      Waited longer than they even mentioned if you really listened he waited an hour before he was hungry then waited ANOTHER hour and a half. Until he grabbed the first half. Now only waiting another 10-15 after that to wipe out the rest after you just ate a foot and a half may have been a bit much

    There's absolutely nothing complicated about the boyfriend's penis story. He went along with it, explained in private why it makes him uncomfortable, explained the history about it and asked her not to make the joke again. Respect other peoples boundaries. He is not blowing it out of proportion and if anything, the OP was not taking her boyfriend seriously.

      Yup. I honestly think the whole thing was a No Assholes Here situation (like she was mildly an AH for mocking his penis in front of all his friends to begin with, but not a huge deal) until the point where she decides to post on Reddit about it and tack on that "is he overreacting? shouldn't he just take a joke??" like damn, all he did was express to her in private that it made him feel insecure because he doesn't enjoy being teased about it (who tf enjoys having your entire group of friends laughing at how small your dick is?!?) and expressed that he doesn't want her to do that anymore. People are allowed to have boundaries about their partner making fun of them to other people. If it makes them uncomfortable/insecure then you should just respect that. It's not an "overreaction" to not want your gf to make you the butt of the joke to the entire friend group, over something that is a touchy subject for you. Some people are OK with that, but lots of people aren't. He expressed it in a very reasonable and healthy way, he wasn't mad at her, they talked it out, that should be the end of the story. Why tf did she have to turn around and be like "OK BUT IS HE ACTUALLY AN ASSHOLE THO"

      Never insult your partner (especially publicly) to others because it is as much a reflection of you as it is them. If it's minor everyday things not if they're seriously abusive like physically. I don't understand people complaining about their spouse or insulting their spouse online or in public because WHY are you complaining? YOU picked them... what does that say about you? It really confuses me when comedians do it. Telling funny stories about your partner is fine but when people actively complain and insult their partner their partener isn't the problem

      Honestly I think it’s pretty clear the gf was the AH. You don’t joke abt your partner’s physical attributes (esp. Something as personal as genitals) in front of others if you are not 1000% sure they’re ok with it. Yeah you might joke about it as couples, but that’s not a ticket to make it a punchline with other people he admires. That could have been SO awkward, and while everyone played it off in good fun, clearly boyfriend wasn’t comfortable with that. She is the AH bc she didn’t clear that with him first, it’s not “complicated”, and I can’t believe him expressing his feelings could be seen as “blowing it out of proportion”.

    About the twin story: Triplets are most often a set of identical twins and a fraternal triplet, so it is absolutely reasonable that one of them would not share all of the same traits. ADDITIONALLY, skin color is not a simple punnett square situation in the way something like eye color might be. Somewhere upwards of 300 different genetic expressions contribute to melanin production and skin color. Skin color can also change and develop until a child is around two. The range for phenotype variability when it comes to skin color, especially in biracial children, is very significant.

    • @lina9535
      @lina9535 Рік тому +106

      Thank you!! Finally someone who knows how things are!
      The punnet square isn't accurate to eye colors anymore either. I think there is like 20-ish different genes that can determine eye color.
      It was something like the BB, Bb, bb still works, but you can have a person with BB (brown) that has blue or green eyes, same with the other two. The percentage is low, but it happens.

    • @ettinakitten5047
      @ettinakitten5047 11 місяців тому +52

      @@lina9535 Yeah, for example both the OCA2 and HERC2 genes contain recessive alleles that can cause blue eyes. So if two blue eyed people with blue eyes due to the same gene have kids together, all the kids will be blue eyed, but if someone with HERC2 related blue eyes and someone with OCA2 related blue eyes get together, and neither of them carry an allele for blue eyes in the other gene, they will actually have 100% brown-eyed kids. However, most blue eyed people of European ancestry are all descended from the same person who had a HERC2 mutation, so that's why we thought it was a single gene trait for so long.

It was so frustrating and alienating as a child to have your familys existence constantly scrutinized and invalidated.

