      @andyp4437 Those who do not remember the past are doomed to repeat it. And those who do not atone for their sins can not be forgiven. It can even be argued that by willfully "forgetting" their bullying past, they are, in fact, continuing to bully their victims. And even if they truthfully could not remember, a decent person would apologize for any hurt or pain they caused another when reminded of it, if only to help alleviate another's suffering and help their healing journey.

      A similar thing happened to my recent ex (my HS sweetheart. We're still good friends/roommates despite everything.) She unfortunately didn't have the self-worth back then to turn down the misogynist/emotional abuser he (of course) turned out to be. Even after breaking it off, even after we were dating long-term, even after /moving states/ and going almost completely no contact for ~5 years he still acted like they were together despite her constant protest. yo that last story hit really hard, because I feel like a lot of women including myself eventually have that crazy mindfucky moment in high school or college when they realize that guys they thought saw them the same way they see themselves actually view them in a completely unhinged, misogynistic way and it really changes your entire worldview

      I’ve met a lot of absolutely unhinged teens, I imagine a lot of us have, and a lot of them would have easily been able to do this if alpha bro content was prevalent back then. Licensed Nurse here, Shayne is correct on the protocol for seizures. Don’t put anything in their mouth, like a spoon or especially a finger unless you plan to loose it. A seizure is essential neuron overload and that overload could cause their jaw to clamp shut beyond normal strength possibly biting your finger off or breaking their teeth on a spoon.😅 After getting them to the ground safely, the two big things is protecting the head from injury, laying it on your lap is fine, and airway protection including removing tight jewelry or clothing around the neck and turning them in the recover position if they start to vomit so they don’t choke. Stay with the victim and don’t hold them down, let the seizure happen. Many times seizures resolve themselves. Do be ready to orient the victim after they come too because confusion post seizure is common.

    • @Letgo13inG
      @Letgo13inG Рік тому +36

      @@C0ttonEyes That is correct! The big thing people don’t realize is that a body that is fully seizing holds nothing back and doesn’t follow the normal movements of the human body because all your fine and gross motor skills go out the window. All movement is random in direction, speed, and power. If your hand is stuck or held down and you yank with only your torso at full force and your actual arm and shoulder is relaxed, it wouldn’t be that hard to dislocate your shoulder. I think many people don’t realize how violent seizures can be. I guess they want to think of it like Parkinson’s which is very different. I’m sorry to hear about your sister, I hope she’s ok!

      The scary part is that so many of these people just can't be convinced that what they believe is bad. No matter how many rational arguments you throw at them, their brain just can't comprehend actual logic and form their own opinions. They need a big muscular cigar smoking dude to tell them what to think. They can't actually use critical thinking to reason about their opinions and question if they actually make sense or not. They're like conspiracy theorists. Trying to convince a flat earther that the earth is round is almost impossible. It's one of the fears I have of making friends with people online (or even real life). You never know how insane someone is until after quite a while.

    Hey, just a nursing student but as far as the seizure thing goes, DO NOT support any part of the body or hold anything down, first thing you should do is slowly get them on the ground, turn them on their side so you help them maintain their airway and they don't inhale any spit, then clear the area of anything hard that they could hurt themselves on, then put something relatively soft and flat to elevate the head off the ground, something like a pillow is ideal but in a situation where that's not possible use something like a hoodie or a jacket that's folded up, finally if they have glasses on take them off, that is all you should do if you don't have further training. General info: if somebody is having a seizure DO NOT restrict movement or put anything in their mouth. Put a pillow/shirt/anything soft under their head to mitigate head trauma from convulsions. If you can, try to put them on their side to prevent aspirating on vomit.
    If you’re there at the start, try to time the length of the seizure and tell EMS when they arrive.
    Remember, many times seizures look scarier than they actually are. Just do what you can and make sure emergency services are called and on their way

    • @alisaishere
      @alisaishere Рік тому +78

      Epileptic here. No need to put anything under the head, just move tings away from the body. If you try to move their head to put something under it, it could do damage.
      Also, if the person has epilepsy, just monitor for safety, time the seizure (if it lasts longer than 5 minutes call Emergency Services), after the seizure, roll them onto the recovery position (look it up, it's a fancy way of placing them on the side), if the person has difficulty coming out of the seizure also call emergency services. As they wake up, you can ask them simple questions to help the brain make connections again.
      But with people you know have epilepsy, please don't call 911 for me. I'll recover fine on my own and don't want to pay for the ambulance ride and spend time going to the hospital and back just for them to say oh, you have epilepsy, so you had a seizure. I don't need an ER trip for something I know I have, unless it's one of the two things I listed above, prolonged seizure or struggling to come out of it.

I know this isn't really near the extremity of the reddit story, but a long time ago I often fell victim to a lot of scenarios where I would be having a nice long conversation over text with a friend, only to find out a different person that I didn't know had been using THEIR phone. It always left me with a strange feeling in my stomach like I almost never knew if who I was messaging was who I thought they were. Make sure they are safe and not going to hurt themselves. You can hold them but don't restrain them..if that makes sense. I'm sooo happy they told poor Noah 😂

