Every time a Bruce Wayne tells an Alfred he's not his father it physically hurts me.
Soo... as s/o who doesn't know the first thing about Batman: Did I read the subtext of the clip correctly then, that Alfred reallly IS his father?
@@dayegilharno4988 Father figure, his parents died when Bruce was young and Alfred basically raised him
@@smeagollumartin Makes sense - His response would be as heartbreaking, then...
Not his father, but is his dad.
Yup. Anyone with step- or adoptive family knows.
Colbert: “Are you a Marvel guy or are you a DC guy?”
Serkis: “I’m a Tolkien guy.”
"I don't think you meme what you think you meme". -Shawn Wallis
Tolkien guy?
Tolkien owned son say he hated the lord of the ring films!
In Black Panther, he was one of two Tolkien White Guys.
@@anneahlert2997 yeah you toke that that joke from Screen Junkies honest Trailer of Black Panther!
@@eddiejoewalt7746
Guilty as charged!
If there was a motion caption category for the Oscars Andy Serkis would have 8-9 awards 😂
Hes bound to get an honorary Oscar down the line for all of his mocap performances.
This man was in marvel, now DC and also directed a sony-marvel Venom movie
That's actually insane...
Yeah sweet n nice but he’s a lord of the rings legacy!!!
+LOTR +Star Wars
Lotr, DC, marvel, planet of the apes. This guy is a cheat code
He was also in Topsy-Turvy, which is absolutely bananas.
This man has DEFINED motion capture in film for over two decades, and people are finally starting to appreciate his live-action performances as well. So happy for him
'Marvel or DC' Stephen, he's a marvel of a person and a distinguished character all in one.
I saw what you did there
underrated comment
but not a detective comic...
I will never forget him hopping up on the chair reading trump's tweets in Smeagol's voice. Hilarious.
Cofefe… what’s it mean precious?!
right?! Also I remember thinking, he really has to be physically present just to do the voice. Must have amazing muscle memory on that guy. He's so impressive and still looks like a random every-guy you'd see at a Pink Floyd concert.
Damn, I haven't seen that. What year?
🙃
@@nanettesnowden6513 Oh my God, It's classic. I will leave that between you and a Google.
You should check out his Theresa May Smeagol Brexit video
For any LOTR fans, Best narration I've ever listened to. Read the books many, many times, but listening to his version is strangely soothing.
Edited bc I commented before Colbert mentioned them.
He has a wonderful voice, I've listened to those as well. Tried to listen to them to fall asleep, but his voice is hypnotic and you can't stop listening. He's as good a voice actor as he is a conventional actor or a motion capture actor, a true treasure. He inhabits any character he takes on, even in the reading of LOTR. We're quite lucky that we exist on earth at the same time as him.
How does one listen to his audiobook?
@@porfiriato84 Audible, make sure you see his name as the narrator. There are older versions by other narrators.
During lockdown he did a reading of part of the books live on UA-cam on his channel for those wanting a taste or can’t afford to buy the audible books. I spent the night outside on my porch welcoming the sunrise to him reading The Hobbit
YEP big vouch. Loved listening to serkis narate them
It’s great to see him on the big screen again Andy is doing an amazing job
@gelas lawas Stop spamming
I love Stephen's enthusiasm for LOTR, which I share 100%, so when he has guests who starred in the films I can't wait for itttt
He was perfect as Alfred. This man is so diverse when it comes to his roles. He's incredible.
Right one of my favorite actor/entertainers atm
Andy Serkis can literally write actor's guide to mocap.
Thank you Andy for stating and justifying my long-time belief that the stories of Marvel and DC are the closest we get to modern mythological epics in todays times
True genius is being able to master a new technology like mo-cap the way Andy did and then in a pinch also be able to fall back on an old school film technique like shooting through a bowl of water.
My 11& 7 year old daughters are obsessed with that rap…truly obsessed. Only AFTER that rap did we all sit down and watch the movies for the first time. Now they’re obsessed with the movies. Don’t tell them about the books.
Yes tell them about the books! They can read them over and over, as I have. It is a quiet and calm past time which leads to expansion of vocabulary, interests and intellect. It is much better than scrolling social media.
Yes of course I will 😊 but if they start speaking elvish, I’m not gonna be happy 😄😄
@@canadianhappyinitalytruest6556 nah, u need to keep up and also learn elvish xD
@@heisenberg-c noooooo!!!! or should I say, "làààa" *yes, I had to google that :D
In my head, I always call him "The Great Andy Serkis"
Hehe, nice, Enthusiastic Zest
How about Sir Andy Serkis?
