@@marlonheyliger4969 Hey there, I'll show how I would solve that one here so you can double check your work: 8x - 4y = 12 minus 8x on both sides: -4y = -8x + 12 divide both sides by -4 (to get y by itself): y = 2x - 3 So the slope for this line so far is positive 2 or 2/1. We'll flip it and reverse it to find the perpendicular slope, which is -1/2 Does that help for that one?
Hi.. I did see my error just now. I am now getting the correct answer. Sir I truly want to to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am 53 and I am going to do the GED exam 2 days from now
OMG!! I've been trying to pass this last subject (Math) off and on for the past 14 years, and I have the confidence that I'm about to get the last 3 points and some. This will be my congratulations score! You are a GOD send! He works through people. I'm 55 and will finally have my GED for my Christmas present. I'm in tears, thank you so much!
This was the best explanation on slope and the way you were not at all faced paced and very patient explaining is very much appreciated you have no idea. I'm literally on my math GED my last one and I've seriously been struggling to pass it very heart braking each and everytime but this helped so much with figuring out slopes! I want to cry cause you explained it perfectly to me🙏❤.
Oh my gosh, you make it so simple! I am rewriting my math exam next week Tuesday. And just by watching a few of your videos i am kicking myself for not realizing how easy it actually is! Also realized that the calculator can basically do everything for you! Thank you thank you thank you! (Will update when i pass)
I passed the last of the mohicans today and that was the math part , your videos helped me along the way , anyone doubting themselves don’t stay consistent and everything you want will come
Can you do another vid on slopes via equations? I think I'm having a difficult time remembering where you should move things over, what should be flipped, and why, and I need more practice. People keep saying that slopes appear a lot on the test (some people said they got 10), and they're my weakness, so I'm dreading them.
Thank you my friend i have slope down packed now for GED! ( i do think adding the y2 - y1 , x2 - x1 formula would help others when given the points) your the man^
Oh also, I'm not sure if you saw these two videos, but these you can do completely with the calculator: Equations of Lines: ua-cam.com/video/gZwKwA0Bl5c/v-deo.html Quadratics: ua-cam.com/video/LKSrol0IorY/v-deo.html
@@GetSumMatheah watched these both a couple times! these two im comfy with because you can use the calculator. So are those also 2 main topics on the test?
Hey there, some common topics to pass are: • Determine Functions • Line Plots • Compare Rates • Mean, Median, Mode • Plotting Points • Functions • Substitutions • Solve Equations • Slope • Quadratics • Equations of Lines • Geometry (Area, Perimeter, Volume, Surface Area) I know that's a lot, but you could also check out: • Calculator Problems • 10 Common Problems as a fast way to prep!
Hey there, that's the reverse the sign part. So you'll flip it, and reverse the sign: if it's positive, it'll change to a negative. Hope that helps clarify that a little bit!
I only have math to go and I am terrified to schedule. The strange think is, I went to college and university in my county and pass calculus, statistics and pre calculus but these high school maths got me terrified
When we find the slope of a line that passes through 2 points, why is rise over run reversed? I though the first number is RISE and the second number is RUN.
It’s a great question. Rise over run with points is: y2 - y1 / x2 - x1 So rise is how the y’s change, and the run is how the x’s change. But it’s still rise over run, it’s just that rise is how y’s change and run is how x’s change. Since slope is steepness of a line, how high up or down it goes takes priority over how much it runs. I hope that helps explain a little bit more 🤞🏼
There are 2 options. They do give you a whiteboard, so you could sketch a grid and plot the points on the whiteboard, then find the rise over run. Or, you could use the slope formula: y2 - y1 / x2 - x1 So if you're finding the slope between (3, 5) and (9, 8), you want to subtract y's and x's: 8 - 5 / 9 - 3 3 / 6 1/2 So the slope is 1/2 in that case. Let me know if that helps 🙏🏻

When four points are given to find the slope, could we use the slope formula? Y-y divided by x-x?
For sure! And you can use any 2 points out of the 4, the formula will give you the same answer no matter which 2 points you use 👍🏼
Yes 🙌🏾
When u got the 1 over 3 how did you get the minus sign when you said flip it 🤷🏽

Can the perpendicular question be done on calculator in table? Or will we need to use white board?
That one will have to be a whiteboard one unfortunately 🙈
When we find the slope of a line that passes through 2 points, why is rise over run reversed? I though the first number is RISE and the second number is RUN.
It’s a great question.
Rise over run with points is:
y2 - y1 / x2 - x1
So rise is how the y’s change, and the run is how the x’s change. But it’s still rise over run, it’s just that rise is how y’s change and run is how x’s change. Since slope is steepness of a line, how high up or down it goes takes priority over how much it runs. I hope that helps explain a little bit more 🤞🏼
I can do this
Do you only move the slope ?
You'll use the rise/run just for the slope. Let me know if that helps or not!
@@GetSumMath thanks with the help of your video I passed with a 147!!!
@@xdestv2360 Congrats mate!! 🙌🏼😜
💯💯
im wondering how to do the problems where they give you 2 different points because you aren't provided a graph 🤕
There are 2 options. They do give you a whiteboard, so you could sketch a grid and plot the points on the whiteboard, then find the rise over run.
Or, you could use the slope formula:
y2 - y1 / x2 - x1
So if you're finding the slope between (3, 5) and (9, 8), you want to subtract y's and x's:
8 - 5 / 9 - 3
3 / 6
1/2
So the slope is 1/2 in that case. Let me know if that helps 🙏🏻
