    5:36; Not mentioned by JG9, but I felt was worth mentioning--in 1995, the Quebec Nordiques of the National Hockey League relocated to Denver and became the Colorado Avalanche. In their first year in their new city, they won the Stanley Cup, followed by another Stanley Cup victory five years later.

    It's a shame Bob Sanders never stayed healthy. A lot of the reason was how he played. When he was on the field, he was a wrecking ball. Amazing how one player can transform the worse run defense in history into what we saw in that playoff run.

    This is virtually the perfect Video! I loved part 1, the 3 seed or lower has hosted the conference championship game only 3 times . 2006 Colts, 2008 Cardinals, and 2021 LA Rams

    The 2008 Cardinals were another example of Home WC win, Road Divisional win, Hosting Conference Title game. But as a four-seed, not a three.

      @J69user 8 місяців тому +3

      Same way for the Rams in 2021 in LA for the Wild Card round. On the road for divisional round, at home for the conference Championship game. Back in the day the 3’rd seed would get a bye but have to play on the road but could still host the Conference Championship game. This happened only once when the Redskins beat the Bears and the Vikings beat the 49’ers. Redskins were the higher seed but still were on the road for the Divisional round. Now you can have a losing record and win your division which is crazy. I’d rather have it where if you have such a bad tank division and the best team is like 6-11 for example then it should be by wins and loses on who hosts like the in the 80’s.

    This is very similar to what happened prior to the opening game of the 1994 World Cup between Bolivia & Germany at Soldier Field in Chicago. In the original plans for the 1994 World Cup, it was going to be RFK Stadium in DC that would host the opening game. However once FIFA saw how much of a nightmare putting the opening game there would be, they decided to move it to Chicago & announced it a year before the tournament began. At the time, no one in Chicago expected to be hosting the opening game of the World Cup mainly because FIFA told them that they would be hosting 3 group stage matches towards the end of group play, a round of 16 match & a quarterfinal. Because of this switch the ticket office at Soldier Field became overwhelmed for a period of about 6 months between July-November 1993 by supporters of both Bolivia & Germany (the two countries playing in the opening game) calling on an almost daily basis about getting tickets. The ticket office became so overwhelmed by these calls along with people calling about Bears tickets that they asked FIFA to assist them. FIFA determined that the best way to solve this issue was to give an allocation of tickets to each country's FA & fans would have to go through their country's FA if they wanted tickets to the opening game. They also told the Soldier Field ticket office to only sell World Cup tickets for the other matches to locals or to people that were physically present to purchase them which meant that fans of the countries that were playing already needed to be in Chicago if they wanted to see their country play. As for how the opening game of the 1994 World Cup turned out, Germany beat Bolivia 1-0 thanks to a Jurgen Klinsmann goal though it was largely overshadowed by the drama surrounding OJ Simpson & the infamous car chase that would follow (which itself created a massive broadcasting controversy with Game 5 of the NBA Finals later that night).

    My dad bought me tickets to the Chiefs game for Christmas that year (I was 10). The season ticket holder who sold us the tickets shipped the entire package, which back then included a ticket for both the wild card game, and the AFC Championship, should the Colts happen to host. When the Colts clinched hosting the AFCCG, the original season ticket holder FRANTICALLY started trying to get in touch with my dad to get his tickets back. My dad, being the nice guy he is, shipped them back. I hope I'm half the man he is to do something like that in the future because it would be hard to not just keep those for myself.

    I remember Ticketmaster using the lottery system to sell concert/event tickets back in the late 90’s. Their reasoning was that when people waited outside the ticket booth overnight for a FCFS policy, some of the people became disorderly, would throw trash all around the lot, & even go to the bathroom right outside the building. They also used the lottery system if the ticket office was inside of a retail store, as the retailers didn’t want tons of people hanging around outside their store detouring their customers. I hated having to buy tickets using the lottery system.

    interesting, to me anyway, side note about some of the stats in the early part of this video, specifically the stuff about a 3 seed never hosting a championship game in the 6 team playoff format prior to this.
    there were 2 versions of the 6 team format, prior to 2003 it was 3 division winners and 3 wildcards. for reasons that are not entirely clear but that i love to ponder, the switch to 4 divisions and 2 wild cards opened the flood gates on high seeds being knocked off before the conference championship.
    my best guess is that the accompanying change to way schedules are made created more opportunity for only mildly good teams to win a few extra games and grab higher seeds than they would have under the old schedule.

    Ironcally that 06 colts teams that got blown about by that 06 Jaguars team- the jaguars had just advanced to 8-5 and then proceeded to collapse the last three games including a game lost to the titans (sound familiar). The jaguars lost despite 400 yards of offseason against a titans team that had loess than 100 yards of offense. The titans had 3 defensive touchdowns and no offensive touchdowns. If the jaguars make the playoffs, i firmly believe they steam roll the colts again, but December has never been kind to Duval. The last game was a in and win against the chiefs and the jaguars lost, that same team the colts played the next week.
