- This is my good friend and neighbor Mr Thomas Summers from right here in Morrison TN. Plowing his garden with his Belgian mules “Pat” and “Pearl.” He goes through the complete process of getting the mules up and ready to plow. Followed by putting them up after he’s done. They don’t come like this anymore.
The love of a Mule from a man that loves his Mules.
Respect between the three can easily be seen.
He is 83and the mules are 22 and they are a matched pair for sure.
Mr SummersGod Bless you sir.
Thank you! And thank you for watching and commenting… Take care
I am proud to say I've known The Legend, Mr. Summers, nearly my entire life. ❤️
He’s a good one for sure :) not just a good mule skinner but also good person too
That man is so calm and quiet with his team. They are bonded for sure. I bet he has a lot of knowledge to share of being a teamster.
He most definitely does. He’s forgot more than I’ll ever know no doubt! Thanks for watching and commenting! Love hearing from everyone
Watching Mr Summers , Pat and Pearl is sooo rewarding!!!An incredibly bonded team!!!!❤❤❤❤❤ Congrats!!!
Yes they are! And thank you kindly. Also, thanks for taking time to watch and comment. Take care and do come again, please.
Plowing and mowing with horses or mules are among the most rewarding activities on the farm, about the same category as logging. Seems to me, it's mostly us older guys who are hanging on. I am 76 and still enjoy it.
Yessir for sure. We really enjoy those activities too. We mowed 30 acres last year here at Mr Summers place with I think was 8 or 9 teams in one day. It was fun. Thank you sir for watching and commenting
As a little girl in E TX, I walked behind my Grandpa plowing with mules. I actually planted peanuts walking behind him. This is one of my most cherished memories.
My first walking plow experience was standing between the plow handles with my grandpa and his mules. As he plowed the garden with them. Where I was raised in lower Alabama, we too had lots of peanuts and cotton. Times were harder back then, but people were so much better towards each other. And people helped one another also. My pa had a dear affection for his mules! Fact, he always said “if it weren’t for our mules boy, we would’ve died!” His last team died in around 1992 and they were close to 40 years old. Thanks again for watching and commenting! I always love hearing from folks. Thanks! Oh, you can find videos on my channel of me plowing with a walking plow also. Just go to my channel, hit playlists, and scroll down to “plowing vids.” And it’ll be there! Thx again
@@zachodom74868:07 Mmmm man

Greetings from Vancouver Island.
Please convey my appreciation and respect to Mr. Summers as well as Pat & Pearl. It kinda gives me a lump in my throat to watch them work together.
My father, born in 1914, raised on the homestead in Saskatchewan, would have tears in his eyes.
And thank you Zach for posting this.
Many thanks! And I am glad you enjoyed it…thanks for watching and also for commenting. Glad to hear from you!!!
Thank you for sharing.I would plant extra carrots for Pat and Pearl.❤❤❤❤

Nice big Belgian mules. Love the way Mr. Summers handles them, and takes care of them. Thanks for posting.
You’re most welcome and thanks for watching! Mr Summers is a top hand for sure. Take care
I am 72 years old now and my daddy used to tell us stories how he grew up on a share crop farm in Marlboro county in South Carolina. Back then he was just a little boy having to drop out of school in 3rd grade to work on the farm. He would tell us how special the mules were and their care came first over any of the family. He would tell us at noon they would give the mules a break and they were fed and watered before any of the family. I can totally understand that as the mule was their life. Today, most people are so spoiled if it does have a push button they don't work. This old guy here is doing this because he enjoys it. Still a lot of work.
Cool 😎 thanks for sharing your story with me. Yes, the mules did and still do come first. I make a living with mine. And they get fed and seen too before I do. Anyway, thanks for taking time to watch and do come again, please
that can bring an old, weathered heart to tears
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment! I appreciate it… Take care and do come again
That was great to see! Such well trained mules, and spoken to so quietly! Very impressive!!
Thank you very much and glad ya enjoyed it. Thanks for watching
Mr. Summers is a master at what he is doing ! Congratulations , very well done ! My father used a team of horses back in the 30's & 40s , I only have 3-4 pictures of him , very hard work in those days , proud of what my father accomplished ! Stay safe & have fun !
That is how I describe him myself…a “master.” I am sure your dad was too. When they used them every single day it made a big difference in their stock. Thanks for watching and commenting my friend. Take care
Thanks for sharing! This is a gentle man & some awesome mules!!
You’re most welcome and thanks for watching! Take care
Incredibly wonderful bonding and kindness shown by Mr Summers mules Pat and Pearl towards him and him toward them. God Bless them all.

Master ploughman and team! From South Africa.
Glad to hear from you and thank you! Thanks for watching and commenting
I understand farming in South Africa is a very dangerous occupation these days?
@@joe-ut9kbNot in the DA ruled Western Cape Province.
Excellent presentation with great camera work!!
My Grandfather, born in 1896, said that He so enjoyed working with draft horses, logging in The Pacific NW as well as hay and wheat farming with horses. He said that that one good thing about the tractor coming into use was that it did not feel pain when an abusive person used it, unlike horses, mules, etc. He had such a loving heart and it really troubled Him when folks were unkind to animals.
That’s pretty neat! I always love hearing the old timers stories. Unfortunately they’re getting fewer these days, but I do value them! Greatly!! Thanks for sharing your grandpa with me and for watching. As well as taking time to comment. I surely appreciate it. Take care.
So awesome to see this!!!
My dad used to do this but by the time I came around he had switched to a tractor.
He would still get me on the Massey Harris Pacer to pull the old horse drawn plow and holler orders at me over the sound of the engine!!!
LOL
Great memories
That’s too funny! But cool 😎. Thanks for watching and commenting. Take care
This was great! Thanks for not ruining it with music. Truly a delightful look at a man and his mules.

I love the relationship Mr Summer has with his mules. I remember my grandfather talking about a mule team he had in the late 1800's. He said they were his friends.
It definitely changes the way you feel about them when they make a living for you. Day in and out. My pa always had a deep deep affection for his mules. He always told me, “if it hadn’t been for our mules, we’d have surely died during the depression.” Thanks for watching and commenting. Take care

My dad born 1919 use to teach mules to plow and local friends and farmers would pay him to break the mule in, I helped him do two. He had all the tools, plows made one instrument with wood and a piece of rope. I recall right=haw, left=geehaw, whoa and giddup. Crazy times and dad you was the best.
Please give the Mr. Summers a great big hug from me. Awh, what a sweet man.

These are draft mules so they are much larger than a standard riding or pack mule.

@@zachodom7486 I was impressed how "square" he kept his plowing , seeing how he started outside and worked to the inside. His last strip was parallel , not pie shaped at all. I didn't see a GPS mounted on either mule , LOL.
Haha! Yes you’re right. Pa always told me, “You can tell a lot about a feller by his plow job.” Took me years to truly know what he meant. I’m always watching while I am plowing especially to the middle trying to true it up. To keep that from happening at the end lol. And honestly I can do better work with a walking plow than a riding plow. But I enjoy plowing with either. And yes, Mr Summers mules walk a tight line for sure. They’ve done it many many times. Thanks again brother