I call him “The Greatest Actor of All Time”
I saw The Batman last night and it was absolutely fucking amazing. Best DC movie ever. The Riddler is terrifying. Loved it
I don't understand why it has to be either/or. Can't we all just agree that both DC and Marvel have their positive and negatives. As well as their totally different approaches to superheroes. There's much to love in both.
Not to mention there's plenty of crossovers in the comics.
Exactly. The MCU is popular for a good reason, but DC movies tend to delve into darker stories, which makes for good individual flicks (though apparently not a good expanded universe). It’s like asking who’s better, Spiderman or Batman, when the two represent very different people, both as the superhero as well as the person underneath the mask
Marvel makes quality content at a more consistent rate. However, very few of their movies have you walk out of the theatre and have you think "Wow! That was a GOOD movie". Whereas when DC makes a high quality movie, you are walking out saying "Wow! That was a GOOD movie". Marvel is also much more lighthearted when it comes to things. DC tends to take those darker paths.
Impressive, most impressive. Stephen managed over 4 minutes with Andy Serkis _before_ mentioning LOTR!
Lol!
He mentioned in the first 10 seconds of intro
Considering his work on the Planet of The Apes films. Matt Reeves has probably done an excellent job.
I’ve seen it. Yes. It is amazing.
nah. reeves's apes are great films. this batman is a huge letdown.
@@ianw0ng disagree
This Batman is the world’s greatest detective. It has more in common with Chinatown or Taxi Driver. It’s not Nolan.
@@ianw0ng This DC character will be interpreted & reinterpreted like Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Look at how different Ledger’s Joker is from Phoenix’s.
He's a legend. Hope he pulls off Alfred well.
He's having such marvelous 2nd half of his career. So happy for him 💕
The day I believe in the Oscars will be the day Andy gets one!
Wait, he has NEVER received an Oscar TO THIS DATE?!?! SACRILEGE!!!
He _at least_ deserves a lifetime achievement award for all his work advancing and promoting the art of motion capture acting!
Art on a dime, and instantly creative!!! Great job Addy!
This man is seriously, severely, criminally underrated.
"Are you a Marvel guy, or are you a DC guy?"
"Both of those *and* Tolkien -- I'm a three-ring Serkis performer!"
His cook character on King Kong is still one of my favorite characters.
What's the EGOT equivalent of being in Star Wars, MCU, DC, and Lord of the Rings? SLMD. We can add Planet of the Apes in there and make it a SLAMD. The Grand SLAMD!
Seems like such an innocent, nice soul. Love him.
THAT SHIRT ANDY WORE WAS FIRE!
False choice. It’s okay to like both. I grew up on the DC animated shows in the early 2000s and didn’t really get into Marvel until Iron Man. I still like both companies to this day even if I prefer certain heroes and stories over others.
SUCH AN UNDERRATED ACTOR!!❤️
Honestly, I think that clip of The Batman has me more interested in the movie than the trailers. The actio is great and all that but it seems like The Batman is going to be a character piece and we haven't really seen any of that because trailers have to sell the spectacle. Can't wait to finally see it.
Meeting Andy Serkis is #1 on my bucket list. I’m not kidding!
Anyone saw “Little Dorrit”? Andy Serkis played a convincing bad guy in that too. 🥺
I believe I've said this before, but I'd love to be a fly on the wall for an Andy and Stephen dinner date. The conversation would be awesome.
Poor Andy was going in for a hug, though Stephen probably didn't expect the entry dance
Great interview & convo! Cheers
The Serkis is in town!
👏👏👏
Be glad he did a silly little jig, Stephen... he could have bitten your ring off.
Serkis was great in Little Dorritt too lol
The Last Time I Waz On The Show... It Waz Such An Honor To See/Realize How At First Hand It Iz All More Than Just Commodity. Visually Speaking I'm Beyond Power For Itz True Sence. That Which Iz Comedy Realistically Sumz Up More In Better Air. Love The Vibe And I Hope It Keepz Going. I Waz A New Sence. Round Work Over All.
If the upcoming DC slate is just as good as this Batman is then we’re in for a treat.
you just saw pretty much 90% of Andy's appearance time in The Batman... underutilized is an understatement.
Alfred Pennyworth was kicking ass in the comics!
