I felt icky just listening to you talk about the "assignment" that the company wanted you to do. I think your instagram and youtube channel stands for itself as a portfolio. Don't ever give them free labour, you (and everyone on this planet) is worth more than free labour.
I work full-time as a social media manager. HARD pass on the assignment. I've seen so many people do them and they never hear back and the brand still uses their content. Your personal platforms should be more than enough!! The only time I ever took a test was for a writer role and I had to proofread an imaginary statement for grammar, punctuation, etc.
OOUUUF yeah that's exactly what I was thinking. I feel like a proofreading test makes more sense - kind of like a skills test VS a full creative assignment.
I think it’s all relevant when you are doing an assignment from what you said and how you feel I completely agree it was to much and to be 20 mins late is just rude You got this though keep going!!!
If you get a weird feeling about an interview then there is your answer :) Plus if they want to see what you are capable of you have tons of your own insta reels for them to see...
i do agree with you that it isnt fair to ask someone to do what should be paid for content for free for an interview. portfolios or quiz questions im fine with, but a full blown assignment ESPECIALLY for a job that isnt particularly well paid…, that would be out of the question for me
I wouldn't do the assigment as well 😅 Plus you have been job hunting for less than a month, there's still time for you to get better interviews 💛 ai'm sure something better will come up soon!
I went on vacation so just catching up with your videos now, but wanted to comment on your question about assignments 😊 I am a freelancer, and mainly I translate books. Oftentimes, when you connect with a new publisher you didn't work with yet, they would ask to do a test. If they want you for a certain book, they will ask for a bit of that book translated. BUT no more than about a Word page of text. It shouldn't take too much time and it's for you and them to see if you vibe with the text and if they like your translation style. It's a pretty normal practice in this field (at least in Russia)
I agree that giving "assignments" for job interviews is terrible. I remember my dad applying for a job in Government in my country, and each step of the interview process was an assignment. The job he was applying for was Lead Carpenter, so the assignments were building things. And he didn't have a car, so he would need to get a ride to come in and do these assignments. After the second one, he just gave up on it. He has over 35 years of experience in the construction industry.
Good call about the assignment, you felt uncomfy about it for a reason. It's very easy for me to say this in retrospect (I just started a new job) but during my job search, I definitely regret wasting my time on written assignments. I had to do one pre-interview task, which I felt weird about but still did. Took way too much time and they didn't even mention it at the interview. And I made it to the second round of another interview where I did a research/written assignment and again, spent way too much time on it. This is getting long, just saying I wouldn't recommend doing an assignment unless you really (really!) want the job. Good luck! I'm sure you'll find something where they value you and your time.
After so long, I am seeing your mid week vlog. It has been little bit hectic but now it's getting better. Hope I will be able to watch more mid week and Sunday vlogs ❤
I’m loving the team names 😂 The Squadre is cute and wholesome! Fire breathing bitch queens is one of my favourites from the book Collar me daddy 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I feel like I’ve heard so many people say A Novel Love Story was 3 stars, I felt the same way too😂 I actually felt like it was 2.5 by the end though. I’ve been going back and watching all of your older videos that I haven’t seen yet! ❤
Most interviews I've done have required a project or proposal. They're asking for a project because they want to know if you understand their brand and are able to use your skills to represent them. I make sure to add "prepared for BUSINESS NAME by NAME" on the completed visuals.
Really? I’ve only encountered this 2 times in my life. On one hand, I get it… but on the other, I feel like a portfolio should be enough. I guess if it was my dream job I’d be more open to the idea
Loved the vlog!🫶🏻 I recently saw that the darker shades trilogy from VE. Schwab is on kindle unlimited here in Germany. Do these books fit into the autumn reading vibes or should I read it in a different season?
Not sure if it's just for graphic designer positions, there is usually an assignment during the final round of interview process, so i'm actually happy to get it lol. Cause it means I made it to the final round. I see it as them checking if we were attentive to detail, made sure we follow instructions, see our style, etc. I'm not against it but I can also see what you mean by "free work".
@@jbellemp I’ve only encountered this twice in my life! That’s actually interesting that it happens a lot for graphic design jobs, I would think a portfolio would be enough!
@@jaimefok yeah, the portfolio is a way to grab their attention so you get the interview. The assignment is to prove that you know what you're really doing. But that's in my field! Maybe content creation and other artist jobs are similar? Been working as a designer since 2013 :)
I am a teacher and therefore I get it's a very different world but I have sat in on demo lessons and I have seen other teachers take things from those lessons and we didn't hire the person. Which teaching is so weird because nothing is original but that always rubbed me the wrong way. I also always felt weird sitting in demo lessons and then telling people we didn't hire them. That's a lot of work lol. I think after they showed up late and they gave you this that you made the right decision. You can tell when that vibe isn't right.
Oh strange! I did do a demo class for a dance teacher role before - but I feel like maybe that made a bit more sense…. Definitely not for an experienced teacher but for one straight out of school or something?
Loving these cozy, chill vlogs lately- thank you for sharing with us!🤍 hoping and praying you'll get the right job for you, love🙏🏻🤍 Just remember, all these doors closing are just because they aren't your door- it's reserved just for you😉🤍
If you were 20 minutes late for that interview, the company would have probably told you forget it. You were just expected to ignore the fact that they were 20 minutes late. A company shouldn't expect a prospective employee to make a big effort without compensation as a test of your abilities.
I was interviewing for jobs in 2021 and when I had Zoom interviews the interviewers were always late or completely forgot about me. One interviewer never showed up and then called me hours later and tried to do the interview over the phone instead. It was awful. I think you made a good call on passing up that job! That's definitely a sign of poor management.
Some Nutella filled pretzels… oooh or pistachio butter pretzels 🤤 Also have you ever tried sunbutter filled pretzels? They are fantastic. Hope the job search gets better and you get some good responses. The interview project thing, I have mixed feelings on. If you don’t have a portfolio to showcase then it doesn’t hurt to make sure you actually have the experience you say you do… but if there is already a portfolio then why do you need to waste time on that?
I think that’s weird to do an assignment for a job interview. Especially when it’s for something that’s for creative aspect outside of your pro-folio. Don’t worry you will find the next opportunity that is perfect for you

Agreed!
Absolutely correct stance re "assignment" for interview. Job search is soul-destroying BS - you'll get something good soon, I'm sure.