    • @Just1Nora
      @Just1Nora 10 місяців тому +43

      That is so incredibly rude and insulting! The fact that people don't understand that genetics goes farther back than the parents is crazy. There are 23 chromosomal pairs in the human genome; skin color, eye color, hair color and texture, height and build, etc are also determined by more than just one pair each. Plus, just because a certain trait is dominant it doesn't mean that the child can't receive a recessive trait. Less likely, sure, but not impossible. Like Chanse's hazel eyes.
      The more diverse that the parents' backgrounds are the more options are possible for the children. It could even be as far back or farther than a great grandparent of a different ethnicity or skin tone.
      It's so shitty that people thought that a) it was something your mother would do, b) thought it was something to think or discuss, and c) something they felt was appropriate in the slightest to say to her or you guys. Sometimes the stupid and hurtful things that come out of some people's mouths astound me.

      Yeah. I feel like that might be one of the more complicated stories on here. As long as it's not an unreliable narrator situation, there's a lot of possible factors.
      On the one hand, having kids is (usually) a conscious choice, and so you have to expect to lose a lot of your free time to them, especially when they're that young.
      On the other hand, I feel like people are over-valuing the importance of Christmas being celebrated on the exact right day. If Christmas was really the first time in 3 years that all his old friends were going to be online together, I don't see the harm in possibly celebrating Christmas on Christmas Eve or the 26th, as it's probably going to be another number of months or years before those friends are all together again. And speaking as someone who most strongly connects and opens up to people while playing games with them (digital, tabletop, or otherwise), playing together with people can be something a lot more than just trying to rack up ranks for a few hours.
      Overall, I think the whole issue could be avoided by just having an open and honest conversation a week or so ahead of time to figure out the best way for everyone to be happy.

To be honest, it was only cringe in the moment and then we'd forget it by the next day. But when my parents passed away, those moments were what my friends told me they thought were the coolest. Those moments were what my friends loved about my parents, and something I loved too.

      I've heard this story several times, and I think I finally put my finger on why his friends clearly seem like the asshole to me here.
      There is one thing that you could maaaybe reasonably criticize Alan for, which is being inconsiderate of the fact that other people might want the food. You could also argue he was considerate by bringing food for everyone and also waiting for an hour before getting more, but there's at least some merit to the idea that eating more than your "fair share" is inconsiderate.
      But once Alan instantly acknowledges that he messed up, apologizes profusely, and offers to go get food to replace the food he ate, he's clearly shown that he regrets his possible lack of consideration and is trying to be considerate by doing anything he can to rectify the situation. If you continue to berate him as a pig beyond that without any regard for his feelings, then you're saying the problem wasn't that he was inconsiderate of you; you just don't like his eating habits and his body, and you have decided to make your opinion his problem. At that point, I feel pretty comfortable saying those "friends" are the assholes, and they can fuck off.

On one hand, he probably should've asked if he could eat the remaining pieces but, on the other hand, the way they blew up in his face about it kind of broke my heart. He even acknowledged it himself at the beginning of the story saying that he's "the token fat guy". It just feels like the girl who blew up on him had an intrinsic sense of that and took that as an opportunity to (consciously or unconsciously) berate him and demean him. it just hurts to hear about something like that with little to no regard for any other factors that might have led him to do that.

    With Allen eating the sandwich too, one of two things happened when the hostess asked where the sandwich went: either they all watched him eat it and said nothing, then proceeded to angrily mock him for eating it when they could've stopped him earlier, or, everyone was unaware of the sandwich being eaten and when she asked where it went, they IMMEDIATELY assumed he ate the whole thing instead of assuming the rest of the guests ate it. Both of which are messed up because either they watched and waited for him to walk into a trap, or they have this predetermined image in their head of "of course it's Allen that ate the whole thing."

Then to turn around and have people you thought cared about you stomp on you while you're already feeling low, over food no less, is insane to me. You should NEVER be denied food, you should never be punished for eating or have food used as a punishment/weapon against you, and to feel like you are compelled to "make this up to them" by buying more food is insane after they neglected to eat it for it that long. the sandwich story made me tear up a bit i can’t lie, i can’t imagine making your friend feel that bad over eating a little bit more than his share at a party when the food had just been sitting around and he had the courtesy to wait a while before eating more. it’s okay to set the boundary that he can’t eat ALL of the leftovers but to be so cruel to him over a sandwich when he brought food himself (that he didn’t get any of) and waited a good amount of time before deciding to eat the food SO IT DIDNT GO TO WASTE! alan would be welcome at my gatherings any day, i love cooking for people and if i had a whole spread set up and no one else was eating it i’d be pretty bummed as a host.