Just saw The Batman and it was fantastic
"Alfred, stop. You're not my father."
"No. I'm your _precious."_ 🤏🙏
Can’t wait to see The Batman.
He’s playing Alfred?! I might have to watch the new Batman now. 😳
I really like this man.
I would like to say I love how he boogied onto the stage
He was fantastic as Captain Haddock
That is the most tamed role I've seen Andy Serkis play in; I'm too damn used to his Golem/Shmegol voice acting O_o
“YOURE NOT MY REAL DAD”
“Wow Bruce real original”
There’s a part in the batman Alfred is laying down in a “room” and there’s a long pause, I really wish he started talked in his LOTR character’s voice.. I hope they come out with a blooper reel when he does it..
Bro I'm so awkward....id fall dancing coming on that stage...
Loved Andy LOTR! He’s been amazing since then!!
He , Andy, has the greatest voice.
That entrance was tremendous 😂
Andy Serkis’ shirt is great looking. The pattern is in front matches perfectly. You never see that kind of attention to detail. You think he had tailor made for himself??
Lol just realized he is both in a DC film and has been in the Marvel universe as
Ulysses Klaue
And also directed Venom and Marvel-Sony movie
I'm hoping he gets to reprise his Marvel role. There's some good scenery chewing material for his character.
It's not until i've read the title of this video that i have realized he's on both comic universes
And i watched him in The Batman a few days ago 🤦🏻♀️
Oh the irony that Tolkien hated allegory
The fact that he hated allegory doesn't erase the fact that he wrote one. XD
One of Stephen's favourite actors.
Yaaaaaas! Definitely one of the greatest actors and directors!
Cannot look at him without seeing Gollum/Smeags and I love and hate it lol
The Lord of the Rings
Star Wars
Marvel
DC
This man is living a nerd's (my) dream
Andy Serkis would have been lauded at the same level as some of the greatest actors of his generation if it weren’t for still existing bias towards actors looking or acting a certain way (like Hollywood stars of old). He is down to earth and his talent and appeal do not depend on his looks or personal charisma.. the closest comparator is Willem Dafoe in my view, another under-appreciated actor.
In THIS country, a "little snatch" means something completely different, eh?😁🙄😎
Love Andy!
The Batman still has his vampire makeup!
A Treasure. 👍
The thumbnail for this video looks like Harry Styles in 30 years
Jigging for the win ‘n’ he got it!!! Lol
King of motion capture
Not a big fan of action Movies but I so want to see this Batman because of the cast. It is dark but I know it will be brilliant.
That was the relationship of bruce wayne and alfred in Nolan’s TDKR
Best Alfred!
Love that shirt! Such a Brit touch! :)
30 years..Johnny Carson would never had played Gangsta Rap..lol
Would have been hilarious if he answered,"Shueisha."
Though, considering his age, he passed it.
No, Bruce. I raised you, I tended to your wounds, I helped you become the man you are. You're the son I never had, and I'm the father you needed me to be.
- i wish someday in some universe, some Alfred will say it. because he has the right to.
Snoke is in da house, people!
It must be a drag for Andy Serkis to have to wait for another 30-40 years to be of an age where they finally award him that Special Honorary Oscar which he‘s already earned for his pioneering (and ubiquitous) Mocap work.
I wasn’t excited to see the new batman. I don’t need more dark moody super hero movies. But now that I know he’s in it… I might have to see it.
Omg im freaking out that hes alfred thats news to me now ill see the movie
Do you think there's a reason Stephen had Andy Serkis on his show instead of Robert Pattinson or Zoe Kravitz, my precious??!!
see when characters are recast, then it gives new actors (and directors and writers, costume etc.) to put a whole new interpretation on the role. and then it not only keeps the character alive in the public awareness, but people can have fun discussing the differences between different versions of the character.
#recasttchalla
What would have happened if Andy had said "They're both my precious" as Gollam?
Andy Serkis is basically the heir to the mantle of Christopher Lee.
❤️❤️
Can I just say I'm so glad he isn't typecast for mo-cap anymore.
We don't deserve Andy Serkis.
might be tough for actors…fans see it pretty clearly
Perhaps the best answer for him is he will always be a lord of the rings guy..hehe
THe man behind the motion capture mask.
WOOO HOOO!!!
You forgotten he's in star wars the last jedi
I got to round the number of likes to 5,000!!! Yei!!!
DC all the way!!🙌