I think is what you said, has is actually called an AURA. Many ppl have them right before a seizure happens.. kinda like a warning system lol. My son screams😭. So that's extra fun.. Some people can actually tell before hand and get to safety like sitting down or out of the shower ect. Which honestly is AMAZING! My son also has absent seizures where it looks like he's just day dreaming or staring off into space but he's actually actively seizing. It's just not a whole body seizure. Also with drop seizures, It makes your body go limp.. So for instance, my sons last seizure he was sitting down and because of that his head flopped forward and cut his airway off.. He's slammed his poor face into desks and tables and he's busted his nose,he's hit his face on the bathroom sink cuz he was brushing his teeth at the time.. I TRY to not think about what if I wasn't home or in the shower or anything when my baby stopped breathing.. It happens and sometimes they person doesn't make it.. It called SUDEP. Sudden Unexpected Death from Epilepsy. Thank you for educating yourself!! Ask questions! Always! The more you know, the better prepared you can be and the safer your cousin will be!!🥰🥰

    Fun Fact: my first job out of high school required me to undergo extensive first aid/CPR training, and I did it again for my college degree. One of the main things I learned about was helping those who are having seizures. You DO NOT hold their tongue or restrain them in any way (or open their eyes). Doing so could result in severe injury to you or the patient! Instead, you help them gently to the ground and carefully turn them on their side. Make sure they have plenty of space; don’t crowd around them, and make sure there’s no furniture that they can hit their head or limbs on. Check for any sort of medical bracelet/necklace/tattoo etc. Time the seizure; they should only last a few minutes, but this varies from person to person. If it lasts too long or if you don’t know if they have a history of seizures, call for help. Shayne is right about supporting the head to make sure they don’t hit it on the floor or anything else, but like I said, don’t restrain or crowd them. Last but definitely not least, do your best to stay calm.
    Edit: if they’re sitting up and not falling, don’t guide them to the ground. Keep an eye on them just in case, but the main dangers are of them hitting their head if they fall or swallowing their tongue/choking on vomit if they’re on their back. Sorry for the TMI, but it’s true.

    The Anika story makes me so angry. My mom had a bunch of friends with kids my age, and one of them hated me. He constantly pulled embarrassing pranks on me and at one point threw paving stones at me. I would be forced to be around him when Mom saw her friends and I always dreaded it. Him bullying me went on throughout elementary and middle school, and thankfully I didn't have to see him much after that. He did come to pick something up for his mom once after we had both graduated college though. He tried making small talk and asking how I had been. When he realized I refused to give him more than a one word answer he asked what my problem was. I reminded him that he bullied me for years and that I still didn't like him and he asked me why I "hadn't gotten over it yet". According to him, he was a kid and it didn't matter. BS. He wanted me to be "civil and polite" when the thought of apologizing never once crossed his mind. You do not have to get over/forgive your bullies if they refuse to even try to apologize! I'm so sorry her family doesn't understand or fully support her. If Anika really has changed, she'd be trying to make it right because she would genuinely feel bad. She isn't upset that she got "embarrassed", she's upset that her immature and awful behavior caught up to her and bit her in the butt.

      Yeah, he's a POS. I kinda come from the other direction... I had a "friend" in middle school who would bully another "friend" relentlessly, in the name of good fun. I never actively participated but was definitely an enabler, standing by the side and saying nothing, at worst sometimes laughing along.
      Ironically, I think the bullied kid might not remember me, but I will remember him for the rest of my life. I've really had to reckon with the fact that I've contributed, even in a small way, to this kid having social anxiety and trouble making friends. If I ever met him again, I would apologize for what I did (or didn't do) even if he didn't remember himself.
      I understand why some people would claim to have forgotten. Apologizing means recognizing and feeling shame for what an asshole you were, and that's hard to do. But expecting to have any kind of cordial relationship with your victim because "they should've gotten over it by now" is delusional. No dude, it's your job to apologize, so maybe you should get over it

    I really appreciate that y'all said that high school is the hardest it's ever been right now. I'm a freshman, and even when you leave school, you don't truly leave, because online everyone is still talking about each other and school related things. Hell, that happens in middle school too. And for the people who say that you should just stop going online, your social life will die. In our modern day, it is practically impossible to properly socialize with people without using social media, texting, whatever. I personally really only use texting, UA-cam, and sometimes Pinterest, and I just keep to myself and my friends. I don't really know about whatever "popular kid drama" there is, and I don't even really know who "the popular kids" are to be honest. And I'm still using social media (obviously, lol). People don't just show up at other's doors unannounced anymore. That's considered weird by most people, especially teenagers. Yes, you can have friends outside of social media and such, but you'll still be socially stunted. It's just simply not how our society works anymore. And most of our work is online now too (including our grades for our parents to see whenever!). The world has changed so much since you (the type of person that I mentioned before, not everyone) went to school, that your close minded opinion on the matter doesn't even really apply anymore.

    The last story is horrifying, not only because it’s a scary experience for op to have gone through, but because I’ve gone through (and seen multiple comments of others experiencing) the same thing. Men think they deserve a relationship with a woman, and are willing to lie to have even a fake one. The betrayal of thinking you have a friend, only to find out he thinks or told people that you are dating, is so heartbreaking and scary.

      Oh is that what men think? Interesting generalization. Thanks for the information on how men as a whole all think the same.

      @baconscoobysnacks3135 she’s obviously talking about the psychopaths that do stuff like this, stop getting fake offended as a way to defend men who do this. We both know she doesn’t mean all men do this because that’s something only crazy people would do

      @@RockyLXXXVIII you're here pretending you have special information that was never clarified 💀😂 buddy sit down, you're an idiot for even reply to me the way you did. Maybe they did mean it the exact way you're saying, problem is that's not what they said is it? Now they can always clarify what they said, but let's be honest "women are sexist". Hmm I wonder, did I mean all women or just women like her 🤔 oh I'll never clarify I'll just leave it open ended like normal people do.
