeding in the American Paint Horse and Appaloosa have been using Quarter horses as a standard to cross with. This has allowed the other breeds to become as strong as the Quarter Horses in these areas; in that, I recognize the Quarter Horse still on average is the breed to recogn with in the main events especially with the efforts to recognize and publicize efforts to better the breed through genetics and research.

    “It’s enough to rattle the sturdiest of cowboy’s nerves”. No it’s not, sturdy cowboys do stuff like that all the time only city folk get all nerved up and then think everyone else must be as well. Don’t try to emasculate all men, as real men are a sturdy bunch and can handle hard work and stress.

    I don't understand putting two small children on a horse without a third person Pony the horse. I would be afraid if the horse should stumble or spook or take off for any reason those two small children riding in one saddle would not be able to handle it. How did the small children know how to steer the horse or tell the horse what to do. I think those two small children were too young to go on a trail ride like this. Also the adult that had the small child behind him in the saddle to me that is also very dangerous and very risky. Small children should stay at home.
