As a person who has been off work for a little while now, I first went the "I must not spend any extra money" route. But I got so sad and isolated doing that. I realized that I needed to keep doing things that I loved because it made me feel like me. Staying at home and only focusing on job searching made my life so limited. Going out with friends, going to the gym, buying new clothes that I love, having date night with hubby, all these things bring joy to me and help me to feel motivated and active. We make things work in terms of finance (I'm lucky enough for my partner to be bringing in good money), and he wants me to live my life because he sees how isolated I can become. I'll eventually get a job, but till then, I'm still going to live a good life! Good luck with your search!

I would definitely keep your commitments and just try to be frugal when out and about. Like you did, not buying drinks and extras right now. Good idea to have a daily schedule, it’s so easy to just check your phone and end up being on it for hours. Hope you get the job!
Wishing you the best of luck on whatever happens with your future. These things stink because you don’t know what’s going to happen. Glad you are being proactive and not waiting around to see what happens with your job that is in pause at the moment.
I'm a fellow Canadian from BC. Here you need to apply for EI as soon as you get laid off but there is a waiting period and it doesn't start until your severance runs out. I don't know how it works for temporary layoffs or if Ontario is similar to here but apply for EI if you can. You will get through this. I think you are taking a good approach with your spending. And now it's so different after covid that people can work from home so you could always do something part time until a good job fit comes along.
So proud of your journey Ms. Jaime! Whatever curveballs life throws at you, remember that there’s always something brighter on the other side. I know how you feel when it comes to trying to keep structure in your day. When I had to stop working due to disability, I was left feeling like I was just floating along with no real purpose. Now I have a set routine in the mornings to start my day off positively, a set routine when it comes to getting my son ready for school and my husband ready for work, and a cleaning schedule for each day where I pick a room to deep clean and then just do general tidying in the rest of the house, and finally a set night time routine. It really helps me feel like I’m still contributing, and I don’t feel guilty for using my free time to relax and engage in my hobbies.

It’s definitely difficult as someone who has always been focused on saving money… to now having my savings getting drained month to month with living expenses 😭 that’s really what I’m struggling with the most, and not knowing when I’ll be able to not lose money month to month again if that makes sense! Glad you are feeling much better now after the shocking news! it’s a blessing for us subscribers 🤐 to see more of you! But I hope you’ll find something that you love to do and get paid too 😂
That laid off thing sounds like something we had in the Netherlands years ago.. You could get temporary contracts for at most 3 years and then they had to give you a permanent contract or let you go and they could hire you again after 3 months if they wanted to. Because many companies abused that system it was changed years ago. I hope you get hired again so this is kind of like a long holiday in a sense.
Hello Jamie! Actually, I haven't been able to keep up with your or any other creator's content in the recent month due to some personal commitments. Came back after 7 months. Have you stopped making workout videos? By the way, love your videos always
@@jaimefokI personally feel like it’s the universe telling you what you’re doing on UA-cam is your path + I feel like these next 13 weeks are going to be so huge for you 🫶🏽
Is it legal to temporary lay off in your country? Like you don't get paid for 3 months? If after that time they don't hire you again do you get paid for being fired or something?
It’s legal unfortunately, no paychecks for 3 months. At the end of the 3 months, if they don’t hire again, you don’t get any back pay for the 3 months either.
I hope you reported your porch pirate to the cops. While he was covered in your video, they may be able to trace his path to his car or where he goes. I had to use a mail center to get my mail when my local PO refused to deliver my mail. They’d send mine back but deliver for people from years ago. Even after I went in, left notes in my box, did change of address cards. So now I drove half an hour once a week to get my mail, but my packages are safe (porch pirates are bad here too)
What are/were you working as? Can‘t you just search for a new job and keep it? Also are you going to get money from the government or..? Sorry if that sounds dumb but we don‘t have something like that in Switzerland! 😅
We have a sort of unemployment support but it’s really minimal…. Also pretty bad haha I applied for it 3 weeks ago and haven’t seen or heard anything back
of course! I also do have savings, so I know I'll be fine. but I'm the type of person who thrives on saving for my future & next stages in life - so the pause in that is stressing me out.
@@jaimefok You seem like an anxious type. If you have savings+ support you'll be fine. Think of all the ppl who had no support, had families to feed and were laid off during the pandemic.
@@LaRochePosay04 100% I am the anxious type haha but it's also what has driven me to succeed the past years - I understand my situation is not as bad as what some others have had to face, but it doesn't make my feelings any less valid.

I’ve been laid off twice and totally understand the struggle of sense of self worth and structuring. Hang in there! I’m in a better place now and so will you!
Oh I’m so sorry you’ve been through that! Thank you so much ❤️
Glad you are feeling much better now after the shocking news! it’s a blessing for us subscribers 🤐 to see more of you! But I hope you’ll find something that you love to do and get paid too 😂
Thank you love ❤️
That laid off thing sounds like something we had in the Netherlands years ago.. You could get temporary contracts for at most 3 years and then they had to give you a permanent contract or let you go and they could hire you again after 3 months if they wanted to. Because many companies abused that system it was changed years ago. I hope you get hired again so this is kind of like a long holiday in a sense.
Terrible! The bad thing too is I was actually a permanent full time employee. So I was expecting some consistency with that type of contract 😂😭
Hope that your interview went well! Also did you say something about a book club? 👀
Thank you! Yes - I’m part of a local toronto book club :) DM me on Instagram if you’re in the Toronto area and want to join!
@@jaimefok aw I got my hopes up that you were going to make one 😭 haha
Oh no, we are so sorry that happen to you. Comment and not skip ad to help out. Your feelings are vailded. Take care!
You’re the best, thank you! ❤️❤️❤️
❤
Are you an angel 💞
Hello Jamie! Actually, I haven't been able to keep up with your or any other creator's content in the recent month due to some personal commitments. Came back after 7 months. Have you stopped making workout videos? By the way, love your videos always
@@MAHEENMEHJABEENRAHIM hi love! yes - I have shifted my focus ❤️
I’m sorry to hear what happened to you. But it could just be the universe pushing you towards something else ❤
thank you🫶🏻🫶🏻
@@jaimefokI personally feel like it’s the universe telling you what you’re doing on UA-cam is your path + I feel like these next 13 weeks are going to be so huge for you 🫶🏽
@@dominicalucia aww thank you!!
Ar you still gonna do rollerblade
I actually haven’t had the time this summer!
That's adulthood... I hope you find a great job! ❤
Thank you! ❤️
@@jaimefok omg that's horrible!!! I'm so sorry, I never heard of that before :( Sending you the best energies, I'm sure everything is gonna be ok 🩷
So now I drove half an hour once a week to get my mail, but my packages are safe (porch pirates are bad here too)
I did file a police report! For now, they can’t do anything about it, but at least there’s a record now with some of the photos/videos captured
Are you able to file for unemployment? In America we can
Yes - but three weeks later and I haven’t heard anything back 😭
💜
What are/were you working as? Can‘t you just search for a new job and keep it? Also are you going to get money from the government or..? Sorry if that sounds dumb but we don‘t have something like that in Switzerland! 😅
We have a sort of unemployment support but it’s really minimal…. Also pretty bad haha I applied for it 3 weeks ago and haven’t seen or heard anything back
@@jaimefok I hope that everything will turn out for you as it should 🙏🏼❤️
Speaking of money, how about your husband, can't he financially support u in the meantime?