      Agreed. I don't think Allan should have eaten as much as he did without communicating it as a rule of basic social etiquette. There's a chance the hosts were looking forward to having extra for the following day, only to find out the hard way that at least half of it had been eaten by a single person. However, clearly people noticed and also didn't say anything--people that were sniffing out blood and waiting for an opportunity to pounce. Even after his so-called friends berated him and dog piled, he did the right thing: he offered to pay them back for it after it was made clear he wasn't meant to eat as much as he did, they said no, and that was that.
      I hope he finds better friends who don't put him down. They all just sound like pretty privilege brats who were looking for a reason to jump on the big guy.

    ANYTIME family/friends get together and put out a spread, I INTENTIONALLY “head to the bathroom” or do something that puts me in a situation where I’m ALWAYS last in line. I’m TERRIFIED of taking more than my share and potentially being shamed. I feel bad for Alan, but I DO see the point (but not the execution) of the friend’s criticism.

    55:13 I would be chill with it, It’s clear besides this he’s a supportive, caring and helpful dad, the 1 day besides fathers day, which tbh is also often more about the kids and being with the children is shared with this big important family day so he rarely gets free time to be with friends or have a social life outside his kids. I think it’s understandable and reasonable for him to want to do this one thing, especially when most of his childhood would have been about siblings or other people and he would rarely get a chance to have partys as friends would also be with family. Forcing him to have his birthday a different day also implies that your wants are invalid and less important. we also don’t get a timeline for how long, so if he wants to play for an hour or two then he could suggest his wife have time to do something for herself after while he looks after and plays with the kids.

      3. Is this *really* a discussion we need to have right now in front of a crowd of friends?
      To me, this seems very much like the issue wasn't that he took a portion of the sandwich that she wanted, but that he was "too hungry" and doing too much to remind them of his fatness. I get the sense that this one sandwich was not the issue, it's something much older.

      For real he seemed to take every consideration other than announcing to the room at large that he was planning on finishing the sandwich, and they're treating him like No Face gobbling up all the employees at the bath house.

    Angela is so right about the pizza story. At that age you just dont even want your friends around your mom but that probably wouldve gone well with family.

    First story: I worked at a before/after school care program. There were two twins who were mixed: one twin had dark hair and brown eyes. The other had blonde hair and blue eyes. You could totally tell they were related regardless. Genetics are random af so…. Yes this girl was TOTALLY the AH

    • @stitchedwithcolor
      @stitchedwithcolor Рік тому +9

      Yup. A friend and their brothers have such similar facial structure but such different colorings (one is all dark brown eyes, dark brown hair, darker skin; one is a pale, blue eyed blonde, one is in the middle with auburn hair) that i used to joke that their parents sat down with a catalog, picked a good option, and just got one in every color. A college friend came from a family of white people and got all the dark genes so people mistake her for all sorts of ethnicities. Genetics are weird, and it's none of your business how your friend's kids came to be.

      My mom is a twin. When they were first born, my aunt had that thing some newborn babies get where their face is purple. By the time the babies came home it had started to fade, but her face still looked darker than my mother's. Their older brother told all the neighborhood kids that has mom had one white baby and one black baby, and they all wanted to come and see.

      This. My partner has much lighter skin than both of his parents and his older sister, who appears to be an even mix of their parents' skin tones. His sister has 4 sons, the first is even lighter than my bf, the twins are the same shade as their dad (who is much darker, he's of Caribbean descent), and the youngest is right in between mom and dad. Genetics are so cool but very unpredictable! That girl is the AH, she needs to learn more about genetics before she assumes the mom is a cheater. You'd think she'd know her friend better.

    On the Christmas COD story, I think some folks might not realize how difficult it is for a group to all play at the same time, especially as you reach the age of having families and wives. My main group has been whittled down to the three of us and one of them is now also engaged and frequently cannot make our usual times so us 2 try to adjust our schedules as they're more flexible than his and his kids. I agree with Shayne, hang Christmas morning, make breakfast, help clean up, then go and hang with the boys for a bit
